Step 2 Pre⁃reading 1.Write the questions“What may happen in an earthquake?” and “What do you think people should do in an earthquake?” on the blackboard.Let students think and discuss these questions in groups. 2.Invite some students to share their group’s ideas.Then teach the new words and phrases related to the earthquake while explaining the possible answers. Step 3 While⁃reading 1.Ask students to read the story“The Highfield earthquake” quickly and find out the main idea of the story. 2.Work on A (1)Ask students to read the story again carefully and match each main idea with the correct paragraph number. (2)Check the answers together and ask students to explain why they match them in that way. Step 4 Work on B (1)Show Timmy’s pictures on the screen.Let students write the correct caption in the blank under each picture and put the pictures in the correct order. (2)Ask students to retell the story in their own words according to the pictures and captions. Step 2 Work on C 1.Give students one minute to review the words and phrases in the box and then ask students to read them. 2.Let students scan the blog post first and then ask them to complete the blog post with the correct forms of the words and phrases in the box. 3.Check the answers together and give some advice.
