7. C. 【详解】根据上文“Take your time. The joy on their faces, that's something money can't buy. And as for the bike, we'll find a way. Maybe not now, but soon." I listened, my initial disappointment fading. I nodded, looking forward to the future, knowing that the Christmas spirit was alive and well in our family. 单元过关 一、阅读理解 A 【体裁】说明文 【文章大意】食物专家提示禽肉中的细菌极易扩散到厨房其他地方或食物上,因此,在准备食材和 烹饪时要十分注意,必须将禽肉彻底加热到一定的温度至完全熟透,并且应将未吃完的部分及时冷 藏。 1. B 【命题意图】考查推理判断。 【答案分析】根据第二段中的“The donotwash raw poultry advice from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)is relatively new and perhaps hasn't caught on because it goes against the common belief that washing makes things clean”可知,人们普遍坚信冲洗能让东西变得干净,由此推断这种方法在人们心目中似乎更可靠,因此人们不接受美国农业部不洗生禽肉的建议,故选B项。 2. D 【命题意图】考查细节理解。 【答案分析】在第四段中,作者主要介绍了一个实验,该实验对比了冲洗与不冲洗生鸡肉时细菌的传播情况。根据该段中的“Among those who washed their raw chicken, about a quarter ended up spreading the bacteria to their lettuce. But even some of those who did not rinse the chicken got germs on the lettuce.”可知,该实验的结论为,不管洗与不洗,鸡肉上的细菌都能被传播,故选D项。 3. D 【命题意图】考查细节理解。 【答案分析】根据最后一段中的“To insure a bird is thoroughly cooked, they say to use a thermometer to check and make sure that the deepest and thickest parts of it have reached 165 degrees.” Live with roommates?"" Have friends and family around you?" I experienced this...zero waste like me"及下文内容可知,作者仍然坚持自己的"零浪费"生活方式。 Paying bills late. F 【详解】上文“Spaying” refers to the act of spending in order to save. With many items on sale, spayers purchase a lot of discounted goods, believing they can save in the long term.(“绝育式消费”指的是为了省钱而花费的行为。 符合语境,该项中的“cheap items”和前文中的“the act of spending in order to save”相呼应。 11. 12. D 【详解】上文“Always sleep on a potential purchase to give yourself-time to think it over.(对于想要购买的物品,先不要着急下单,给自己一些时间仔细考虑一下)”以及下文“Experts recommended adopting a 24-hour waiting period, or even going a step further with a 48-hour rule before buying something, even if it’s on sale.(专家建议在购买东西之前采用24小时的等待期,甚至更进一步,采用48小时的规则,即使它正在打折)”说明给自己时间考虑潜在的购买行为。 13. And at first it is, says Abby Jaramillo, who with another teacher started Urban Sprouts, a school garden program at four low-income schools. The program aims to help students develop science skills, environmental awareness, and healthy lifestyles. Jaramillo’s students live in neighborhoods where fresh food and green space are not easy to find and fast food restaurants outnumber grocery stores. “The kids literally come to school with bags of snacks and large bottles of soft drinks,” she says. “They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, and insects are awful.” Though some are initially scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt, most are eager to try something new. Urban Sprouts’ classes, at two middle schools and two high schools, include hands-on experiments such as soil testing, flower-and-seed dissection, tastings of fresh or dried produce, and work in the garden. Several times a year, students cook the vegetables they grow, and they occasionally make salads for their entire schools. Program evaluations show that kids eat more vegetables as a result of the classes. “We have students who say they went home and talked to their parents and now they’re eating differently,” Jaramillo says. She adds that the program’s benefits go beyond nutrition. Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo’s special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. “They get outside,” she says, “and they feel successful.” 1.What do we know about Abby Jaramillo? Basically, it means eating only as much food as your body needs. You should feel satisfied at the end of a meal, but not too full. 6 But it doesn't mean saying goodbye to the foods you love. Take your time. It's important to slow down and think about food as something nutritious rather than just something to eat in between meetings. 7 It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly and stop eating before you feel full. Eat with others whenever possible. Eating alone, “especially in front of the TV or computer, often leads to mindless overeating. And be careful about the foods you keep at hand. It's more challenging to eat in moderation if you have unhealthy snacks at the ready, like cookies. 8 Control emotional (情绪的) eating. 9 Many of us also turn to food to deal with unpleasant emotions such as sadness, loneliness, or boredom. But by learning healthier ways to manage emotions, you can regain control over the food you eat and your feelings. 10 A healthy breakfast can start your metabolism (新陈代谢), while eating small, healthy meals keeps your energy up all day.Avoid eating late at night. But it seemed that my family didn’t have enough money to buy me the bike that I’d wanted for Christmas. After supper was over on Christmas Eve, I sat at the table, feeling sorry for myself. It was cold outside. Soon Dad came back. “Come on, Eric,” he said. “Put on warm clothes. It’s cold out tonight.” I was really upset then. Not only was I not getting the bike for Christmas, but now Dad was dragging me out in the cold. But anyway, I got up and followed him. Outside, in front of the house, our old truck was ready. The cold was already biting at me. Dad went into the woodshed (柴房) and came out with an armload of wood. “Dad,” I asked, “what are you doing?” He said, “I passed by Ms. Black’s house today. She is a single mother of three kids. Her eldest son, 8-year-old Robert, was out digging around in the woodpile trying to find a few chips. He was just wearing an old thin shirt, trembling with cold. They’re out of wood, Eric.” That was all he said and then he turned and went back into the room for a big ham. He handed them to me and told me to put them in the truck and wait. When he returned, he was carrying a bag of something in his hand. “What’s in the bag?” I asked. “Coats. They’re out of warm clothes. I got the children a little candy too. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little candy.” We drove two miles to Ms. Black’s house. We stopped at the gate and unloaded the wood, then we took the other things to the door. The “do-not-wash raw poultry advice from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is relatively new and perhaps hasn't caught on because it goes against the common belief that washing makes things clean,” said Chapman.Benjamin Chapman, a study author and food safety expert at North Carolina State University, said the instinct to wash raw poultry goes back at least decades when people relied more on visual clues to spot problems with poultry. Meanwhile, washing hands and surfaces is also important. But food preparation is a complicated act, and germs from poultry can be spread even if it's not washed, especially when birds are removed from packaging. The USDAfunded study stresses that point.Researchers sprayed raw chicken with a harmless strain of E. coli (大肠杆菌) and watched volunteer cooks in test kitchens.Among those who washed their raw chicken, about a quarter ended up spreading the bacteria to their lettuce. But even some of those who did not rinse the chicken got germs on the lettuce. And there are other opportunities for germs to survive on turkey: melting and cooking. To ensure a bird is thoroughly cooked, they say to use a thermometer to check and make sure that the deepest and thickest parts of it have reached 165 degrees.Even after the meat is cooked, you aren't out of the danger zone.To keep turkey and other leftovers safe, experts say they should be refrigerated after two hours. 1. Why don't people take the USDA's advice? A. The advice is relatively new. B. Cleaning seems more trustworthy. C. Cooks clean the turkey before cooking it. D. Heat can kill most germs and no one eats raw meat. 2. What can be concluded from Paragraph 4? A. Food packages carry germs. B. Hands and surfaces are easy to get E. coli. C. Multiple methods should be applied to food to get rid of germs. D. Germs from the raw chicken can be spread whether it is washed or not. 3. Which way may help to cook the turkey safely? A. Rinsing the turkey before it is heated. B. Keeping the turkey away from lettuce and the refrigerator. C. Washing hands and packages before taking out the turkey. D. Using a thermometer to check the temperature of the turkey. 4. From which section of a magazine is the text probably taken? A. Culture. B. Education. C. Science. D. Medicine. B】 Live with roommates? Have friends and family around you? Chances are that if you're looking to live a more sustainable lifestyle, not everyone around you will be ready to jump on that bandwagon. I experienced this when I started switching to a zero waste lifestyle five years ago, as I was living with my parents, and I continue to experience this with my husband, as he is not completely zero waste like me. I've learned a few things along the way though, which I hope you'll find encouraging if you're doing your best to figure out how you can make the change in a not-always- supportive household. Zero waste was a radical lifestyle movement a few years back. I remember showing my parents a video of Bea Johnson, sharing how cool I thought it would be to buy groceries with jars, and have so little trash! A few days later, I came back with my first jars of zero waste groceries , and my dad commented on how silly it was for me to carry jars everywhere. It came off as a bit discouraging. Yet as the months of reducing waste continued, I did what I could that was within my own reach. I had my own bedroom , so I worked on removing things I didn't need. Since I had my own toiletries(洗漱用品), I was able to start personalizing my routine to be more sustainable. I also offered to cook every so often, so I portioned out a bit of the cupboard for my own zero waste groceries. Perhaps your household won't entirely make the switch, but you may have some control over your own personal spaces to make the changes you desire. As you make your lifestyle changes, you may find yourself wanting to speak up for yourself if others comment on what you're doing, which can turn itself into a whole household debate. If you have individuals who are not on board, your words probably won't do much and can often leave you feeling more discouraged. 5. What do the underlined words “ jump on that bandwagon” mean in the first paragraph? A.Share an apartment with you. B.Join you in what you're doing. C.Transform your way of living. D.Help you to make the decision. 6.What was the attitude of the author's father toward buying groceries with jars? A.He disapproved of it. B.He was sympathetic to it. C.He was tolerant of it. D.He didn't care about it. 7.What can we infer about the author? A.She is quite good at cooking. B.She respects others’ privacy. C.She enjoys being a housewife. D.She is a determined person. 8.What is the text mainly about? A.How to get on well with other family members. B.How to have one's own personal space at home. C.How to live a zero-waste lifestyle in a household. D.How to control the budget when buying groceries. What is “Spaying”? Impulse buying. Paying bills late. Emotional spending.  9    But other practices are more harmful — like “spaying.” “Spaying” refers to the act of spending in order to save. With many items on sale, spayers purchase a lot of discounted goods, believing they can save in the long term.  10     In fact, they can trick you into spending more, leading to credit card debt. To avoid falling into the trap of spaying, experts share practical tips on how to make wiser purchasing decisions.  11     Resist the desire to spay by avoiding sale reminders however possible. It is advised to unsubscribe from newsletters that send you the latest sales and deals from your favorite brands. Turn off notifications in deal apps — or delete them altogether. Set aside a waiting period Always sleep on a potential purchase to give yourself time to think it over.  12    . Experts recommended adopting a 24-hour waiting period, or even going a step further with a 48-hour rule before buying something, even if it’s on sale. Make a spending budget Assess your spending habits to create awareness and come up with a plan to cut back little by little. It’s a good idea to take a look at just how much you’ve spent over the year so far on excess purchases, which can be shocking and give you an urge to make changes. If you’re buying something to make yourself feel better after a bad day or as a reward for a job well done, the fleeting feelings will pass. 13     A. Avoid sale pushes. B. Stick to your shopping list. C. It’s clear why these financial habits are bad. D. This allows that excitement of the deal to fade. E. If you do, even another ten dollars will be spent. F. However, cheap items are not necessarily good deals. G. So do find other ways to cope with sadness or to celebrate wins. Being unemployed for half a year led Mark to develop the bad habit of smoking, which has caused serious health problems for him. The air smelled of lemons and baked bread and coffee, coming from Jenney’s Bakery. He was almost there. Shark still couldn’t believe his luck. Here he was, about to start as an actual baker’s assistant, doing what he loved. It was all thanks to his Aunt Rose. She knew Jenney and had arranged everything. It was the perfect experience for his future career. Jenney’s Bakery, he was sure, would one day be known as the place where he got his start. Ah, here he was—the bakery. A faded wooden sign over the door read “Jenney’s Bakery”. Shark straightened his shoulders and entered. Jenney was sitting at the counter, looking old and wise. Shark greeted her and stuck out his hand. Jenney looked at it for a second before turning around and waving him inside. “I’m ready to learn everything,” Shark said. “Great. Let’s start with the cash register,” Jenney said, “because that’s what you’ll be doing.” She showed him how to use the cash register. It wasn’t hard. The pastry trays were all marked by price, and there weren’t that many choices anyway. “That’s it?” Shark said, his heart sinking. “But when do we bake?” “Bake? I order wholesale now. No more baking. I’m too old.” Then Jenney silently held up her hands. Shark took in her knotted (骨节突出的), swollen fingers, and he understood. A wave of disappointment struck him, and sadness overwhelmed him so suddenly that he couldn’t think of a word to say. He sighed, and Jenney sighed, too. “I used to bake it all. Bread and cakes. And no one did it better than me. But that was when these things worked,” said Jenney holding up her hands once more and glancing across the shelves filled with empty bottles labeled with names of the various ingredients (配料) she once used. Suddenly she came alive, waving her arthritic (关节炎的) hands. “People used to line up around the corner. Everyone wanted my baked bread.” Then a thought occurred to Shark that he could ask Jenney to teach him. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Jenney finally said, “Let’s buy the ingredients first.” ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
