My name is Michael. I’m in Grade 8 at a public school of New York City. I have been learning Chinese for three years. Many people ask me why I want to learn Chinese. When I really think about it, there are so many reasons.
Since I was a little kid, I have always been interested in Chinese culture. My home was only about 10 minutes’ walk from Chinatown. I loved going to Chinese restaurants with my family and watching dragon dances during the Spring Festival. In the 6th grade, my primary school offered several foreign language courses. Most of my classmates chose Spanish or French, but I found writing Chinese characters and understanding Chinese grammar challenging and enjoyable. After learning Chinese for some time, I started to dream of traveling to China one day. My father went to China on business once. He told me that China has one of he world’s oldest cultures and has become one of the largest economies. Learning Chinese can surely allow me to better experience China’s traditional culture and modern development as well.
In any case, Chinese will be more widely used in the future as China is growing stronger. Why not join me and study this interesting and valuable language?
