四、阅读理解
①Giraffes are the tallest animals in the world. Male (雄性的) giraffes can grow to a height of about 5 metres. If you live in a house with two floors, an adult giraffe can look into your bedroom window on the second floor. Standing on long legs, giraffes have the longest neck of all animals. The neck of a giraffe can be 2. 4 metres long.
②Giraffes love to eat leaves. With their great height, giraffes easily eat leaves from the tops of trees. Giraffes always get enough food because no other animals can get the same food that giraffes like. Most of the time, you will find giraffes eating. But they don’t drink much water. They get most of the water from the leaves they eat. And giraffes don’t sleep much. They just take short naps while standing up.
③Giraffes are beautiful animals. They have a beautiful coat that has large brown spots (斑点) on a white background (底色). There are many different kinds of giraffes all over Africa. Each kind of giraffe’s spots are a little different in shape. A giraffe’s coat helps it to blend in (融入) with the environment in which they live and it is hard for tigers or lions to find them.
④This is all I know about giraffes. Would you please share another kind of animals?

Life in the African Savanna
The savanna is a vast grassland in Africa. It is home to many amazing wild animals. Here are four of them.
Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth. They can reach up to 5.5 metres tall! Their long necks help them eat leaves from the tops of trees. They have beautiful spotted coats that help them hide in the light and shadow of the trees. A giraffe’s heart is very big — it weighs about 11 kilograms!
Cheetahs are the fastest land animals. They can run up to 110 kilometres per hour. Their bodies are built for speed — they have long legs, a flexible spine, and a long tail for balance. Cheetahs usually hunt during the day. Their black tear marks under their eyes help reduce the sun’s glare.
Zebras are known for their black and white stripes. No two zebras have the same stripes! Scientists believe the stripes may help confuse predators or keep insects away. Zebras are very social animals and live in large groups called herds. They communicate with each other through sounds and movements.
Lions are the kings of the savanna. They live in groups called prides. A pride usually has about 15 lions. The female lions do most of the hunting. They work together to catch large animals like zebras and wildebeests. Male lions protect the pride and its territory.
The savanna is full of wonders, but many of these animals are facing problems. Climate change, habitat loss, and
