(2026·江苏天一中学上学期期中)Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world. Rising temperatures might boost crop production in cold regions but negatively impact production in warmer areas. Wheat and rice—which benefit from more CO2 in the atmosphere—could see growing output, while corn and sorghum (高粱) could see a decline with warmer temperatures.
Farmers can adjust their practices to a warmer climate in four key ways:
·Farmers can change WHAT they plant. This could be an entirely different type of crop: corn instead of wheat. Or a different variety of a specific crop.
·Farmers can change WHERE crops are planted. If temperatures rise in fall, crop production can shift north or southwards towards more suitable temperatures.
·Farmers can change HOW crops are managed. Giving crops the right amount of water, nutrition, and protection from insects and disease can help reduce some impacts of climate change.
·Farmers can change WHEN they plant. Farmers can plant earlier or later in the year, depending on when spring arrives. Adjusting planting dates requires no additional cost or work.
A recent study by experts modeled three adaptation methods—changing WHAT, changing WHEN and changing both of them. The chart below shows their impact on the output of corn, rice, sorghum, soybean (大豆) and wheat.
These three adaptation methods can already go some way to relieve climate pressures in some countries. But, of course, we don't only care about crop production at the global level! If farmers in particular regions—especially those that are most food-insecure—cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem. So there is more we can do in the future.

(2026·江苏天一中学上学期期中)Cold winters can be extra annoying for people who wear eyeglasses. Whenever they come indoors, their glasses practically always fog up, just like when warm air from a car's heater hits a cold windscreen.
When you enter a house from the extremely cold outdoors, the warm air around you cools. This causes some of the water vapor (水蒸气) in the air to turn into small drops of water. If you have glasses, nearby tiny water drops will attach to the glasses and fog them up, explains Alexander Henn, who developed a new coating made from tree waste.
Henn dealt with the problem by using a renewable waste product—lignin (木质素), a combination made from smaller building blocks. Woody plants contain lots of lignin, which keeps them hard and strong. “Here in Finland, we have a lot of trees. Everyone knows that you can build with the wood, or you can make paper or cloth from it, but most of those processes don't use a tree's lignin, which ends up as a waste product,” Henn says.
The researchers were working with lignin nanoparticles (纳米粒子) before starting thinking about fog. To make them, the scientists put mini-lignin pieces in a specially made liquid. When they poured that liquid into water, the lignin gathered together, forming tiny groups in the water. Each one was about 100 nanometers in size. Those tiny bits were hydrophilic, which means they love water. Coating glass with water-loving lignin bits would change how its surface interacts with water. The nanoparticles wanted to hold onto the water, which would make them spread out across the glass surface. If that water spreads out enough, the small water drops will form a continuous thin layer. Although the glasses are now wet, they might not be foggy.
There was just one problem. “You could see the particles,” Henn says. So putting lignin bits on glass would make it look a bit dirty. This encouraged Henn to make the lignin particles 50 nanometers across so they would go unnoticed. “Lignin can do many different things, including being used as an incredible renewable resource. Besides, it can take in light in interesting ways,” he adds.

(2026·东莞中学高二质检)For generations, the name Milton Hershey has been a well-known word closely connected with fine chocolate products throughout the country and around the world. He was born in 1857 on a farm near Derry Church, a small Pennsylvania community. Frequent family moves interrupted his schooling and left him with limited education. He only completed the fourth grade.
Following a four-year apprenticeship (学徒期) with a candy maker, he established his first candy-making business in Philadelphia. That initial effort failed as did his next two attempts in Chicago and New York. However, he never gave up his hope to build up his own business. Returning to Lancaster in 1883, Hershey established a caramel company, which quickly became an outstanding success. It was this business that established him as a candy maker and set the stage for future achievements.
Hershey became fascinated with German chocolate-making machinery exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. He bought the equipment for his plant and soon began producing various chocolate creations. Then in 1900, he sold the caramel company in order to focus entirely on his chocolate business.
Three years later, Hershey built a new factory. There he could obtain the large supplies of fresh milk needed to perfect and produce fine milk chocolate. Through trial and error, he created his own formula for milk chocolate. In 1903 he began construction on what was to become the world's largest chocolate plant. After its completion, his milk chocolate quickly became the first nationally marketed product of its kind.
With Milton Hershey's success came a great sense of social responsibility. Hershey created a completely new community around his factory. He built a model town for his employees that included comfortable homes, an inexpensive public transportation system, a quality public school system and broad cultural opportunities. The town of Hershey continues to be a special place for its residents and a popular attraction for millions of visitors each year. Indeed, Milton Hershey's achievements do speak for themselves.

Ⅱ.七选五
(2026·南京高二月考)People set goals for their lives. Perhaps you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or read 30 books a year. But then you get busy and your daily life takes up all of your time. Before you know it, weeks, then months have gone by and you are no closer to your goal. 1.________________
Make a specific plan
Adding details to your plan helps you act better. Be sure to add when and where. If your goal is to work out five days each week, a plan like “I'll work out on weekdays” would be too vague. But a detailed plan like “I'll exercise at the gym on weekdays during my lunch break” would fit the bill. 2.________________ For example, if you plan to work out during lunch, you'll be sure to refuse a lunch invitation from others.
Consider punishment
This may sound difficult, but ensuring you'll face some punishment if you don't achieve your goal can work wonders. One easy way to do this is to tell a few people about your goal. You'll feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven't followed through. Feeling ashamed is a kind of spiritual punishment. You can also make a bet with a friend that you'll stick to your goal. 3.________________
Make it fun
Most of us concentrate on the final result when it comes to achieving our goals. 4.________________ Are you enjoying the process of pursuing your goal? If it's not fun to exercise or study, you're unlikely to keep at it. But if you get pleasure from your works or study sessions, you'll persist longer. It's the pursuit of your goals—not the reaching of them—that makes up the weeks, days and hours of our lives. So make sure to have fun along the way!
Get a little help from your friends
Spending time around high achievers can boost your own performance. If your aim is to run a marathon or write a book, you'd be wise to start hanging around friends who've made it to the finish line and can show you how it's done. You'll learn a lot just by spending time together with these friends. 5.________________ Giving someone else tips on how to achieve boosts your self-confidence and motivates you to achieve success.
A.Who could you turn to for help?
B.It can also help you avoid breaking your routine.
C.If you want to stick to it, try the following strategies.
D.Friends are well aware of your strengths and weaknesses.
E.There is evidence that cash punishment motivates success.
F.Advising friends with shared goals can improve your success rate, too.
G.But focusing too much on it can make us ignore an even more important thing.
