A Dancing Raisins Experiment
Do you want to bring science magic into your home? Here is a simple and exciting experiment that will amaze everyone in your family!
Materials:
· a clear glass · a spoon
· several raisins (葡萄干) · fresh soda (苏打) water
Tip: Any water with bubbles (气泡) can be used for the experiment.
Steps:
1. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with soda water.
2. Drop 4-5 raisins into the glass with the spoon. Watch what happens at first.
3. Wait for one minute. You will see something surprising!
4. Soon, the raisins will begin to move up and down in the glass, just like they are dancing.
Why does this happen? The soda water has CO₂. When you drop the raisins into the water, bubbles appear. These bubbles stick to the rough (粗糙的) surface of the raisins. If the surface is smooth, the bubbles can’t lift the object. When enough bubbles collect, they lift the raisins to the surface. At the surface, the bubbles pop (爆裂), and the raisins sink again. This up-and-down movement continues for several minutes.
This experiment shows how gas can change the way objects behave in soda water. It’s a wonderful way to learn about density (密度) and gas in a fun and visual way.
Give it a try and watch science come to life right before your eyes!
59.If you don’t have soda water, which can be used instead?
A.Boiled water. B.Cola. C.Orange juice. D.Salt water.

【答案】59.B 60.A 61.D 62.B
【详解】59.“Materials”部分提到“Tip: Any water with bubbles can be used for the experiment.”,说明任何有气泡的水都可以替代苏打水,而选项中只有可乐(Cola)含有气泡。
60.“Why does this happen?”部分明确说明:“When enough bubbles collect, they lift the raisins to the surface.”,因此是气泡使葡萄干上升。
61.“Why does this happen?”部分提到:“These bubbles stick to the rough surface of the raisins. If the surface is smooth, the bubbles can’t lift the object.”
C
Li Hua used to think Beijing Opera was boring. Like many teenagers, he preferred pop music and often changed the TV channel when Beijing Opera was on. He thought it was only for old people.
Everything changed when his school organized a Beijing Opera club. Every Friday afternoon, a professional actor came to teach the students. They learned about the four main roles: Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou. They also practiced basic movements like walking on stage and waving long sleeves.
“At first, the singing style was strange to me. The rhythm was hard to follow,” Li Hua said. “But after a few weeks, I began to understand the stories behind the operas. Some are about historical heroes, and some are about beautiful poems.”
Now Li Hua and his classmates enjoy Beijing Opera very much. They often discuss the stories during breaks. “I used to think traditional art was old-fashioned, but now I know it is part of our culture. We should protect it,” Li Hua said. “If we don’t learn about it, this art may disappear. It is our duty to pass it on.”

Music education plays a key role in teenagers' growth and has become an important part of school education. It is not only about teaching students to sing songs or play musical instruments, but also a way to develop their comprehensive abilities.

Many people spend their vacations doing nothing on a beach, but Kirsty Ross wanted to do something different. “I spent three weeks working in the sun, digging to find pieces of old cups and plates,” she says. “I worked really hard all day and I slept in a tent. My friends thought I was crazy, but I had an amazing time. It was my best vacation ever!”
Kirsty was working for a volunteer program in Tunisia in North Africa. Groups of twenty-five young volunteers work together on archaeological sites to find important information about the past. The volunteers have to be very careful, because it’s important not to damage the things they find. Many of them work at Tunisia’s biggest archaeological site in Carthage, but some of them work in other important sites in the country.
Kirsty explains why she chose this vacation. “I’ve always been interested in history, and Tunisia has a lot of very important archaeological sites. People were living in Carthage 3,000 years ago. I love being in places that are so old. It was exciting to find pots and other things people used every day.”
It was harder for Kirsty than for some of the others. “I come from Alaska which is a cold place,” she says. “It was hard for me to work under the hot North African sun. But it was a wonderful chance to meet people from other countries and to learn about the past. It changed my life. Now I’m hoping to learn more about it in college.”
70.What does the underlined word “damage” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Move. B.Break. C.Lose. D.Touch.
71.Which of the following is NOT true about Kirsty?
A.She thought the archaeological work was hard but interesting.
B.She spent 3 weeks working for the volunteer program.
C.She was excited about finding things people used every day.
D.She enjoyed working under the hot sun in Tunisia.
72.What’s the main purpose of the text?
A.To tell us the reason why Kirsty likes archaeology.
B.To let us know the importance of archaeology.
C.To give an example of an archaeological vacation.
D.To ask more people to take part in their volunteer work.
根据第二段“The volunteers have to be very careful, because it’s important not to damage the things they find.”
71.根据第四段Kirsty的话“I come from Alaska which is a cold place...It was hard for me to work under the hot North African sun.”

My dad only had an eighth grade education. In his life, the only thing he knew was to make money and pay for family bills.
In a summer, a neighbouring farmer invited me to work on his farm. That day, I watered flowers and picked apples from the trees. It was tiring work, but I got ten dollars. I decided to use the money to buy something for myself.
Arriving home, I told my dad how much money I got and my plan of spending money. He said, “I’m glad you made money on your own. A job is a big step to growing up. It’s important for yourself, and for our family.”
Suddenly, I understood the meaning behind his words: I just cared about myself.
My growth and our whole family had been depending on the hard work of my dad! Dad never said no to this! I had worked for only one day, but how many years my father had worked!

60.What causes the raisins to rise to the surface of the soda water?
A.The bubbles. B.The sugar in the soda.
C.The weight of the raisins. D.The heat from the soda water.
61.If you use a few smooth, small glass balls instead of raisins in Step 2, what will most likely happen?

My dad only had an eighth grade education. In his life, the only thing he knew was to make money and pay for family bills.
In a summer, a neighbouring farmer invited me to work on his farm. That day, I watered flowers and picked apples from the trees. It was tiring work, but I got ten dollars. I decided to use the money to buy something for myself.
