Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is all about restoration this year. This month the park’s main corridor is being repaired. The park’s gallery reopened to the public in April after being remodeled to allow full accessibility for people with a disability. Even John Muir, known as the father of the national parks, is being revived(使复活) by the actor Lee Stetson, who will answer the audience’s questions about the park and its history at the Yosemite Theater.
Petrified Forest National Park
Petrified Forest National Park is now mapping self-guided hikes to its more remote destinations, in part to remind visitors that the parks are theirs to wander in. From a young age, I collected role models. In school, as a teenager, I tried to channel Whitney Houston. In the working world, I paid close attention to our female senior managers. By watching and imitating others—especially women of color who looked or sounded like me—I gained confidence in my own abilities.
But when I started my own company, my pool of role models became smaller. Only 2.1% of risk investment goes to women-founded companies. “Who can I look up to?” I wondered. “Who can I learn from?” I decided to create an inspiration wall in my office, with photos of the role models I could see—women like Oprah, Michelle Obama, and Vicky, co-founder of a skincare brand. I never thought I’d meet these women, but their success gave me hope.
Then one day, a couple of years ago, I surprised myself with a thought: what if I did reach out to one of my role models? I feared rejection, but my desire for connection was stronger. I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me. I didn’t have her email address. So I tried a cold Instagram message, and she responded the next day!
That was in 2022. We’ve spoken numerous times since, and the conversations have been invaluable. They’re rare chances to gain guidance from a successful woman. But here’s the most valuable lesson I gained: when Vicky first replied to me, I wasn’t the only one excited. Vicky was excited too—because she’s always looking for ways to support other women. All my life, I’d thought of role models as a one-way relationship: I’d gain strength from someone stronger. But the situation is more than that.
I once sent Vicky a care package from my sunglasses company. She wrote me a thank-you note, and texted a selfie of her and her daughter wearing my products. Today, I keep that letter on my desk next to my keyboard—a reminder that just as I believe in her, she believes in me. We’re all here to help each other grow.
24.How did the author build up her confidence?
A.By cooperating with women of color.
B.By observing and copying her models.
C.By making friends with persons like her.
D.By starting her own sunglasses company.
25.What is the author’s intention of creating an inspiration wall in her office?
A.To inspire her employees’ creativity.
B.To make her workplace more attractive.
C.To encourage herself to achieve success.
D.To improve her employees’ work efficiency.
26.Why did the author choose to reach out to Vicky?
A.She was afraid of being rejected.
B.She only had Vicky’s email address.
C.Vicky’s story had always motivated her.
D.Vicky liked giving guidance to other women.
27.What can be concluded according to the text?
A.Practice makes perfect.
B.Strength flows both ways.
C.A good beginning is half done.
D.Actions speak louder than words.
C
Pollination(授粉)is important for the reproduction of many plants. Some rely on the wind or water for pollination, but most depend on animals to serve as the pollinators. Insects like bees, moths, and beetles also serve as the pollinators, helping with this process.
Unfortunately, the worldwide spread of light pollution may be affecting the important interactions between plants and insects, causing bad consequences for both natural areas and agricultural lands.
A team of scientists in Switzerland recently studied how the complex interactions between plants and pollinators were affected by artificial light at night. By setting up several pieces of grasslands with LED streetlamps, the scientists were able to compare the differences.
Focusing on the cabbage thistle, a type of plant, the researchers counted 62% fewer insect visits to the lit grasslands. They also noted 29% fewer pollinators than the ones in the uncontrolled lands, which resulted in 13% fewer fruits on the cabbage thistle plants they were studying.
Based on the fact that there was reduced fruit production in the controlled lands, the scientists found that the pollinators that worked during the day were not able to make up for the reduced activity of the pollinators at night. Additionally, there seemed to be the potential for a very negative effect, because many of the plants some insects are helping to pollinate are the most important sources of food for them.
Artificial light affects pollination, and thus fruit production, in two different but connected ways, according to a scientist from California. Imagine a moth flying into a light at night—the first way is by misdirecting pollinators. The second way is by disturbing the sense of time of plants. Besides, plants and insects respond to varying wavelengths of light differently. More research is needed to understand the complex interactions between plants, pollinators, and different types of light.
“The annually increasing man-made light improves humans’ life. It causes bad consequences for the environment, however. We can never base our life on the damage to the environment,” says Knop, lead author of the study.

A.Putting forward a problem.
B.Presenting background information.
C.Showing the purpose of the study.

29.According to the study, the plants under the artificial light .
A.stopped bearing fruits in the end
B.failed to be pollinated
C.were visited by fewer insects
D.were more attractive to pollinators
30.What does the underlined part in paragraph 5 refer to?
A.The starvation of insects. B.The failure of pollination.
C.The reduced fruit production. D.The death of some plants.
31.What can we learn from paragraph 6?
A.Misdirected insects disturb plants’ sense of time.
B.Pollination and fruit production are related in two ways.
C.The different effects of varying light on pollination are clear.
D.Artificial light affects plants’ pollination and sense of time.
D
An artificial intelligence (AI) lawyer has almost made history as the first AI to defend in a court case. Called the world’s first “robot lawyer”, the robot is scheduled to give tips to the defendant(被告) on how to best argue their case against a speeding ticket when the hearing(听证会) takes place.
Created by newly founded company DoNotPay, the robot lawyer was on a mobile phone and delivered tips through headphones to the defendant, who had agreed to only say what he was told. The landmark case was planned as a test for DoNotPay’s services and they would pay for any fine incurred if the AI lawyer failed to win the case for the defendant.
While it may sound like the future of court hearings, there’s a disadvantage—mobile phones and headphones are generally not allowed in courtrooms. However, according to the company’s founder Joshua Browder, the hearing would take place in a location where the headphones would be considered a “hearing aid”, thus allowing the use of AI.
With the aim of helping customers get out of paying fines and late fees, as well as saving the costs of hiring a human lawyer, DoNotPay was founded in 2015 and has since moved to AI following rapid advancements in technology that have occurred in the form of OpenAI’s GPT-3. It was previously used to help a customer out of a $16 bank fee using only the AI chatbot, but the company stated that it had helped with 3 million cases in the UK and US. However, this is the first time that an AI robot has been designed to be a lawyer in the courtroom.
In October 2022, an AI robot made history by being the first to give evidence in the House of Lords. This groundbreaking moment served as a significant mark in the march of AI into our lives, which plays increasingly diverse and influential roles. It was also a reminder that the integration of AI into various fields and institutions is not just a short-lived fashion but a transformative force that is reshaping the world as we know it.
32.Why should the hearing’s location be specially chosen?
A.To attract media attention.
B.To show the latest technology.
C.To make sure the judges are fair.
D.To ensure AI could be used legally.
33.What is the main reason for DoNotPay creating the AI lawyer?
A.To expand the company’s profits.
B.To help customers save money.
C.To replace human lawyers completely.
D.To provide legal advice for the general public.
34.What is the author’s attitude towards the future of AI?
A.Unclear. B.Doubtful.
C.Worried. D.Positive.
35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Limitations Faced by AI Robots
B.The Rise of AI Robots in Everyday Life
C.Game Changer—AI Lawyer Defends in Court
D.Breaking News—AI Lawyer Darkens Human Lawyers’ Future

Much meaning can be conveyed clearly with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.
Do you have such a kind of experience? 36 , but not too long. And if he senses that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.
37 . If you are looked at for a while, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry at people staring at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?
38 . But things are different when it comes to staring at members of the opposite sex. If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds, his intention is obvious—that is, he wishes to attract her attention to make her understand that he is admiring her. In fact, continuous eye contact occurs between lovers only, who enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time to show affection that words cannot express.
However, when the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation happens, the speaker only looks at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener is attentive. 39 , as if he tries to control you, you will feel uncomfortable. A poor liar usually gives away himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes in the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. 40 .
Evidently, eye contact should be made according to the relationship between two people and the specific situation.
A.Quite the contrary
B.The same is true in daily life
C.On a bus you may look at a stranger
D.Sometimes it doesn’t matter to others

根据第一段内容,尤其是最后一句“By watching and imitating others...I gained confidence in my own abilities.”
根据第三段第三句“I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me.”
根据第四段最后两句“All my life...is more than that.”以及最后一段中的“...just as I believe in her, she believes in me. We're all here to help each other grow.”
故选A。

41.A 根据文章第一句中的“millions of pounds of produce is still going to waste”和空后的“they were shocked”可知,此处指几个斯坦福大学的学生听说每天有大量的食物“被浪费”。故选A。
44.A 根据第三段中的“The farmers want to donate their surplus food”、第四段中的“they 47 food...to food banks”及倒数第三段中的“deliver produce to the places where it is needed most”再结合空后的“supplies to charities, but also helps farmers earn money”可知,此处指他们在农民那里买食物然后分给有需要的人,这样既能给慈善机构分发物资又能帮农民赚钱。故选A。
45.D 空前“The farmers want to donate their surplus food, but”中的but表示“转折”,再结合后面的“like packaging and transporting it”可知,此处指农民想捐赠剩余的食物,但他们负担不起包装和运输等的费用。
故选A。
51.A 根据空后的“to deliver produce to the places where it is needed most”可知,这是他们的“目标”。故选A。
故选A。
rely on 意为“依靠;依赖”,故填on。
opportunity后常接不定式作后置定语,构成the opportunity to do sth.
此处为“with+宾语(his papers)+宾语补足语”结构,his papers与publish之间是被动关系,故填过去分词published。
One possible version:
Dear David,
I'm writing to share with you a visit to Sky Farm, a high-tech smart farm, last Friday.
The farm combines advanced technology with traditional farming methods. It is known for its eco-friendly practices and latest systems like automatic watering and automatic picking. It was fascinating to see how technology made agriculture more efficient and environmentally friendly. The visit was not only educational but also inspiring, as it opened my eyes to the potential of modern farming techniques. I can't wait to see how these advancements will shape our future.
What do you think about the application of technology in agriculture? Have you visited any such farms in the UK? Looking forward to hearing from you!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Joel stepped onto the stage, his heart beating wildly. With a microphone in hand and a rush of excitement coming over him, he began to rap, pouring his heart and soul into every lyric. The audience was taken aback by this young talent, and their cheers grew louder and louder. Joel's confidence built up as he realized that he had the power to connect with people through his music. He performed even harder, winning a round of applause. Latto, who had gone backstage, was drawn to the young rapper's energy and charm.
Witnessing Joel's incredible performance,Latto approached him. She offered her words of praise and encouragement. Over the following weeks, Latto provided Joel with invaluable advice based on her experience. They cooperated and developed a friendship rooted in their shared love of music. And finally, Joel's rap skills gained recognition. Through hard work, perseverance, and an unexpected encounter with Latto, Joel evolved from a small-town dreamer into a respected rapper. His journey became a proof that magic can unfold when talent and opportunity meet, reminding everyone that dreams can really become a reality.
