In a small town south of the Yangtze River, people make special teapots. Good teapots are made from purple clay from Huanglong Mountain. Local workers call this special clay "gold within the mud". Three main kinds of clay are used: purple, red and green. People name them "five-colored earth".
Purple clay is the most well-known. It looks rough but feels smooth. It can "breathe". When you pour hot water into a teapot of purple clay, steam can slowly go through its wall. So tea inside can keep nice smell and will not turn bad easily.
Different from porcelain teapots made on wheels, Yixing teapots are hand-beaten. Workers press clay into thin pieces. They cut, bend and beat them to make bodies, lids, spouts and handles. No two teapots are exactly the same. Some special-shaped teapots are made by putting curved clay pieces together.
Workers fire teapots in a special kiln(窑). The temperature must be just right. Too low, the clay stays soft; too high, the teapot will break. After days of firing and cooling, workers polish teapots lightly and finish them.
Yixing teapots are not just for show. People use them for making tea. Years of use will make its surface darker and shinier. Later, even clean water poured from it may carry a light tea smell. Later, ancient Chinese scholars began to draw and write words on teapots. Since then, teapots have become works mixing poems, handwriting and hand skills.

D. To compare purple clay with other kinds of clay.
38. What makes Yixing teapots different from porcelain teapots?

39. Put the following steps of making a Yixing teapot in the correct order.

With modern scanning technology, researchers find a secret hidden under one Picasso's painting. For more than one hundred years, people could not see a woman's picture under Portrait of Mateu Fernández de Soto. This finding helps people better understand Picasso's early art creation.
The hidden woman wears a popular hair style from the early 1900s. Workers at an art museum found her. They used infrared cameras to scan the painting. Then they saw her clear eyes, ears and hair.
No one is sure who this woman really was. She may be a model, a friend or someone Picasso loved. Though we cannot confirm her real identity, experts keep studying the painting for more facts.
X-ray scans also show Picasso painted the new picture directly over the old one. In his early days, he often did so because he did not have enough money for new painting boards. He did not clean away the old picture completely before painting new works. This special way of creating slowly became one of his art features.
Now, hidden pictures under great works are found more often as technology develops. Similar findings appear in works of other world-famous artists. New scanning tools change how people understand old famous paintings.
41. What does the underlined word "infrared" in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. A kind of camera that uses invisible light.
B. A tool used for cleaning old paintings.
C. A type of paint used by Picasso.
D. A machine that repairs damaged artworks.
42. According to the passage, why is the woman described as "mysterious"?
A. Because her painting style is unusual.
B. Because her real identity remains unknown.
C. Because she lived in the early 1900s.
D. Because she was a famous model.
43. What can be inferred from the fourth paragraph about Picasso's early career?
A. He was already very rich and famous.
B. He never painted on new boards.
C. He always cleaned his old works before repainting.
D. He had financial difficulties at that time.
44. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5?
A. Picasso was the first artist to paint over old works.
B. Old paintings are too difficult to understand.
C. Many artists copied Picasso's painting style.
D. Technology helps discover more secrets in old paintings.
45. Why does the author mention other world-famous artists in the last paragraph?
A. To prove that Picasso was not the only artist who painted over old works.
B. To show that similar hidden discoveries have happened in other artworks as well.
C. To suggest that other artists were more talented than Picasso.
D. To argue that hidden paintings are more valuable than visible ones.

44.段落主旨题。末段指出随着技术发展,更多隐藏画作被发现,新技术正改变人们对名画的理解方式,故D正确。A"first"无依据;C"copy"未提及;B与文意相反。
45.推理判断题。末段"Similar findings appear in works of other world-famous artists"说明毕加索画作下的发现并非孤例,类似情况也出现在其他艺术家作品中。A偷换概念(画旧作vs藏新画);C/D原文无依据。

"How long do you spend catching these fish?" the businessman asked.
"Not very long," answered the fisherman.
"Why not keep working longer? You can catch more fish," said the confused businessman.
"I have got enough fish for today. They can feed my whole family. I can even share some fish with my neighbours," the fisherman said.
The businessman asked what he would do for the rest of his day. The fisherman told him: after getting enough fish, he would go home for lunch and a short nap. Later he would play with his children. When night came, he would meet friends in the village, enjoying music, singing and dancing.
The businessman felt excited. He wanted to give advice. "You should work longer hours. Catch as many fish as you can. Save money, buy bigger boats, set up your own company. Then you can make your company public and become much richer."
"What shall I do after becoming rich?" the fisherman asked.
"Then you can buy a nice house by the sea. Go fishing whenever you feel like it. Spend lots of happy time with family and friends," the businessman replied.

50. What message does the author want to convey through this story?

B. Working hard is the only way to happiness.
C. Happiness can be found in simple present-day life.
D. We must make big companies to realize our dreams.
