First of all, there is a honeymoon stage. Uh, to the visitor, everything seems new and different, including the food, the surroundings and the buildings. And IT produces a feeling of excitement, a desire to look around, to experiment and to explore. The next stage is the horror stage, where the newness wears off and the visitor sees the country from a different viewpoint, and often has a tendency to criticize the country, the life and values of the people. The third stage, we could say, is the humour stage, where people begin to reflect back and laugh at their mistakes in the earlier stages. And the final stage, we could say, is the home stage, where people begin to feel at home and enjoy living in that foreign country. The sun was rising as we drove across the Minnesota state line to New York for my new Ph.D. program. The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn't be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved.
Anne, our first daughter, came into the world when I was a junior majoring in biology in college. It was challenging to balance classes, work schedules, and being a mom. But I got it through, finding moments of delight along the way. On the nights when I was at home, I'd read my class notes out loud to my daughter. She'd respond by asking questions, such as “Mom, what are bacteria?” It helped us both learn.
After I graduated, I knew that I would need a Ph.D. to land the kind of job I wanted. I arrived in New York feeling more than the usual new-graduate-student anxiety. I also suffered from a more personal fear that I was selfish—my decision to invigorate my career was going to have long-term negative impacts on my kids.
Over the past year, though, I've started to let go of some of the worry. I've realized that not only have we adapted to our new situation, but things are getting better. My husband has landed a job that he is happy with. Anne has dreamed of becoming a marine biologist. Recently, while driving past the cancer institute I work at, Anne said, “Thinking about people having cancer is so sad, but I feel better knowing that you are researching it to help.”
Navigating academia as a young mother is hard, but it's also rewarding. My kids are learning to look at the world through the lens of science, and watching their mom succeed inspires them. I look forward to seeing them follow my footsteps, whatever path they choose.
24.How did the writer feel about the move for herPh.D. program?
A.It was fruitful but exhausting.
B.It was the last thing she would do.
C.It was hopeful but challenging.
D.It was promising for the whole family.
25.Which can best replace the underlined word “invigorate” in Paragraph 3?
A.Promote. B.Change.
C.Create. D.Choose.
26.What can be inferred from Anne's words in Paragraph 4?
A.People are afraid of having cancer.
B.Cancer is the No. 1 enemy of health.
C.Her mother takes her job seriously.
D.Anne is proud of her mother.
27.What could be the best title for the text?
A.Onwards and Upwards
B.Double Gains of Mom's Pursuit
C.Like Mother, Like Daughter
D.The Generation Gap Narrowed by Love
C
Today, trees face a serious threat from human activities. Over the past 300 years, 1.5 billion hectares of forest have been lost, resulting in the loss of biodiversity, desertification, and increased flood risks. Deforestation is also linked to a higher likelihood of disease outbreaks due to increased contact between humans and animals.
In his book Treewilding, ecologist Jake Robinson explores how to best protect and restore forests. He argues that merely planting trees is not enough to fight deforestation. Tree-planting projects have increased dramatically in recent decades. Although trees help prevent soil degradation and fight climate change by capturing carbon dioxide, poorly planned tree-planting projects can harm ecosystems. Monoculture, where only one type of tree is planted, reduces biodiversity and makes forests easier to suffer from diseases.
Robinson advocates a more informed approach to forest restoration. Regulators must understand the complex connections between trees, people, animals, and even microorganisms. For instance, native people often rely on forests for farming and raising livestock. Therefore, tree-planting projects should take into account local knowledge and the needs of communities to avoid displacing them unfairly.
Robinson highlights several forest restoration projects. The Great Green Wall project aims to grow a line of trees across the Sahara Desert to prevent desert expansion and improve local livelihoods. Another project, Western Australia's Gondwana Link, seeks to reconnect broken forest areas to protect endangered species. These projects emphasize the importance of understanding local ecosystems and investing in the long-term care of young trees.
Robinson concludes that natural regeneration—allowing forests to heal themselves—is one of the best methods for restoration. He compares it to a phoenix(凤凰) rising from the ashes, pointing out that a forest can regenerate from its own leftovers. His descriptions and thought-provoking questions add depth to his narrative. He explores how to understand the environment's fundamental state and examines how animals contribute to forest regeneration. His balanced perspective encourages researchers to develop more effective methods for forest restoration.
28.What does Robinson argue in his book Treewilding?
A.Planting trees can pose risks to ecosystems.
B.Deforestation has led to a complete biodiversity loss.
C.Forests can only be restored via human intervention.
D.Planting more trees is the best way to fight deforestation.
29.What does monoculture refer to according to the text?
A.A natural process of forest growth.
B.A method for restoring ecosystems.
C.A practice that enhances forest health.
D.A phenomenon harmful to biodiversity.
30.Why does Robinson emphasize the role of communities in tree-planting projects?
A.To ensure the projects are cost-effective.
B.To make tree-planting projects more digital.
C.To protect communities from unjust displacement.
D.To encourage modern technology in restoration efforts.
31.Which is the best approach to forest restoration according to Robinson?
A.Planting diverse species of trees.
B.Encouraging natural regeneration.
C.Promoting extensive artificial planting.
D.Helping animals tackle forest's leftovers.

What makes people succeed? People are wondering it for a long time. Now, many researchers think there are two qualities which make the difference between men of great success and men of average performance: curiosity and discontent. Usually an outstanding man possesses both of them.
Together, these deep human urges count for much more than ambition. Galileo was not merely ambitious when he dropped objects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at Pisa and timed their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious and asked in discontent, “Why? Why? Why?”
Fortunately, curiosity and discontent don't have to be learned. People are born with them and need only recapture them.
“The great man,” said Mencius(孟子), “is he who does not lose his child's heart.” Yet most of us do lose it. We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd. And the crowd desires only the calm and restful average. It encourages us to occupy our own little corner, to avoid foolish leaps into the dark, to be satisfied.
Most people meet new people, and new ideas, with hesitation. But once having met and liked them, people think how terrible it would have been, had they missed the chance. They will probably have to force themselves to waken their curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.
How should you start? Modestly, so as not to become discouraged. There was once a girl who couldn't arrange flowers to satisfy herself. She was curious about how the experts did it. Later she became one of the experts, writing books on flower arrangement.
One way to begin is to answer your own excuses. You haven't any special ability? Most people don't; there are only a few geniuses. You haven't any time? That's good, because it's always the people with no time who get things done. Harriet Stowe, mother of six, wrote parts of Uncle Tom's Cabin while cooking. You're too old? Remember that Thomas Costain was 57 when he published his first novel, and that Grandma Moses showed her first pictures when she was 78.
However you start, remember there is no better time to start than right now, for you'll never be more alive than you are at this moment.
32.What does the author aim to do in writing Paragraph 1?
A.To propose a definition. B.To make a comparison.
C.To reach a conclusion. D.To present an argument.
33.What does the example of Galileo tell us?
A.Trial and error leads to the finding of truth.
B.Scientists tend to be curious and ambitious.
C.Creativity results from challenging authority.
D.Greatness comes from a lasting desire to explore.
34.What can we learn from Paragraphs 6 and 7?
A.Gaining success helps you become an expert.
B.The genius tends to get things done creatively.
C.Lack of talent and time is no reason for taking no action.
D.You should remain modest when approaching perfection.
35. What can you infer from the last sentence?
A.Start right now.
B.Everybody is alive.
C.You are too old to start.
D.You need to wait for the chance.

The Han-Wei Luoyang Ancient City Site Museum, 56 (locate) in Luoyang in Central China's Henan Province, opened to the public for trial operations on June 5th, 2025. The museum was intended to show the ancient city as it 57 (exist) from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC-771 BC) to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The ancient city thrived (兴盛) as the capital during the Han-Wei period.
“Its layout shows the ‘central-axis (中心轴) planning’ design that 58 (absolute) influenced later Chinese capital design. 59 site also reshaped the urban planning of ancient Chinese capitals,” said archaeologist He Jierao.
The museum has designed three themed exhibition halls to show over 1,300 relics (遗物). One hall takes zhong, 60 means “central” or “middle” in Chinese, as its theme. Dark rain clouds were gathering in the sky. I was cycling as fast as I could to get home before the downpour. When I felt a few big drops on my head, I decided to dash for a bus stop, about a hundred meters away. As I was nearing the bus stop, I saw a lady rushing towards it from the opposite direction, a little boy following her. The little boy was finding it hard to keep up with her, so, finally, she just picked him up and carried him.
Suddenly, a motorcycle roared past me, almost knocking me down. The motorcyclist turned to look at me, and for a split second, I saw his cruel, glaring eyes. A flood of fear crept over me. However, courage from nowhere got me to shout “Hey! Are you mad?” My voice trembled a bit. He just sped up. Then, I realized that he was rushing right towards the woman and the little boy!
“Watch out! Watch out!” I shouted. I saw the lady turn to look at the motorcyclist, with worry on her face. In an instant, the motorcyclist reached the lady. He stretched out an arm and grabbed hold of her handbag, hitting her on the back at the same time. The impact sent the lady hurtling (猛冲) forward. The mother and child fell on the road, landing right into the path of an oncoming van.
“Stop! Stop!” I screamed at the van driver, waving my arms wildly in the air. Thankfully, the van stopped a few meters from the spot where the mother and child lay. I saw the lady crawling on the road towards the crying child. Throwing my bicycle at the side of the road, I ran to help them.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
By the time I got there, the van driver had reached them.
I realized, by this time, that the motorcyclist must have gone far from that spot, with the lady's handbag.

25.A 词义猜测题。根据第三段中的“After I graduated, I knew that I would need a Ph.D. to land the kind of job I wanted.”

One possible version:
When it comes to the advantages of urban life, what comes into our minds are the well-established transportation system, quality education and health care as well as comfortable living conditions, which are the main attractions of modern city life.
However, as a result of the widespread use of modern vehicles and booming industry, there are some disadvantages that can't be ignored. For instance, traffic jams have become a big headache for the people driving to and from work. Besides, noise and harmful smoke pose a threat to people's health.
Despite the disadvantages above, I still think it suitable for people to live in the city where there are various cultural events and people can enjoy the convenience of modern life.
第二节
One possible version:
By the time I got there, the van driver had reached them. He was gently holding the child and examining his body. Fortunately, the little boy was all right. “Don't panic. You'll be all right. We'll rush you to a hospital,” I said to the woman, trying to relieve her anxiety. The lady could not walk, so the man carried her and settled her in his van. I carried the whimpering child to the van and set him beside his mother. The man asked me to go along with them so that I could help make the police report.
I realized,by this time, that the motorcyclist must have gone far from that spot, with the lady's handbag. A few days later, I received a phone call from the woman. I was informed that she had already been discharged from the hospital. “What's more, the snatch thief was finally arrested and put into jail, thanks to your detailed description of his facial features,” she added. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your timely help.” Finishing the telephone call, I felt overwhelmed by delight from the bottom of my heart. The warm sunshine shone in. What a meaningful day!
