Everyone knows that forests help fight climate change. However, a recent scientific report shows that the world lost 300,000 square kilometers of forests in 2024. That’s an area about the size of Italy.
According to the report, fires were the biggest cause of forest loss. Take Brazil for example, this country has the largest area of rainforest in the world. Last year, it suffered from a long period of dry weather. Wildfires broke out and spread. As a result, about 25,000 square kilometers of the primary rainforest disappeared in the country.
The second biggest cause of the world’s forest loss was clearing land for farming. As people need more farmland, they keep cutting down forests every year. In 2024, the area of forest cleared for farming increased by 14% worldwide. The situation was more severe in six developing countries. For example, Bolivia lost 2.5 times as much forest in 2024 as it did the year before.
Experts call on governments, businesses and people to work together before it is too late. It seems that China has set a good example. Thanks to cooperation at many levels, China had the biggest increase in forest area among all countries in 2024. If more countries start to take action like China, the earth will become a greener planet.

Natural disasters are dangerous events that happen in nature. They include floods, typhoons, and wildfire, etc. Every year, millions of people are affected by them.
Last month, a strong typhoon hit the coast of East Asia. The wind was very strong, and heavy rain fell for two days. Then a terrible flood happened. Many trees fell down, and some houses were broken. More than 50,000 people had to leave their homes and go to safe places. The government sent food, water, and blankets to help them.
In another part of the world, a wildfire burned a large forest. The fire started during a very hot and dry summer. It took firefighters more than two weeks to put it out. Many animals lost their homes, and the smoke made the air unhealthy to breathe. But there is good news. Scientists are getting better at predicting disasters. Weather satellites can track typhoons days before they arrive.

This year, Typhoon Bebinca brought huge losses to the Philippines, resulting in six deaths, two people missing, dozens of injuries, and leaving tens of thousands of people homeless. Shanghai in China was also affected, with all flights at Pudong and Hongqiao International Airports forced to cancel after 8 pm on September 15th. And it was reported that our neighbors like Thailand and Japan might also be affected.
Typhoons form over warm oce an waters. When the warm, wet air rises, it forms a low- pressure area. As the air around rush es in to fill the space, it starts spinning(旋转) and when the spinning(旋压) becomes fast enough, a powerful typhoon occurs, together with heavy rainfall and huge waves, causing damage to lives and property along its way.
Although humans can not stop typhoons from happening, some precautions can be taken to reduce the losses and help survive a typhoon. First, before a typhoon comes, we should check our homes for any objects that could be blown away and cause damage or injuries. Second, it's important to stay indoors during a typhoon and avoid going outside. We should also keep a supply of food, water, and batteries, enough to last for a few days, in case of emergencies. 故选A。

It can help us stay away from risks and keep our life orderly when sudden bad weather comes. Many people ignore simple safety rules, so they easily get into trouble on rainy days.
Heavy rain can cause a lot of serious problems in our city. When the rain is too heavy, streets and low-lying (低洼的) roads will be flooded quickly.
This gives people time to prepare or leave dangerous areas. Early warning systems have saved many lives. We cannot stop natural disasters, but we can learn how to stay safe.

Lastly; always follow the instructions of the local government and be prepared to move to a safe place if necessary. By taking these measures, we can reduce the harm caused by typhoons and keep ourselves and our families safe. Remember, safety always comes first in a natural disaster
