National parks are more than scenic places on a map: they protect natural landscapes, preserve historic memories and provide visitors with opportunities for outdoor exploration. The following sites show how nature, history and recreation come together in different forms.
NATIONAL MONUMENT, Grand Portage
It brings to life the past of the North American fur trade from the perspective of the Anishinaabe (阿尼什纳比族), who partnered closely with the North West Company. Walk along wilderness trails that once served as vital trade routes for early travelers and fur traders. Discover the ancient camps and a reconstructed trading depot (仓库) in its historic location. See how it shaped co-management with the government today.
NATIONAL RIVER AREA, Mississippi
In the middle of a bustling urban setting, this 72-mile river park offers quiet stretches for fishing, boating, birdwatching, bicycling, camping and hiking. And there are plenty of visitor centers and trails that highlight the fascinating human history of the Mississippi River. This is a great place to start your adventure of this iconic river.
NATIONAL RIVERWAY, Saint Croix
Grab your paddle and love for adventure to the St. Croix, offering over 200 miles of clean water that glides and rushes through a forested landscape. Paddle, boat, fish, and camp among this wild and scenic beauty. Hiking and historic towns also offer rewarding alternatives for your outdoor exploration.

In the early 1920s, Ernest Hemingway was a little-known journalist. Then, in 1925, he published In Our Time, a book of short stories, and later The Sun Also Rises, the most celebrated book about the “Lost Generation” in post-war Europe. Hemingway became famous in the same way one of his characters described going bankrupt (破产) — “gradually and then suddenly”. Eight other novels and novellas followed, as did Pulitzer and Nobel prizes.
Nobody had written like him before. A short clean sentence is a fine thing. But if the writer has his story straight and his words true, he can go long and hard — no need for big words and adverbs and commas (逗号). He also knew what to leave out, as he explained, “If a writer of prose knows enough of what he is writing about, he may omit things that he knows and the reader, if the writer is writing truly enough, will have a feeling of those things as strongly as if the writer had stated them.”
Beyond his distinct style, his heroes attracted famous admirers. He defined courage as “grace under pressure” — martially, for the soldier in A Farewell to Arms; physically, for the fisherman in The Old Man and the Sea; or sportingly, for the transformed hunter in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber. In 1955 John F. Kennedy asked for Hemingway’s permission to use this definition in Profiles in Courage, which won the Pulitzer prize for biography.
Perhaps most importantly, Hemingway’s life became a legend. He endured broken marriages, was wounded in the first world war, reported in the second, ran with the bulls in Spain and survived a plane crash in Africa. Yet, beneath toughness, he suffered from depression. That has provided more than enough material for biographies and documentaries, including a six-hour series by Ken Burns in 2021.
While adaptations of his works are rare, and some themes may appear outdated to a contemporary audience, Hemingway’s revolutionary works, powerful characters, and stormy life ensure his permanent place as a towering figure in literature.
4. What is mainly introduced about Hemingway in paragraph 1?
A. His career shift. B. His rise to fame.
C. His war service. D. His plan for writing.
5. What sets Hemingway apart from other writers in writing style?
A. Imaginative and vivid wording. B. Simple yet detailed descriptions.
C. Clean and genuine expressions. D. Complicated yet logical sentences.
6. Why does the author mention John F. Kennedy in paragraph 3?
A. To honour Kennedy’s courage. B. To compare two famous figures.
C. To highlight Pulitzer’s significance. D. To show Hemingway’s great influence.
7. What does the author imply about Hemingway’s works?
A. They age into silence. B. They are hard to adapt.
C. They mirror his easy life. D. They stand the test of time.
B 5. C 6. D 7. D

根据第二段“A short clean sentence is a fine thing. But if the writer has his story straight and his words true, he can go long and hard — no need for big words and adverbs and commas (逗号). (一个简短干净的句子是件好事。但如果作者的故事直截了当、用词真挚,他就可以写出厚重悠长的文字——不需要华丽的辞藻、副词和逗号。)”可知,海明威的写作风格以简洁真实的表达为特点。

Nearly 30% of U. S. children have a diagnosed allergy (过敏), suffering from symptoms such as hives, sneezing, or even life-threatening anaphylaxis. Large studies have confirmed that introducing potential food allergens within the first year of life significantly minimizes the danger of developing allergies later.
A decade ago, doctors recommended delaying common food allergens until after the first few years. This view changed in 2015 when the LEAP study provided strong evidence that introducing peanuts to infants (婴儿) around four months old can lower peanut allergy risk by up to 80%. Follow-up studies on eggs, cow’s milk, and multiple common allergens showed similar benefits. Today, experts strongly recommend early introduction. Priya Katari, a pediatric allergist, suggests introducing all common allergens — egg, milk, soy, wheat, peanut, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, and sesame — at four to six months of age, when the child can sit upright and swallow safely without choking.
This recommendation applies to most children, including those with a family history of allergies. However, there are two exceptions: children with severe eczema should be tested for allergies before food introduction, and children with a known egg allergy should be tested especially before trying peanut butter. Otherwise, serious reactions after first exposure are rare in infants under one year, though possible. Parents can start with a tiny amount, such as a quarter-teaspoon of thinned peanut butter, monitor for ten minutes, and then offer a full serving of two teaspoons.
Once introduced, the allergen must remain in the child’s diet regularly. Peanut currently has specific guidelines: two teaspoons three times a week. Experts agree that just a taste may not build tolerance; taking them at a regular basis is essential. Parents need not worry about exact amounts but should ensure a varied diet including fruits, vegetables, and protein. As Martha Hartz from Mayo Clinic advises, “Whenever you introduce solid food, go ahead and introduce whatever your family eats.”
8. What can be inferred about the LEAP study?
A. It suggested delaying all allergens. B. It focused mainly on eggs and milk.
C. It overturned previous medical advice. D. It was the first study on food allergies.
9. Which group needs allergy tests before food introduction?
A. Children with family allergy history. B. Children already exposed to peanuts.
C. Children who can sit upright and swallow. D. Children with severe eczema or egg allergy.
10. What do experts suggest about maintaining tolerance?
A. Regular exposure is vital. B. Exact amounts matter most.
C. A single taste is enough for life. D. Peanut butter should be avoided.
11. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. Infants should avoid peanuts until age three.
B. Early introduction reduces the risks of allergies.
C. Delaying allergens until after the first year is advised.
D. Allergy tests are required for children before solid foods.
C 9. D 10. A 11. B

根据第二段“A decade ago, doctors recommended delaying common food allergens until after the first few years. This view changed in 2015 when the LEAP study provided strong evidence that introducing peanuts to infants (幼儿) around four months old can lower peanut allergy risk by up to 80%.(十年前,医生建议推迟常见食物过敏原的引入,等到孩子出生头几年过后再食用。但这一观点在2015年发生了改变,LEAP研究提供了有力证据:在婴儿约四个月大时开始接触花生,可使花生过敏风险降低高达80%)”可知,LEAP研究推翻了以往的医学建议。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“However, there are two exceptions: children with severe eczema should be tested for allergies before food introduction, and children with a known egg allergy should be tested especially before trying peanut butter.(不过,有两个例外情况:患有严重湿疹的儿童在引入食物前应进行过敏测试,而已知对鸡蛋过敏的儿童在尝试花生酱之前尤其需要先做过敏测试)”可知,严重湿疹或鸡蛋过敏的儿童在引入食物前需要进行过敏测试。
根据最后一段“Once introduced, the allergen must remain in the child’s diet regularly. Peanut currently has specific guidelines: two teaspoons three times a week. Experts agree that just a taste may not build tolerance; taking them at a regular basis is essential.(一旦引入,过敏原必须持续定期出现在孩子的饮食中。目前对花生有具体建议:每周三次,每次两茶匙。专家一致认为,仅靠一次尝试可能无法建立耐受性,坚持规律摄入)”可知,专家们建议定期暴露维持耐受性至关重要。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Nearly 30% of U. S. children have a diagnosed allergy (过敏), suffering from symptoms such as hives, sneezing, or even life-threatening anaphylaxis. Large studies have confirmed that introducing potential food allergens within the first year of life significantly minimizes the danger of developing allergies later.(近30%的美国儿童被诊断出患有过敏,出现荨麻疹、打喷嚏甚至危及生命的过敏性休克等症状。大量研究证实,在出生后的第一年内接触潜在的食物过敏原,能显著降低日后患过敏的风险)”结合文章主要说明了研究证实婴儿一岁内尽早接触各类致敏食物可大幅降低过敏风险,强调持续定期摄入致敏食物才能建立耐受可知,文章主旨是早期引入可降低过敏风险。
D
Many people want to spend less time on their phones. While some suggest extreme ideas like printing out your Instagram feed, a new device called the Brick is becoming a popular solution. The small grey cube, about the size of a headphone case, claims to reduce screen time by three hours a day. To use it, you choose the apps you want to block and touch your phone to the device. To unblock your apps, you must physically tap the phone against the cube again. Reviewers declare that the Brick changed their lives.
The Brick is part of a broader trend known as anti-tech tech. There are now many tools designed to remove digital temptations. For example, on an app called Forest, the longer you stay off your phone, the more virtual trees grow; eventually, the firm plants a real tree in your honor. Some people are even switching back to “dumb phones”— old-fashioned mobiles without touch screens — which are now seen as a cool and wise choice.
The reason behind this trend is digital overload. Many young adults feel they must always be reachable and always be connected. According to a survey, nearly 40% of young people sleep with their phones next to them. This constant connection can lead to brainrot — a term used to describe the mental exhaustion caused by spending too much time online. People are also increasingly worried about their data privacy and harmful content found on social media.
However, there is a paradox at the heart of this movement. While many young people declare they want an offline life, they often share this message on TikTok. Most digital detoxes (戒断) fail because apps are designed to draw us back.
Thomas Driver, co-founder of the Brick, says the secret to anti-tech tech is to place distractions out of reach. By physically separating the unblocking tool from the phone, temptation is sidelined.
12. What is the Brick according to paragraph 1?
A. An app that grows virtual trees.
B. A headphone case that is easy to carry.
C. A device that helps reduce phone usage.
D. A smartphone that increases screen time.
13. Why does the author mention Forest and dumb phones?
A. To introduce new phone apps. B. To warn people of digital risks.
C. To explain the trend of anti-tech tech. D. To show they are better than the Brick.
14. What does the underlined word “paradox” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. A clear solution. B. A self-contradictory situation.
C. A popular agreement. D. A technological breakthrough.
15. Which of the following is the most suitable title for the passage?
A. Digital Overload: A Problem to Solve
B. The Brick: Blocking the Apps Forever
C. Dumb Phones: Best Ways to Disconnect
D. Anti-Tech Tech: Fighting Phone Addiction
C 13. C 14. B 15. D
根据文章第一段中的“While some suggest extreme ideas like printing out your Instagram feed, a new device called the Brick is becoming a popular solution. The small grey cube, about the size of a headphone case, claims to reduce screen time by three hours a day. (尽管有人提出诸如打印出你的Instagram动态等极端想法,但一种名为Brick的新设备正逐渐成为热门解决方案。这个小巧的灰色立方体,大小约相当于耳机盒,声称每天可减少三小时的屏幕使用时间。)”可知,Brick 是一种帮助减少手机使用时间的设备。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段中的“For example, on an app called Forest, the longer you stay off your phone, the more virtual trees grow; eventually, the firm plants a real tree in your honor. Some people are even switching back to “dumb phones”—old-fashioned mobiles without touch screens—which are now seen as a cool and wise choice. (例如,在一款名为“Forest”的应用程序中,你离手机越久,虚拟的树木就会长得越多;最终,公司会为你种植一棵真正的树。有些人甚至又开始使用“傻瓜手机”——即没有触摸屏的传统手机,如今这些手机被视为一种时尚而明智的选择。)”可知,作者提到 Forest应用程序和“傻瓜手机”是为了举例说明“反科技科技”这一趋势。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章第四段中的“While many young people declare they want an offline life, they often share this message on TikTok.

Recently, I have noticed a worrying trend that many students rely heavily on AI tools to cope with homework. Rather than wrestling with questions, they get ready-made answers with a few taps.
Blind reliance on AI does lasting harm to our academic growth. It deprives us of chances to consolidate knowledge. As a result, we may fail to figure out weak points and lose problem-solving ability.
Accordingly, we should treat AI as a useful learning tool, not a shortcut. Only after independent thinking should we consult it for detailed analysis. Teachers and parents should also guide us to form good learning habits.
Recently, an alarming phenomenon has swept across our campus: many students use AI to get instant answers, skipping the vital process of trial, reflection and reasoning.
Over-reliance on AI for direct answers poses profound threats to our academic growth. The struggle of wrestling with tough questions is where real learning takes root. Blindly adopting AI’s outputs deprives us of identifying knowledge gaps, weakens problem-solving, and fosters a lazy mindset.
However, AI is a powerful backup when used properly. We should first work through tasks independently, then employ AI to clarify concepts or verify thinking. Educators and families should also guide us to establish rational digital learning norms.

Stricken by poliomyelitis (小儿麻痹症) at a young age, I suffered a disabled leg and ugly teeth. These flaws left me extremely shy and insecure. I kept to myself and rarely interacted with others. Though stuck in self-doubt, I was dearly loved by my father, who always comforted and encouraged me patiently.
One warm spring, my father brought home several young trees and asked each child to plant one. As luck would have it, I got the weakest of them all, a thin, dying little tree with yellowish leaves. “Whoever grows the strongest tree — or whoever tries their best — will get a wonderful gift,” my father promised with a gentle smile.
I also hoped to win the gift, yet low self-esteem weighed heavily on me. Looking at my pitiful little tree, I couldn’t help seeing myself in it — weak, flawed, and destined to be left behind. The thought only deepened my despair. “Even if I tried, this tree would never stand a chance.” I muttered bitterly. Convinced I would end up failing, I refused to make any effort. I planted the tree carelessly and watered it just twice. Later, I stayed away from the corner on purpose. My brothers tended their trees devotedly to compete for the prize, while I pretended not to care.
Weeks slipped past before I knew it. Out of a strange urge, I plucked up courage to check on my tree. Much to my surprise, the ignored little tree grew far stronger than my brothers’. My father said gently, “See? This little tree was the weakest of all, yet it has become the strongest. Never judge a life by how it starts.” Then he handed me the promised gift.
For the first time, a ray of hope welled up inside me. One quiet moonlit night, unable to fall asleep, I resolved to go outside and look after my tree.
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Stepping to the yard corner, I saw someone familiar tending my tree.

From that night on, my life was completely changed.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Stepping to the yard corner, I saw someone familiar tending my tree. It was my father, his tall figure bathed in the soft moonlight. He knelt down gently, carefully removing weeds and loosening the soil around the tree with great patience. At that moment, everything clicked — no wonder the weak, dying little tree I had abandoned had thrived so unexpectedly. While I was trapped in self-pity and consumed by my flaws, my father had been silently guarding both the tree and my fragile confidence. Tears blurred my vision, mixed with deep regret and warm gratitude for his silent love.
From that night on, my life was completely changed. I stopped hiding from my imperfections or believing I was destined to fail. Instead of yielding to a flawed start, I chose to embrace life with courage and optimism. I began to take good care of the tree every day and actively reached out to communicate and bond with others. As the little tree grew steadily taller and firmer, I also gained solid confidence and inner strength. Looking back, I came to realize a disadvantaged beginning couldn’t define future growth, and above all, love is the best nourishment of life.

C
