二、阅读理解(5题)
Students in a vocational cookery class joined a weekend meal service for elderly people living alone. At first, they expected to spend most of the morning cooking. However, the community worker asked them to visit several residents beforehand and learn about their health needs, food preferences and kitchen equipment.
The interviews changed the students' plan. One resident could not eat food with much sugar, while another found hard food difficult to chew. The class therefore prepared two versions of the meal and printed simple heating instructions. During delivery, the students did not leave immediately. They checked whether each person could open the containers safely and listened to suggestions about portion size.
After three weekends, the students reviewed the service. They had improved their cooking and teamwork, but the biggest lesson was that helpful work begins with understanding the person receiving it. Their teacher also noticed that students explained food choices more clearly than before. The class decided to continue the project and invite nursing students to offer basic health advice. By combining professional skills, the two groups hoped to provide a service that was safer and more useful.
