Last May, Ma Li walked into a small clay workshop by the Haihe River in Tianjin. She wanted a gift for her father, who used to repair trams. The maker, Uncle Zhang, was sitting at a low table. His hands were grey with clay.
“I only open this one store,” he said. “If I open more, my hands will hurry, and the figures will lose their soul.” He showed Ma Li a little tram driver. The driver’s shoes were not the same. One was newer. “Repairmen always wear one shoe out first,” he said.
Ma Li paid on her phone and asked if she could watch. Uncle Zhang pressed a thin line for the driver’s smile, then stopped and did it again. “A craft cannot go far if you are not devoted to it,” he said.
On the train home, Ma Li put the figure by the window. She thought of her father’s old gloves, also not a pair. Details, she felt, were a way of remembering people.
49.Why did Ma Li go to the clay workshop?
A. To learn welding skills.
B. To buy a gift for her father.
C. To open a second store.
D. To repair a tram.
50.Why does Uncle Zhang keep only one store?
A. He has no money for rent.
B. Clay is not sold in Tianjin.
C. He wants time to focus on his art.
D. His father told him to close.
51.What is special about the tram driver’s shoes?
A. They are made of metal.
B. They look exactly the same.

A. A craftsman must be devoted to the craft.
B. He plans to sell the store next week.
C. He never talks to customers.
D. Ma Li should learn to weld.

Chen Dong was 18 when he first stood in a rocket engine workshop. The heat from the welding fire made his eyes water. He did not like the major at first. Then a master let him watch a weld on a Long March engine. The line was as thin as a hair. Chen Dong wanted to make a line like that.
He practiced after work. Some nights he went home with burned gloves. In 2000, he took charge of engine welding for a new rocket. A foreign expert once said the weld was “good enough”. Chen Dong shook his head and did it again. “Good enough is not our word,” he told the young workers.
In 2018, he won a national award. Reporters asked if he would stop. He laughed. “The engine still has corners I have not seen.” He keeps a small notebook of every failed weld and the weather that day.
Now apprentices stand behind him. He does not let them hold the gun on day one. “First, watch the light,” he says. “The light will tell you if your hand is honest.”
53.How did Chen Dong first feel about welding?
A. He loved it at once.
B. He did not like the major at first.
C. He wanted to be a reporter.
D. He feared the notebook.
54.What did Chen Dong do when the expert said “good enough”?
A. He stopped working.
B. He sold the engine.
C. He did the weld again.
D. He went home to sleep.
55.What does the underlined word “apprentices” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Young learners of the craft.
B. Rocket passengers.
C. Newspaper readers.
D. Foreign visitors only.
56.What does Chen Dong want apprentices to watch first?
A. The clock on the wall.
B. The light of the weld.
C. The award in the hall.
D. The weather report.

People often talk about big skills. They talk less about small things: a button, a screw, a line on a drawing. Yet it is often these details that decide whether a product can go far.
A truck factory in Jinan now gives every part its own ID. If a quality problem is found, the company can see who made the part and when. The manager said the ID is not for catching people. It is for teaching. When a young worker sees his name beside a failed part, he learns faster than from a long speech.
The same idea lives in folk art. A clay figure with the wrong smile will still stand on a shelf, but it will not be remembered. Seeking perfection does not mean never making a mistake. It means you go back and fix the smile before the paint dries.
Some say machines can do the checking now. Machines are useful, but they do not feel shame when a ship leaks. Craftsmanship is a habit of the hands and of the heart. If more workers keep this habit, products made here will be trusted in more places, because the screws stay tight at sea.
57.What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A. Details often decide if a product can go far.
B. Big skills are never useful.
C. Screws are only used in art shops.
D. Drawings should have no lines.
58.Why does the truck factory give each part an ID?
A. To sell more lunch boxes.
B. To help workers learn from quality problems.
C. To stop all young workers.
D. To paint smiles on trucks.
59.What is the purpose of Paragraph 3?
A. To tell a joke about paint.
B. To introduce a new machine.
C. To show seeking perfection with a clay figure.
D. To close the truck factory.
60.What is the best title for the text?
A. How to Drive a Truck in Jinan
B. Why Folk Art Should Stop
C. Machines That Feel Shame
D. Details: The Heart of Craftsmanship

Ma Li paid on her phone and asked if she could watch. Uncle Zhang pressed a thin line for the driver’s smile, then stopped and did it again. “A craft cannot go far if you are not devoted to it,” he said.
