Have you ever heard someone say, “Look on the bright side!” or “Every cloud has a silver lining”? When you’re feeling down, people often tell you to “cheer up.” These are all ways to encourage you to think positively. But what exactly is positive thinking, and why does it matter?
Positive thinking means focusing on the good parts of any situation, no matter how hard or upsetting it is. You spend more mental energy on the things you want to happen, and less on the things you dislike or want to avoid.
Here’s a simple example: flipping (轻抛) a coin. If you think positively, you expect it to land on heads (the winning side) and focus on what you’ll do if you win. If you think negatively, you expect to lose and worry about feeling embarrassed. But being positive doesn’t mean ignoring real problems. It just means choosing to focus on the good, not making up a fake (虚假的), perfect world.
Positive thinking won’t magically change the world around you. ______. It affects how you feel, your mental health, and the choices you make every day. Your brain is powerful, but it can’t pay attention to every single detail. When you think positively, you train your brain to notice the good things in life, which makes you happier and more confident.
So next time life feels hard, remember: choosing positive thoughts is choosing to grow into a better version of yourself.
4.How does the author begin the passage?
A.Telling a story. B.Asking a question.
C.Giving an example.
5.When you think positively about flipping a coin, you ______.
A.worry about losing B.expect to lose

C.The world will never get better.
7.What is the best title for this passage?
A.How to Flip a Coin B.The Importance of Being Sad
C.How Happy Thoughts Change You

A 10-year-old girl, Tilly Smith, saved more than 100 tourists from the tsunami on Mai Khao Beach in Phuket, Thailand on 26 December 2004.
Tilly was walking along the beach with her family when she noticed something strange about the waves. She realised there was going to be a tsunami because she had seen similar waves in a tsunami video in her geography class two weeks earlier. Her teacher had taught them about the early signs and causes of tsunamis.
“There was white foam on the surface of the sea,” Tilly remembered. “The water was coming in rapidly, but it wasn’t going out again. It was coming in, and then in, and then in, towards the hotel. The beach was becoming smaller and smaller.”
She told her parents that a tsunami was coming. Her parents knew nothing about tsunamis so they could not tell whether she was right. They wondered if it was just bad weather. But she was certain and started shouting, “Tsunami, there’s going to be a tsunami. We have to get away; we have to run!”
Seeing his daughter so scared, Tilly’s father, Colin Smith, decided to return to their hotel. They rushed up the beach and warned people of the coming tsunami. Mr Smith also told the hotel guard about the tsunami. The guard urged everyone on the beach to run towards the hotel.
The Smiths had just made it onto the second floor of their hotel when a wall of water rushed onto the beach and hit the building.

On August 7, 2025, heavy continuous rain hit Yuzhong County, Gansu Province, causing flash floods. The disaster seriously affected four towns, including Chengguan Town, Mapo Township, Xiaokangying Township and Xiaguanying Town. Many houses were destroyed, roads were cut off, and some water supply pipelines were damaged, leaving 12,000 people in 23 villages without normal water use. By August 10, the flood had led to 15 deaths and 28 people missing.
When the disaster struck, the Communist Party members and cadres in Yuzhong County took action immediately. Wang Dong, deputy secretary of the Party branch (党支部副书记) in Jiuzhuanggou Village, Mapo Township, noticed the increasing rain at 8 p.m. on August 7. He quickly warned village cadres (干部) and checked hidden geological disaster points. Fearing that WeChat messages might not reach everyone, 12 Party members split up to knock on doors one by one, shouting to urge villagers to evacuate to higher ground.
During the evacuation (撤离), Wang Dong risked his life to save villagers trapped in the flood zone. His car was swept away by the flood, but he still managed to lead the villagers to safety. The journey of only a few hundred meters to the village committee took over three hours because of the thick mud. Party members carried the elderly and held children, helping villagers find a path to survival in the mud.
After the flood, rescue and reconstruction work went on in full swing. By the afternoon of August 9, the water supply was fully restored in three towns as the main water pipelines were repaired. Social love also poured in—charitable organizations and the Red Cross in Yuzhong County opened donation channels for money and materials. By November, the county had made great progress in post-disaster reconstruction, with resettlement houses being built quickly and well. With the joint efforts of all people, Yuzhong County was gradually getting back on its feet.
12.What caused the flash floods in Yuzhong County?
A.Strong winds. B.Heavy continuous rain. C.Earthquakes.
13.What did Wang Dong do first when he found the rain was getting heavier?
A.He drove villagers to safety.
B.He repaired the water supply pipelines.
C.He warned village cadres and checked hidden risks.
14.Why did the short journey to the village committee take over three hours?
A.Because the road was blocked by fallen trees.
B.Because the villagers walked very slowly.
C.Because of the thick mud on the road.
15.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The flood only affected one town in Yuzhong County.
B.Wang Dong’s car was not damaged during the rescue.
C.Water supply in three towns was restored on August 9.

On December 18, 2023, a magnitude (震级) 6.2 earthquake hit Jishishan County in Linxia, Gansu Province. It was the most serious earthquake in the past nine years. Up to December 22nd, it had taken 117 lives and injured 781 people in Gansu Province.
On April 3, 2024, A 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook the sea area near Hualien in China’s Taiwan. The earthquake hit at 7:58 a.m. and strong shakes were felt across Taiwan. Xinhua reporters in Taipei experienced serious shakes as their apartment building shook without stopping for over one minute.
Taiwan lies right along the Pacific Ring of Fire. 90% of the world’s earthquakes happen in this Ring of Fire. Hualien last faced a deadly earthquake in 2018, which pulled down a historic hotel and many other buildings. The worst earthquake in Taiwan island in recent years happened on September 21st, 1999. Since it took place at midnight, its results were very serious—2,400 deaths and around 100,000 injuries. The earthquake was also felt in Shanghai and other provinces, including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Guangdong.
An earthquake may happen at any time. Although we can’t prevent an earthquake from happening, schools should hold earthquake drills often to teach students the ways to protect themselves. It’s very important for students to know what to do, where to be safe and who to call. Being prepared helps reduce disaster risks.

第二节(满分 20 分)
An Unforgettable Natural Disaster Experience
Last year, a powerful earthquake suddenly struck our small town without warning. I was reading books quietly in my room when the ground started shaking violently. Books fell off shelves and furniture shook heavily. I could even hear people screaming nervously outside. Immediately, I remembered the safety rules: drop, cover, and hold on. I hid under a strong table and carefully protected my head. After the shaking stopped, I helped my neighbors check for injuries and shared water supplies with them. This experience taught me that staying calm and acting quickly are crucial in emergencies. Now, I always keep an emergency bag ready and practice safety drills regularly. Natural disasters are unpredictable, but being well‑prepared can make a big difference to our safety.

【答案】

C.focus on what to do if you win
6.Which of the following can be put in the “______”?
A.Positive thinking is useless. B.But it can change you.
C.The world will never get better.
7.What is the best title for this passage?
A.How to Flip a Coin B.The Importance of Being Sad
C.How Happy Thoughts Change You

On December 18, 2023, a magnitude (震级) 6.2 earthquake hit Jishishan County in Linxia, Gansu Province. It was the most serious earthquake in the past nine years. Up to December 22nd, it had taken 117 lives and injured 781 people in Gansu Province.
