I still remember that when I first started to learn the language, I didn't really have a problem with the pronunciation. I just had a hard time memorizing words, but I made a great effort, and soon I was scoring ten out of ten in all of the test. By the time I went to university, I could do some writing without much difficulty, and I actually enjoyed learning the grammar rules. Then, as part of my university course, I had to go and live in france for a year. As soon as I arrived, I realized I didn't know how to order the type of coffee I liked and trying to find somewhere to live or stay with something difficult to deal with, I called people about information in the paper, but I had to keep putting the phone down because I couldn't understand a word they were saying. They all spoke so quickly. I could see then that there's no point in just knowing words. If you can't hold a conversation with a native speaker, the ability to speak freely is what helps you get a job, hold a conversation, or just buy the things you need. Pleased be here today. Sammie Vance was just named one of PEOPLE’s Girls Changing the World, and she is only 12 years old. The seventh grader from Indiana is collecting bottle caps to make them into buddy benches (伙伴长椅) for her school and neighborhood parks. But these benches are more than just for sitting; they’re to help kids find friends.
Sammie learned about buddy benches at a camp she attended one summer. At the camp there were benches set up for when a child felt lonely; they would sit down, which means that they are in need of a friend.
She said, “I’m like, ‘This would be really cool to have at my school.’” Then she sprang into action by meeting with her headmaster to present her idea.
Sammie used a cartoon picture that she created to show how a simple bench could help classmates understand when one of their own needed a friend. The adults were surely impressed by her idea but were also impressed with how she planned on making the benches.
Sammie and her mom Heidi found a company called Green Tree Plastics that could turn recycled (回收利用的) plastic caps into benches. These recycled benches cost much less than normal park benches and are good for the environment according to Sammie’s website.
Then, she got to work and held a community-wide event, asking members to donate (捐赠) their old bottle caps. The event alone collected 1,600 pounds (725 kilograms) of caps and with that, she created three benches for her school.
Sammie continued her efforts and enlarged her project to create more benches. Now officially called Sammie’s Buddy Bench Project, the project has a Facebook page for others to follow her journey and make bottle cap donations.
Today, Sammie has set up 200 recycled benches in schools, neighborhoods and even local community centers. She has no plans of stopping. “For me, it’s seeing people who need a friend — whether they’re 8 or 80 — because I’ve been lonely myself. I don’t want others to feel that way,” she told PEOPLE.
24. What caused Sammie to start the project?
A. Her wish to win a national prize. B. Her personal experience at a camp.
C. The encouragement from her headmaster. D. The donation from an environmental company.

A. Serve as a piece of artistic decoration. B. Show a need for companionship.
C. Provide a place for outdoor reading. D. Push for using recycled things.

A. Its role applies to all age groups. B. It is mainly suitable for school children.
C. Its design requires further improvement. D. It is most needed in her local community.
27. Which of the following can best describe Sammie?
A. Caring and creative. B. Self-centered and disorganized.

In May 2026, US President Donald Trump paid an official state visit to China from May 13th to 15th. People around the world care deeply about the talks between China and the US, as these two major economies play a vital role in global development. Their decisions can influence nearly all countries on Earth.
The US looks rich and strong on the outside, developing fast in new technology. However, it currently faces several domestic challenges. The country spends heavily and owes massive debts, while strict tax rules have led to rising costs for common people, who now have to spend more on daily necessities. Meanwhile, China continues to excel in manufacturing and exporting goods. More and more Chinese products are popular abroad due to their quality and affordability. However, most Chinese people currently choose to save money rather than spend freely, feeling cautious about future economic uncertainties.
Friendly talks can bring positive changes for both sides. If the negotiations go well, more jobs and business opportunities will emerge. If not, China is prepared to explore new ways to find more global markets. The visit also highlighted the strong “magnetic effect” (磁吸效应/吸引力) of the Chinese market. Accompanying Trump was a delegation (代表团) of top business leaders, including tech giants like Elon Musk and Jensen Huang. Their presence reflects a reality: despite political tensions, top-tier American enterprises are eager to tap into China’s massive market and maintain their supply chains.
As the world watches closely, both nations have shown a willingness to face changes and difficulties with calm and confidence. The visit serves as a reminder that in an interconnected world, cooperation remains the most rational (理性的) choice for mutual benefit (互利共赢).
28. What is the primary reason people worldwide pay close attention to the China-US talks?
A. The US is facing severe domestic economic challenges.
B. China has become the world’s largest manufacturing country.
C. The two countries’ decisions have a significant global impact.
D. Top American business leaders are accompanying the US President.
29. According to the text, what is the current spending attitude of most Chinese people?
A. They are spending freely on daily necessities.
B. They are buying more affordable foreign products.
C. They are investing heavily in new technologies.
D. They prefer to save money due to future uncertainties.
30. What does the underlined phrase “tap into” in Paragraph 3 most likely mean?
A. Avoid completely. B. Keep an eye on.
C. Break away from. D. Take advantage of.
31. What can be inferred from the passage about the US business leaders’ visit?
A. They are completely unaffected by political tensions.
B. They have decided to move all their supply chains back to the US.
C. They are more eager for market opportunities than political outcomes.
D. They are visiting China mainly to negotiate strict tax rules.
D
Zhang Xuefeng, born into a humble family in Heilongjiang, has become one of the most influential and controversial figures in China’s education sector. Starting his career with merely 2,000 RMB in Beijing, he eventually built a massive online following by breaking down the complex rules of college admissions and postgraduate entrance exams. For millions of students from ordinary backgrounds, he is viewed as a “bridge builder” who dismantles (打破) information barriers, helping them navigate the confusing maze (迷宫) of major selection and career planning.
The core of Zhang’s success lies in his pragmatic (务实的) approach. In an era where educational information is often monopolized (被垄断), he translates obscure (晦涩难懂的) academic policies into plain, straightforward language. He frequently advises students from lower-income families to prioritize employ ability and financial stability over pure passion, arguing that survival should be the first step before pursuing idealism. This realistic guidance has won him immense trust, as it offers a sense of certainty to anxious parents and students who lack professional resources.
However, his straightforward style has also sparked intense debate. Critics argue that his extreme emphasis on salary and job prospects promotes educational utilitarianism (功利主义), potentially marginalizing (边缘化) foundational disciplines and humanities. They believe education should not merely be a tool for making a living, but a journey of cultivating well-rounded personalities and broadening horizons. Furthermore, the relentless high-intensity work required to maintain his massive online presence eventually took a tragic toll on his health, leading to his sudden passing in 2026.
32. Why is Zhang Xuefeng referred to as a “bridge builder” in Paragraph 1?
A. He built physical bridges to connect rural and urban areas.
B. He helped students overcome the lack of accessible educational information.
C. He successfully navigated the confusing maze of Beijing’s traffic.
D. He translated foreign academic policies into Chinese for students.
33. What is the main reason ordinary families trust Zhang’ s guidance?
A. He encourages them to pursue their ideal passions regardless of costs.
B. He provides them with a sense of certainty and practical survival advice.
C. He guarantees admission to top-tier universities for every student.
D. He offers free college tuition to lower-income students.
34. What is the primary concern of Zhang’s critics mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. His extreme pragmatism (务实思想) might harm the true value of education.
B. His health condition is too poor to continue his online teaching.
C. He charges excessively high fees for his consulting services.
D. He focuses too much on humanities and foundational disciplines.
35. What is the author’s overall attitude towards Zhang Xuefeng’ s legacy?
A. Completely critical and dismissive. B. Objective and reflective.
C. Unreservedly enthusiastic. D. Indifferent and neutral.

In a neighborhood, there was a woman named Mrs. Li who lived next to a young girl named Jenny. Mrs. Li had a large garden full of fruits, which she generously shared with everyone. Many in the neighborhood would advise her to sell her fruits, picturing the large profit (收益)she could earn, but Mrs. Li would always respond with a saying, “Mei guanxi! I have only one stomach so I cannot eat all these fruits.”
One day, Jenny’s mother had to work longer hours, leaving Jenny in the care of Mrs. Li. She introduced Jenny to the wonders of her garden, pointing to the ripe lemons. “They let you know they’re ready to be picked by turning yellow and a little shiny. When you squeeze a ripe lemon, it feels firm,” said Mrs. Li. That evening, Jenny returned home with a basket full of lemons. “What will we do with all these lemons?” Mom asked, looking tired.
“Mei guanxi!” Jenny replied.
“What does that mean?” Mom asked anxiously.
Jenny was embarrassed, as she realized she didn’t know. Out of curiosity, Jenny asked Mrs. Li about the meaning of “méi guanxi” the next time she saw her. Mrs. Li explained that it meant “No problem” “It doesn’t matter” or “Not worry”. “Not worry? How could someone not worry? I worry about everything! I worry about making friends at school. I worry that my secondhand clothes aren’t cool. I worry about getting to school too late or too early. I worry about getting called on in class. I worry about getting a question wrong. When it rains, I worry about getting wet. When it’s sunny, I worry about getting burned,” Jenny said disbelievingly. “Have you tried your best? Then Mei guanxi! What’s the worst that could happen? Rain?
Sun? My trees need both to make delicious fruit!” replied Mrs. Li.

18. What difficulty did the speaker have when starting to learn French?
A. Grammar. B. Vocabulary. C. Pronunciation.
19. What did the speaker think of her French after she arrived in France?
A. Poor. B. Acceptable. C. Excellent.
20. What is the most important in learning a language according to the speaker?
A. Mastering the grammar rules.
B. Knowing a large number of words.
C. Using the language in real life.
B 19. A 20. C
W: Pleased to be here today. My name’s Joan, and I’d like to share with you something about my French learning. I still remember that when I first started to learn the language I didn’t really have a problem with the pronunciation. I just had a hard time memorizing words. But I made a great effort and soon I was scoring ten out of ten in all of the tests. By the time I went to university, I could do some writing without much difficulty, and I actually enjoyed learning the grammar rules. Then as part of my university course I had to go and live in France for a year. As soon as I arrived, I realized I didn’t know how to order the type of coffee I liked, and trying to find somewhere to live or stay was something difficult to deal with. I called people about information in the paper, but I had to keep putting the phone down because I couldn’t understand a word they were saying — they all spoke so quickly! I could see then that there’s no point in just knowing words if you can’t hold a conversation with a native speaker. The ability to speak freely is what helps you get a job, hold a conversation or just buy the things you need.

C 29. D 30. D 31. C

B 33. B 34. A 35. B

Have you ever noticed that some people can eat what they want and stay in shape, while others carefully watch what they eat and still put on weight? ____36____
Scientists say when some people eat, their bodies will naturally store the extra energy from food as fat. ____37____ Meanwhile, other people eat more than they need but their bodies are able to “burn off” the extra food without making fat, so rarely have weight problems.
Through experiments, scientists found that eating the same food and getting the same exercise, some lab mice gained weight while others stayed thin. They concluded weight gain seemed to be influenced by genetic factors. ____38____
The study of weight gain is becoming more important as the number of people who are overweight continues to grow. ____39____ This means they are at risk of illness such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
Current medicines for weight control do not work very well because they can have serious side effects. ____40____ Therefore, despite this breakthrough in the study of weight-loss drugs, scientists and health professionals all agree that currently the best way to control weight gain is to have a healthy, balanced diet and an active lifestyle with daily exercise. This will not only help people avoid becoming overweight, but also help them stay healthy and energetic.
A. So people turn to other methods to control their weight.
B. So they hope more people become aware of their weight control.
C. These people gain weight if they eat more than they need each day.
D. In the United States, over 70% of the population have weight problems.
E. However, it takes a long time to develop and thoroughly test new drugs.
F. However, scientists believe that some people stay thin due to their genes.
G. Thus they believe it could lead to developing medicines that prevent weight gain.
F 37. C 38. G 39. D 40. E
上文“Have you ever noticed that some people can eat what they want and stay in shape, while others carefully watch what they eat and still put on weight? (你是否注意到有些人可以随心所欲地吃却保持身材,而另一些人仔细注意饮食却仍然体重增加?)”提出了一个关于体重差异的普遍现象。F选项“However, scientists believe that some people stay thin due to their genes. (然而,科学家认为有些人瘦是由于他们的基因)”与上文问题形成呼应,直接给出了科学家对此现象的一个主流解释:基因因素。此句是典型的“设问-回答”结构中的回答部分,引出了下文对基因和代谢差异的详细分析。故选F项。
【37题详解】
上文“Scientists say when some people eat, their bodies will naturally store the extra energy from food as fat. (科学家说,当一些人进食时,他们的身体会自然地将食物中多余的能量储存为脂肪)”描述了易胖体质人群的身体机制。C选项“These people gain weight if they eat more than they need each day. (如果这些人每天吃得超过所需,他们就会增重)”承接上文,具体说明了这种机制导致的直接后果——一旦摄入过量就会发胖。句中的“These people”指代上文提到的那些身体容易储存脂肪的人,上下文逻辑紧密。故选C项。
【38题详解】
上文“Through experiments, scientists found that eating the same food and getting the same exercise, some lab mice gained weight while others stayed thin. They concluded weight gain seemed to be influenced by genetic factors. (通过实验,科学家们发现,吃同样的食物,做同样的运动,一些实验鼠体重增加,而另一些则保持苗条。他们得出结论,体重增加似乎受到遗传因素的影响)”描述了科学实验及其结论:基因影响体重。G选项“Thus they believe it could lead to developing medicines that prevent weight gain. (因此他们相信,这可能有助于开发出防止体重增加的药物)”顺承上文,基于“基因影响体重”这一科学发现,引出了其潜在应用——研发新的减肥药物。句中的“they”指代上文的“scientists”,逻辑连贯。故选G项。
【39题详解】
上文“The study of weight gain is becoming more important as the number of people who are overweight continues to grow. (随着超重人数不断增加,对体重增加的研究正变得越来越重要)”强调了研究重要性并点明背景:超重人数增长。D选项“In the United States, over 70% of the population have weight problems. (在美国,超过70%的人口有体重问题)”通过具体数据(美国70%以上的人口)来例证上文的“the number of people who are overweight continues to grow”,使论述更具说服力。下文“This means they are at risk of illness such as high blood pressure and heart disease.”
上文“Current medicines for weight control do not work very well because they can have serious side effects. (目前的体重控制药物效果不佳,因为它们可能有严重的副作用)”指出了现有减肥药的弊端。E选项“However, it takes a long time to develop and thoroughly test new drugs. (然而,研发和彻底测试新药需要很长时间)”与上文构成递进关系,在承认现有药物效果不佳的基础上,进一步指出开发新药(如上文提到的基于基因研究的药物)也面临时间漫长的挑战。这为下文“Therefore, despite this breakthrough in the study of weight-loss drugs, scientists and health professionals all agree that currently the best way to control weight gain is to have a healthy, balanced diet and an active lifestyle with daily exercise.(因此,尽管减肥药的研究取得了突破性进展,但科学家和健康专家一致认为,目前控制体重增加的最佳方法是保持健康、均衡的饮食和积极的生活方式,并每天进行锻炼)”的结论提供了强有力的理由:既然现有药不好,新药又遥遥无期,那么最现实可靠的方法就是健康的生活方式。

Dear Amy,
I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling upset about your weight recently. Please don’t be too hard on yourself; it’s something many of us struggle with.
First, I’d suggest focusing on a balanced diet rather than strict dieting. Try to incorporate more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals while cutting down on sugary snacks and fizzy drinks. Secondly, finding a form of exercise you genuinely enjoy is key to sticking with it. Regular physical activity will not only help you get in shape but also boost your mood.
I truly hope these suggestions are helpful. I’m confident that with a positive mindset and a healthy lifestyle, you’ll feel much better about yourself.
Yours,
Li Hua

Li.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Then Mrs. Li began to tell Jenny how she got her Mei guanxi attitude

From then on, Jenny also said “Méi guanxi” every time she faced difficulties.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then Mrs. Li began to tell Jenny how she got her Mei guanxi attitude. Many years ago,she used to work in a large city, shouldering great responsibilities. The pressure was so huge that every small error made her stressed and often angry. Finally, her doctor told her to stop and advised her to leave that life behind. She then bought the house with a garden. Watching the trees face storms and rainy days but still bear fruit made her realize that life has its ups and downs. Embracing the “Mei guanxi” attitude, she finally learned to focus on the present and appreciate the simple joy.
From then on, Jenny also said “Mei guan xi” every time she faced difficulties. When she faced a difficulty, whether it was a tough math question or a misunderstanding with a friend, she’d remember Mrs. Li’s words and the lessons from her garden. Overtime, Jenny noticed that this attitude helped reduce her anxiety. In school, when classmates worried about small matters, she’d share a smile and whisper, “Mei guanxi.” It not only lightened their hearts but encouraged them to adopt a more relaxed attitude towards life.
