The first time I went to Germany with my boyfriend,I was very young and hadn't been to many places. As
soon as we arrived,I had this incredible revelation."I know all about this area. The food, the language.I know all
about the Schwarzwald, the Black Forest,"I said to his German family."How do you know about this?"they asked,
in disbelief.
That was the first time it dawned on me how much I knew about the rest of the world, and how prepared I
was for it,just from growing up in New York City-that I had been everywhere before I'd ever actually gone
anywhere.
I grew up in the Chelsea Projects,288 10th Avenue at 26th Street.A lot of kids there were first generation
Americans with immigrant parents who were still speaking Yiddish or Chinese or Portuguese,or just name a
language, and they were speaking it.You ate every imaginable food from the rest of the world there. You were
exposed to all different kinds of traditions
It wasn't just that. The whole city was a classroom. All over town, you learned stuff you didn't even know
you were learning. You didn't have to be rich to learn it,either. My mom was a teacher-a great Head Start
teacher-and she made sure I partook of everything New York had to offer people who didn't have any money,
because she knew it was the greatest education in the world.
We went to all the museums, which were free back then. We'd ride the bus to Lincoln Center, before it was
Lincoln Center, and watch dancers dancing there.Or we'd take the train to Coney Island. Those trips are among
my fondest memories.
New York City played a big part in making me who I am.It's where I learned that I could pursue whatever I
loved,but that I couldn't be a slacker ()The city is everything you've heard it is.It's crazy,it's horrible,
it's magnificent,it's beautiful.It's a real live wire,hard to leave.
24.What contributed to the author's knowledge of Germany?
A.Her childhood experience
B.Her boyfriend's descriptions.
C.Her past travel adventures.
D.Her previous school education.
25.What can we learn about the author's neighborhood?
A.It was a tourist hotspot for traditions
B.It was famous for its many restaurants.
C.Kids there were born outside of America.
D.Parents there spoke their mother tongues.
26.What did New York provide?
A.Diverse learning opportunities.
B.Quality education programs.
C.Financial support for parents.
D.Welfare benefits for the poor.
27.From which book is the text most likely taken?
A.Into Unknown Skies.
B.Never Can Say Goodbye.
C.Mom is Always by My Side.
D.Falling for the Hometown Girl.

Have you ever escaped taking on a role or opportunity because you didn't feel confident enough?
Perhaps the voice in your head asked:"Why me?I am not yet ready, not capable enough,or don't have enough
experience.”
If you can relate, you're among the majority of women with whom I've worked.I recently asked more
than 120 women,from areas including the U.S.,UK,Australia,Georgia,Italy,India,Jamaica,and Bermuda:If
you've ever avoided risks, what factors and reasons contributed to this?More than 70%reported that
self-doubt,or not having enough belief in themselves, their capabilities,or their skills, was a driving factor.
As one well-known executive told me:"Every day I doubt myself.I doubt that I am good enough to be
where I am.”
This shouldn't come as a surprise. We know self-doubt is a pervasive and often paralyzing concern,
particularly for women.A study by psychologists at Cornell and Washington State highlighted higher levels of
self-doubt in women.Research has also shown that women will apply for a job only if they meet all of the
qualifications, while men will apply when they fulfill only 60%Another recent study identified a considerable
gender gap when it comes to self-promotion,with women providing less favorable assessments of their own
past performance and potential future ability.Ultimately, men take more chances on themselves, and that pays
dividends in the long run.
While this pattern of self-doubt emerged again and again in studies,my interactions, and my client work,
I also noticed another commonality:These women's self-doubts weren't sabotaging their success.The vast
majority of successful women leaders I've interviewed and coached have built exciting and satisfying careers
even while facing self-doubt.
What these women also had in common is courage in the absence of confidence-a trait that is often
weaponized against women and used to explain why they fail to achieve career goals. My work has found that
successful women take decisive action to move forward even while grappling with fears and doubts and
questioning their own"readiness".
"As women,we often feel like we have to be 100%ready in order to move forward. But,if you are 50%
or 75%there,jump.Just do it,"said Megan Costello, former executive director of the Boston Mayor's Office
for Women's Advancement.
28.What is the real factor for women to escape taking on a role?
A.Higher risks.B.Different beliefs.
C.Inner feelings.
D.Related experiences.
29.What is typical of women in terms of self-promotion?
A.They tend to be less optimistic.
B.They prefer to be well qualified.
C.They try to be favorably assessed.
D.They hope to be clearly identified.
30.Which can best replace the underlined wordsabotaging"in Paragraph 5?
A.Promoting.
B.Weakening.
C.Achieving.
D.Balancing.
31.How do women with self-doubts succeed?
A.By keeping themselves weaponized.
B.By ignoring fears and doubts
C.By stopping questioning their readiness.
D.By being bold and,decisive.

The age of Information is mushrooming, perhaps even bulging. If you tried to download all the data
available today, you'd need more than 180 million years to do so.But you are wrong to assume that all this
information would stimulate a boost of innovation to match the output of data.Indeed, the last time we found
ourselves in a period of significant innovation, was more than 120 years ago,in the age of Insight
Innovations, both big and small, often occur as a moment of insight, which typically involves quiet signals
deep in the brain, just under the surface of awareness.Anything that helps us notice quiet signals, such as taking
breaks between meetings, simplifying learning approaches or avoiding digital distractions, can increase the
number of insights. However,it's becoming more challenging to find those signals with the ballooning use of
technology, stuffing every moment with an endless supply of content
Besides,we also want to increase the quality of them-to be able to sort through big new ideas and find
the ones that have real value..Launched in2015,the Eureka Scale(尤里卡量表)allows us to assess the strength
of our insight experiences on a five-point scale, which is marked by intense emotions, motivation, memory
advantage, aftershocks, and following ideas. The Scale combines these five variables into a single value and
allows us to define the importance of a new idea. The level-5 insight, involving the richest emotion, motivation,
and lasting impact, holds the greatest significance.Contributive to measuring and improving individual and
organizational performance, the Scale can be used to measure the impact of different kinds of work environments
and learning approaches on participants'growth.
For organizations to benefit from another age of insight,it's not enough to access more data or increase the
number of insights we generate. It's indeed essential to make space for the biggest ideas to emerge from all the
information.Using the shared language of the Eureka Scale will enable better decision-making toward practical
and competitive outcomes. And if we're to enter a new age of insight,we must design our environments to allow
for the best insight possible to surface.
32.What does the underlined word "bulging"in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Stabilizing.
B.Exploding.
C.Shifting.
D.Collapsing.
33.According to the passage, how can the amount of insights be increased?
A.By making due pauses in your work schedule
B.By consuming boundless social media content.
C.By avoiding distracting quiet signals in your brain.
D.By adopting additional training and coaching approaches.
34.What can be inferred from the passage?
试卷第7页共11页
A.The Eureka Scale controls the influence of our insights
B.Possessing minimal emotional responses is a level-5 insight.
C.Both the quantity and quality of insights are essential to innovation.
D.A breakthrough has been made in innovation due to a wealth of information.
35.What is the author's attitude towards the current environment for innovations?
A.Uncertain.
B.Optimistic
C.Tolerant.
D.Dissatisfied.

Tom,a hard-working junior high school student, was buried in thick review books and exercise papers all
day long.Faced with endless daily tests and heavy learning tasks,he spared no effort to make progress step by
step.Every day,he devoted himself fully to his studies, hoping to lay a solid foundation for his future studies. For
him, every moment of study was precious, and a peaceful, undisturbed learning environment was essential to
efficient revision.
However,an unexpected trouble came to him.A flock of birds built their nests in the tall old tree just
outside his classroom window. From early morning till sunset, the birds kept singing loudly and non-stop.The
sharp and continuous chirping cut through the quiet classroom again and again, easily breaking his train of
thought.Whenever he tried to memorize key knowledge or focus on difficult exercises, the noisy sounds would
distract him at once.Gradually,he grew restless and frustrated.
As the monthly exam approached, his stress built up day by day.One tired evening, after wasting plenty of
time and failing to finish his homework smoothly because of the noise,he could no longer hold back his
annoyance. He took up his pen and wrote a heartfelt letter to the principal ()earnestly requesting the school
to clear away the bird nests so that students could study in peace.
He mailed the letter with mixed feelings, not sure whether his request would be approved. In the following
days,he waited anxiously, still troubled by the bird songs and unable to settle down.He tried hard to ignore the
noise, yet his anger never faded away.He even felt a little disappointed, worrying that no one would notice his
trouble.

The Viral Vendor
Li Junyong, a 48-year-old fried chicken vendor from Jingdezhen, has become an internet sensation, gaining over 300, 000 Douyin followers in less than a week. His stall, located outside a junior high school, sells ordinary six-yuan chicken cutlets, but it’s his comedic salesmanship that draws crowds. With the timing of a seasoned performer, Li jokes, “The chicken is free, but the plastic bag costs six yuan,” earning him the nickname “chicken cutlet curator.” Netizens say the snack offers not just food, but “60 yuan’s worth of laughter.”Consistency and Warmth
Rain or shine, Li works late into the night, serving students, office workers, and pensioners. His warmth and consistency have built a loyal customer base. He greets patrons as “old friends,” remembers their orders, and even offers schoolchildren a one-yuan discount after 4: 30 p. m. Despite exhaustion and sleepless nights due to his sudden fame, Li remains dedicated: “I can’t let those waiting in line down.”Official Recognition and Authenticity
Li’s authenticity has not only won public admiration but also official endorsement. On September 29th, Jingdezhen’s culture bureau appointed him “Cultural and Tourism Ambassador,” reflecting the government’s trend of co-opting grassroots influencers for city promotion. His unpolished charm resonates in an era of curated online content, embodying everyday resilience. While internet fame is often fleeting, Li remains focused on his work, proving that joy— and success— can come from a humble chicken cutlet served with a smile.
A Jingdezhen street vendor’s viral success stems from his stand-up comedy sales style. His unscripted humor and genuine warmth contrast with polished influencers, resonating with modern consumers. This phenomenon reflects a cultural shift where authenticity trumps perfection, demonstrating how ordinary individuals can redefine public engagement through relatable content.

The first time I went to Germany with my boyfriend, I was very young and hadn’t been to many places. As soon as we arrived, I had this incredible revelation.“I know all about this area. The food, the language. I know all about the Schwarzwald, the Black Forest,”I said to his German family.“How do you know about this?” they asked, in disbelief.
That was the first time it dawned on me how much I knew about the rest of the world, and how prepared I was for it, just from growing up in New York City — that I had been everywhere before I’d ever actually gone anywhere.
I grew up in the Chelsea Projects, 288 10th Avenue at 26th Street. A lot of kids there were first generation Americans with immigrant parents who were still speaking Yiddish or Chinese or Portuguese, or just name a language, and they were speaking it. You ate every imaginable food from the rest of the world there. You were exposed to all different kinds of traditions.
It wasn’t just that. The whole city was a classroom. All over town, you learned stuff you didn’t even know you were learning. You didn’t have to be rich to learn it, either. My mom was a teacher — a great Head Start teacher — and she made sure I partook of everything New York had to offer people who didn’t have any money, because she knew it was the greatest education in the world.
We went to all the museums, which were free back then. We’d ride the bus to Lincoln Center, before it was Lincoln Center, and watch dancers dancing there. Or we’d take the train to Coney Island. Those trips are among my fondest memories.
New York City played a big part in making me who I am. It’s where I learned that I could pursue whatever I loved, but that I couldn’t be a slacker (偷懒的人). The city is everything you’ve heard it is. It’s crazy, it’s horrible, it’s magnificent, it’s beautiful. It’s a real live wire, hard to leave.
24.What contributed to the author’s knowledge of Germany?
A.Her childhood experience. B.Her boyfriend’s descriptions.
C.Her past travel adventures. D.Her previous school education.
25.What can we learn about the author’s neighborhood?
A.It was a tourist hotspot for traditions.
C
Have you ever escaped taking on a role or opportunity because you didn’t feel confident enough? Perhaps the voice in your head asked: “Why me? I am not yet ready, not capable enough, or don’t have enough experience.”
If you can relate, you’re among the majority of women with whom I’ve worked. I recently asked more than 120 women, from areas including the U.S., UK, Australia, Georgia, Italy, India, Jamaica, and Bermuda: If you’ve ever avoided risks, what factors and reasons contributed to this? More than 70% reported that selfdoubt, or not having enough belief in themselves, their capabilities, or their skills, was a driving factor.
As one wellknown executive told me: “Every day I doubt myself. I doubt that I am good enough to be where I am.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. We know selfdoubt is a pervasive and often paralyzing concern, particularly for women. A study by psychologists at Cornell and Washington State highlighted higher levels of selfdoubt in women. Research has also shown that women will apply for a job only if they meet all of the qualifications, while men will apply when they fulfill only 60%. Another recent study identified a considerable gender gap when it comes to selfpromotion, with women providing less favorable assessments of their own past performance and potential future ability. Ultimately, men take more chances on themselves, and that pays dividends in the long run.
While this pattern of selfdoubt emerged again and again in studies, my interactions, and my client work, I also noticed another commonality: These women’s selfdoubts weren’t sabotaging their success. The vast majority of successful women leaders I’ve interviewed and coached have built exciting and satisfying careers even while facing selfdoubt.
What these women also had in common is courage in the absence of confidence—a trait that is often weaponized against women and used to explain why they fail to achieve career goals. My work has found that successful women take decisive action to move forward even while grappling with fears and doubts and questioning their own “readiness”.
“As women, we often feel like we have to be 100% ready in order to move forward. But, if you are 50% or 75% there, jump. Just do it,” said Megan Costello, former executive director of the Boston Mayor’s Office for Women’s Advancement.
28.What is the real factor for women to escape taking on a role?
A.Higher risks. B.Different beliefs. C.Inner feelings. D.Related experiences.
29.What is typical of women in terms of selfpromotion?
A.They tend to be less optimistic. B.They prefer to be well qualified.
C.They try to be favorably assessed. D.They hope to be clearly identified.
30.Which can best replace the underlined word “sabotaging” in Paragraph 5?
A.Promoting. B.Weakening. C.Achieving. D.Balancing.
31.How do women with selfdoubts succeed?
A.By keeping themselves weaponized. B.By ignoring fears and doubts.
C.By stopping questioning their readiness. D.By being bold and, decisive.

The Age of Information is mushrooming, perhaps even bulging. If you tried to download all the data available today, you’d need more than 180 million years to do so. But you are wrong to assume that all this information would stimulate a boost of innovation to match the output of data. Indeed, the last time we found ourselves in a period of significant innovation, was more than 120 years ago, in the Age of Insight.
Innovations, both big and small, often occur as a moment of insight, which typically involves quiet signals deep in the brain, just under the surface of awareness. Anything that helps us notice quiet signals, such as taking breaks between meetings, simplifying learning approaches or avoiding digital distractions, can increase the number of insights. However, it’s becoming more challenging to find those signals with the ballooning use of technology, stuffing every moment with an endless supply of content.
Besides, we also want to increase the quality of them — to be able to sort through big new ideas and find the ones that have real value. Launched in 2015, the Eureka Scale (尤里卡量表) allows us to assess the strength of our insight experiences on a five-point scale, which is marked by intense emotions, motivation, memory advantage, aftershocks, and following ideas. The Scale combines these five variables into a single value and allows us to define the importance of a new idea. The level-5 insight, involving the richest emotion, motivation, and lasting impact, holds the greatest significance. Contributive to measuring and improving individual and organizational performance, the Scale can be used to measure the impact of different kinds of work environments and learning approaches on participants’ growth.
For organizations to benefit from another age of insight, it’s not enough to access more data or increase the number of insights we generate. It’s indeed essential to make space for the biggest ideas to emerge from all the information. Using the shared language of the Eureka Scale will enable better decision-making toward practical and competitive outcomes. And if we’re to enter a new age of insight, we must design our environments to allow for the best insight possible to surface.
32.What does the underlined word “bulging” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Stabilizing. B.Exploding. C.Shifting. D.Collapsing.
33.According to the passage, how can the amount of insights be increased?
A.By making due pauses in your work schedule.
B.By consuming boundless social media content.
C.By avoiding distracting quiet signals in your brain.
D.By adopting additional training and coaching approaches.
34.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The Eureka Scale controls the influence of our insights.
B.Possessing minimal emotional responses is a level-5 insight.
C.Both the quantity and quality of insights are essential to innovation.
D.A breakthrough has been made in innovation due to a wealth of information.
35.What is the author’s attitude towards the current environment for innovations?
A.Uncertain. B.Optimistic. C.Tolerant. D.Dissatisfied.

Keep Skin Cancer at Bay
“You have skin cancer.” No one wants to hear such scary words. And unfortunately, the number of those who hear them just keeps rising. 36 But the good news is that it’s also one of the easiest to prevent. By adopting a few healthy habits and making smart choices, people can reduce their risk of developing skin cancer.
One of the most important ways is to limit your exposure to UV rays from the sun. UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so it’s best to stay indoors or in the shade during these hours. 37 Sunglasses that block UV rays are also a must. These measures can shelter you from harmful radiation and prevent sunburn, which is a major risk factor for skin cancer.
Using sunscreen is another important way to protect your skin. 38 It should protect against both kinds of UV rays that cause damage to your skin. Apply it to all exposed skin, including your face, neck, ears and hands, even on cloudy days. Put it on every two hours or more often if you’re swimming or sweating.
39 It is vital to examine your skin once a month for spots, moles (痣) or growths. Be on the lookout for changes in size, shape or colour. Watch for moles that have one side that is different from the other. Look at the size, too. 40
Healthy skin is beautiful. Protecting it is one of the best things you can do.
A.We should protect our skin from the strong sun.
B.A healthy diet can help improve your skin condition.
C.If you have to be in the sun, wear protective clothing.
D.Choose a type with a sun protection factor of at least 30.
E.Regular skin checks are also key in the prevention of skin cancer.
F.The WHO estimates global cancer rates will increase by 77 percent by 2050.
G.If a mole is bigger than a pencil eraser or its appearance is changing, consult a skin doctor immediately.

Tom, a hard-working junior high school student, was buried in thick review books and exercise papers all day long. Faced with endless daily tests and heavy learning tasks, he spared no effort to make progress step by step. Every day, he devoted himself fully to his studies, hoping to lay a solid foundation for his future studies. For him, every moment of study was precious, and a peaceful, undisturbed learning environment was essential to efficient revision.
However, an unexpected trouble came to him. A flock of birds built their nests in the tall old tree just outside his classroom window. From early morning till sunset, the birds kept singing loudly and non-stop. The sharp and continuous chirping cut through the quiet classroom again and again, easily breaking his train of thought. Whenever he tried to memorize key knowledge or focus on difficult exercises, the noisy sounds would distract him at once. Gradually, he grew restless and frustrated.
As the monthly exam approached, his stress built up day by day. One tired evening, after wasting plenty of time and failing to finish his homework smoothly because of the noise, he could no longer hold back his annoyance. He took up his pen and wrote a heartfelt letter to the principal (校长), earnestly requesting the school to clear away the bird nests so that students could study in peace.
He mailed the letter with mixed feelings, not sure whether his request would be approved. In the following days, he waited anxiously, still troubled by the bird songs and unable to settle down. He tried hard to ignore the noise, yet his anger never faded away. He even felt a little disappointed, worrying that no one would notice his trouble.
