From their research, they discovered and tested 380 distinct ancient Chinese medical treatments that showed promise in the fight against malaria. One medical text from the fourth century suggested using the extract from sweet wormwood to treat a fever. Tu’s team tested a collection of dried wormwood leaves but found no effect. They then tried boiling fresh wormwood, and using the liquid obtained from this to treat malaria, but this did not work either. Their project got stuck. However, TuYouyou would not acknowledge defeat. She analysed the medical texts again, and by chance, she found one sentence suggesting a different way to treat the wormwood. She concluded that boiling the sweet wormwood青蒿 apparently destroyed its medical properties. Using a lower temperature to draw out the extract. She found a substance that worked. After failing more than 190 times, the team finally succeeded in 1971. Tu Youyou and her team members even insisted on testing the medicine on themselves to make sure that it was safe. Later, the medicine was tested on malaria patients, most of whom recovered. This medicine, which was called artemisinin, soon became a standard treatment for malaria. 1._________________治疗发烧 suggest doing 建议做某事 2._______________________________________一批干青蒿 3._________________________对……有影响 effect 影响fresh 新鲜的 4.__________________________从……中获取 5.___________陷入了困境 6.__________________承认失败 7._________________偶然地 conclude 总结 8.___________________________破坏了它的药用价值。 9.___________________较低的温度 draw out 提取 10.__失败 more than 超过;非常;不仅仅 succeed 成功finally 最终 11.____________坚持做某事 make sure 确保 safe 安全的 12.___________________治疗…的标准药物 recover 恢复 treat a fever a collection of dried wormwood leaves have an effect on obtain... from... be/get stuck acknowledge defeat by chance/accident destroy its medical properties a lower temperature fail insist on doing a standard treatment for 一本四世纪的医药文献推荐使用青蒿提取物来治疗发烧。 Tu Youyou & her team's experiment tested dried wormwood leaves tried boiling fresh wormwood Used a lower temperature to draw out the extract failed more than 190 times finally succeeded tested the medicine on themselves ______________团队努力 according to 依据 __________________一…… According to Tu Youyou, the discovery of artemisinin was a team effort.
