Ⅴ. 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,根据短文内容完成各题。
A
A night train is a shared sleeping space, so small choices can affect many people. Before boarding, place water, a charger and anything needed at night in a small bag. This avoids opening a large suitcase after the lights are lowered. Keep money and important papers close to you rather than inside an outer pocket.
Most sleeper cars lower their main lights at a set time. After that, use a reading light if your bed has one, and keep phone calls short. A passenger who must make a longer call can move to the space between cars, provided that the area is open and safe. Earphones are useful, but their sound should not reach the next bed.
The lower bed belongs to the passenger who booked it. During the day, that passenger may invite others to sit there, but nobody should treat it as a public seat without asking. Bed changes also require agreement. Tell the train attendant so that the passenger list remains correct.
Set an alarm that can wake you without disturbing the whole car. Pack your blanket and belongings before arrival, especially when leaving early in the morning. Respecting another person’s light, sound and space makes the journey calmer for everyone.
根据短文内容,判断下列各题的正(T)误(F)。
36. Keeping night-time items in a small bag can reduce noise after lights are lowered.
37. Important papers should be placed in an outside suitcase pocket.
38. A passenger should ask before sitting on someone else’s lower bed.
39. Passengers may exchange beds without telling the train attendant.
40. The passage suggests preparing early when getting off the train before morning.
B
When the Sky Turns Yellow
Before the wind arrives: Check the latest weather message and close windows firmly. Bring light objects in from a balcony, since flowerpots or empty boxes may be blown down. If you need to go out, wear glasses and a mask, and choose a coat that closes at the neck.
While outdoors: Walk away from old walls, large signs and weak tree branches. Do not run across a road simply to escape the dust; drivers may see less clearly than usual. If possible, enter a strong building and wait. Cover your nose and mouth, but make sure you can still breathe comfortably.
While driving: Slow down, turn on the lights and leave more space between cars. Keep the windows closed and use the air system inside the car. If the yellow dust becomes so thick that road markings disappear, move to a safe parking area instead of stopping in a traffic lane.
After the air clears: Dust may remain on steps and floors, making them slippery. Wipe it away with a wet cloth rather than sweeping it into the air again. Wash your face and hands, and drink some water if your throat feels dry. People with breathing problems should follow medical advice when discomfort continues.
A sandstorm can change quickly. The safest action depends on where you are, but the same idea applies: reduce exposure to dust and avoid objects or traffic that strong wind makes dangerous.
41. Why should light objects be moved from a balcony?
A. They could be blown down.
B. They may block the window light.
C. They will become too warm.
D. They might attract birds.
42. What should a person do instead of running across a dusty road?
A. Stand beside an old wall.
B. Wait under a weak tree.
C. Follow the road markings.
D. Enter a strong building if possible.
43. When should a driver move to a safe parking area?
A. When the car windows are closed.
B. When another car turns on its lights.
C. When road markings can no longer be seen.
D. When a passenger drinks water.
44. Why is a wet cloth recommended after the air clears?
A. It keeps dust from rising again.
B. It makes the floor dry faster.
C. It protects flowerpots from wind.
D. It removes marks from a road.
45. Which idea connects all four parts of the guide?
A. Strong wind is dangerous only to drivers.
B. Actions should limit dust and wind-related risks.
C. Every sandstorm requires the same indoor action.
D. Weather messages are useful only before travel.
C
Why Do Cut Apples Turn Brown?
Cut an apple and leave it on a plate. Before long, the pale surface begins to turn brown. The change does not mean that the apple has suddenly become rotten. It starts when damaged cells meet oxygen in the air.
Inside an apple are natural substances and an enzyme, a material that helps certain changes happen faster. They are kept in different parts of an uncut cell. A knife breaks the cell walls, allowing the enzyme, the substances and oxygen to meet. Together, they produce brown-colored materials on the cut surface.
Temperature affects the speed. A warm slice usually browns faster than a cold one. More exposed surface also matters, so thin pieces may change color sooner than a whole half. Apple kinds also brown at different rates.
Several methods can slow the process. Lemon juice is slightly acidic and makes the enzyme work less effectively. Salt water can help briefly, although too much changes the taste. Water limits contact with oxygen, while a closed box reduces fresh air.
In a kitchen test, four equal slices were treated differently. After twenty minutes, the untreated slice was darkest. The lemon-covered slice stayed lightest; those in water and a closed box had some brown areas. A fair test uses one apple and equal pieces, since size or apple type may affect results.
Browning mainly changes appearance. A freshly cut brown slice is often safe, but an apple with a bad smell, wet areas or mold should not be eaten. Color is only one clue to food condition.
46. What begins the browning process after an apple is cut?
A. Salt enters the apple cells.
B. The apple loses all its water.
C. Brown material moves in from the knife.
D. Damaged cells come into contact with oxygen.
47. Why may thin apple pieces brown sooner than a whole half?
A. More of their surface is open to the air.
B. They contain a different kind of enzyme.
C. Their cells have no natural substances.
D. They are always kept at a higher temperature.
48. What does the word “acidic” in Paragraph 4 help explain?
A. Why lemon juice adds water to apples.
B. Why lemon juice slows the enzyme’s action.
C. Why salt water makes apples sweeter.
D. Why a closed box lowers the temperature.
49. Why should equal-sized pieces from the same apple be used in a test?
A. To make every piece taste like lemon.
B. To keep oxygen outside the kitchen.
C. To make the comparison more dependable.
D. To ensure that all pieces become equally dark.
50. What is the writer’s main purpose?
A. To explain apple browning, ways to slow it and how to judge the fruit.
B. To prove that every brown apple is unsafe to eat.
C. To compare the prices of several kinds of apples.
D. To show that salt water always works better than lemon juice.
