Switzerland is one of the most developed countries in Europe. It is famous as one of the cleanest countries in the world.
The Swiss think that recycling is very important. The government has made laws which require everyone to recycle. In 1998, the Swiss government passed a law which says that people can not throw away any electronic machines. Instead, people are told to bring old ones, such as televisions, computers and fridges, to special centers when they don’t need them. Many parts of the old machines are reused, and only the parts that can’t be used are thrown away. The government also charges (收费) a rubbish bag tax (税收). If people want their rubbish to be collected, they must buy yellow stickers (张贴物) and put them on their rubbish bags. In 2003, 47% of all rubbish in the cities was recycled. This included 70% of paper, 95% of glass, 71% of plastic bottles and 85 — 90% of cans. Until recently, people could get a small amount of money when they recycled their bottles. On June 9th, at the end of China’s National College Entrance Exam (NCEE), commonly known as Gaokao, a mother in Guangzhou drew public attention. She had waited outside the exam site at Guangya School Liwan Campus for three straight days to accompany her daughter. When talking about the online debate that “parents’ sending kids to the exam is unnecessary”, she disagreed. She said that even if students do not say it out aloud, they still want the company of their family members.
This has sparked a lively discussion. Some people support the practice. They believe that parental company gives students a sense of safety and prevents them from feeling left out. Also, parents can help with sudden problems, such as forgetting important documents or traffic accidents on the way.
However, some people hold different views. They think too much parental attention may pass on anxiety to the students. For those who are very independent, it might even make them feel stressed and uncomfortable.
In fact, there is no single right answer to this debate. The best choice depends on single student’s personality and needs. Whether to send kids to the exam should be decided by the family together, with the student’s feelings in mind.
42.Why did the mother in Guangzhou wait outside the exam site for three days?

A.She was there to report the exam.
B.She worked as a volunteer at the school.
C.She was waiting to pick up her lost documents.
