One possible version:
Seeing so many amazing works and performances, at first I felt my hands icy. My heart pounded wildly as I stood frozen behind my desk. “I can’t do this,” I whispered to myself, my voice trembling. “My English... it will fail me.” I was about to turn and flee from the scene when Jack appeared beside me. He gave my shoulder an encouraging squeeze and told me that I should remember to let my art speak, adding that my painting was so powerful and that I just needed to be myself .
Inspired by Jack’s words, I got the courage to introduce my painting to students around. I pointed to the lotus and explained, “It grows from mud but blooms clean. It symbolizes purity and new hope.” To my delight, they listened with genuine interest and asked thoughtful questions. Their eyes, wide with curiosity, seemed to beckon me to share more, which further fueled my confidence. At that moment, I realized a profound truth: true connection transcends perfect language. It is built on shared appreciation for beauty and courage, and my unique voice, however hesitant, deserved to be heard and belonged to this diverse community.

Text 1
M: Honey, I’m so glad the weekend’s drawing near. Any plans?
W: I just found there’s a newly-released movie. It’s been on my must-watch list.
M: Tell me its name. I’ll buy the tickets online right away and then we can head to the cinema after dinner.
Text 2
W: Excuse me, I’d like to make a cake at home. I need to buy some eggs and cream. Could you please tell me where they are located?
M: Sure. Eggs are next to the produce section, and cream is stored in the fridge.
W: Thanks.
Text 3
W: Ted, how did your Shanghai holiday go?
M: It didn’t live up to my expectations. Prior to my trip, the weather forecast indicated a mix of sunny and cloudy days. Yet, it rained throughout my stay there.
Text 4
M: I’d like to buy a computer with a price ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 yuan.
W: How about this one? It’s our best-selling product, 450 yuan less than the highest amount you’re willing to spend.
M: OK. I’ll take it.
Text 5
M: Maria, your singing is truly fantastic. Did you attend any singing classes or join a singing club?
W: I’d like to take some, yet I’m always busy and can’t find the time. So, I usually watch performances on TV and pick up singing skills on my own.
Text 6
W: Jack, have you watched the video Professor Smith asked us to view this morning?
M: Yes, I have. It’s mainly about news. What about you?
W: I watched it too, but I find some doesn’t really go into depth.
M: I don’t agree with you. It enables us to know what’s going on around us. And besides news, there is also some content on culture and lifestyle.
W: Hmm..., I still think it should be more educational, like including more reliable analysis or opinion pieces that get us thinking.
M: I get what you mean, but I suppose the primary purpose of such videos is to inform rather than educate.
Text 7
M: Wow, foreign visitors usually cannot use chopsticks so well but you can handle them so smoothly!
W: Thanks, sir. Two years ago, I settled in China with my parents. At first I didn’t know how to use chopsticks, but in my daily dinner, I have to use them every day. Is this your restaurant?
M: Yes, I just opened it two months ago. Do you live in this neighborhood?
W: You got it. I also work at an office building opposite here. I first visited your restaurant last week. Your food is delicious.
M: Thank you, Miss. I’m from Chengdu, and these dishes are from Sichuan, China. Next time you visit, I’ll prepare genuine local dishes for you.
Text 8
W: Mr. Hunter, welcome to Today’s Talk.
M: Thank you.
W: Would you mind me asking you some questions?
M: Of course not. Go ahead.
W: I heard that some people paid thousands of dollars for your art.
M: Yeah. And I hope that’s because my works deserve it and bring happiness to my fans.
W: Today, on your 50th birthday, can you share what inspires you?
M: The admiration from my fans fuels the creative fire within me.
W: It’s said that you were ill last year. Did that have an effect on your work?
M: Indeed. I was forced to rest for half a year. After that, I took up my brush again, although it did slow me down.
W: Any suggestions that you want to pass on to the young artists?
M: Yes. My art teacher once told me a very simple thing: to treasure every moment you have and paint it.
W: That’s true. Only those who love life and observe carefully can paint the most impressive pictures.
Text 9
W: Bob, I see various vegetables in your garden. Do you grow them to sell or do some experiments?
M: Neither. Growing vegetables helps me deal with the stress from work.
W: I haven’t planted anything in my garden yet. What vegetables do you recommend I start with?
M: You could try tomatoes. They’re a warm-season crop that grows well in spring and summer. They can be harvested within a short time.
W: OK. What other vegetables can I grow, like carrots or Chinese cabbages?
M: Carrots, but just be aware of two common issues—they need loose soil to grow straight, and carrot flies might lay eggs near their roots.
W: I see. Then can I plant carrots now?
M: Certainly. They grow well in cool and mild weather, so this time of year is perfect.
W: Great! There are so many vegetables I want to grow, but I’m not sure where to start.
M: You can come to my garden tomorrow, and I’ll give you more advice—like how to water the plants properly without harming the roots.
W: Thank you. See you tomorrow.
Text 10
M: Boys and girls! Today, we’re going to learn some knowledge about safety by taking part in an activity. Here we are at the LifeWise Safety Center. You can see that we’re in what looks like a tiny town, with shops, road signs, workers and vehicles. I want you to find a partner and start making your way around the model village, making sure that you do everything safely. Remember to look at ways to cross the road, and write down any dangers you see in your forms. When you have reached the other side of the road, please wait and I will lead you to the next part of the Safety Center. Guess what we’re going to find there? A fire engine and a fire fighter! We’re going to find out how the fire truck works, how much water it carries and what happens when the fire fighters go to work. As you explore, think about how these safety lessons will be applied to your everyday life. Try to think of some questions to ask, and if there’s time, you can take turns sitting in the fire truck!
A
根据Din Tai Fung (Los Angeles, CA)下的“but for xiaolongbao(soup dumplings), we go to Din Tai Fung”可知,Din Tai Fung供应小笼包。
Xi’an Famous Foods (New York City, NY)下的“Xi’an Famous Foods, a chainlet, rapidly expanded, opening seven shops in Manhattan and three in Brooklyn(西安名吃是一家连锁店,迅速扩张,在曼哈顿开了七家店,在布鲁克林开了三家店)”以及Sichuanese Restaurant (Seattle, WA)下的“Sichuanese Cuisine now includes two other locations.(川菜馆现在还有另外两家分店。)”
根据第一段中的“This was the very thing for Bita Ghassemi, a 32-year-old software engineer, who had been working long hours on a challenging project at a tech company in Bastrop, Texas. One time, after a particularly tiring and busy day at work, Ghassemi was in a rush to get home.”
根据第二段中的“She then went door-to-door in a nearby neighborhood, hoping to reach their owner”可知,Ghassemi挨家挨户地寻找小狗的主人,所以推测她最初的意图是帮狗狗们找到其主人。
C项“Love brings new hope.”
根据画线词上文“as by removing dirt and oil from our skin, it helps prevent skin infections”可知,洗澡能清除皮肤上的污垢和油脂,有助于预防皮肤感染,因此可以推测洗澡能帮助“减轻”或“抑制”体味,所以画线词应意为“减轻、抑制”,与“Reduces”意思相近。
通读全文可知,本文开篇以客观讨论引入;第四段分述液浴的益处和局限性,最后作者总结自己的观点“As a microbiologist, I uphold the practice of morning showers.”
根据第一段中的“the early Earth’s oxygen levels were about a million times lower than we now experience”可知,早期地球的氧气含量比我们现在经历的要低约一百万倍,这充分表明早期地球氧气匮乏。
根据第二段中的“A recent study led by Fatima Li-Hau...by examining iron-rich hot springs that have a similar chemistry to that of Earth’s ancient oceans”以及第三段中的“These iron-rich hot springs provide a unique natural laboratory to study microbial metabolism under early Earth-like conditions.”
根据第三段中的“Those five springs are naturally rich in ferrous iron(Fe2+). They are few and far between in today’s oxygen-rich world because ferrous iron quickly reacts with oxygen and turns into another ferric iron form (Fe3+).”
41. C【解析】根据上文“Leaving home for the very first time can be such an exciting experience.”
考查固定句型:“It’s no wonder that...”,意为“难怪……”。
45. C【解析】根据下文“When Ben stepped out of his room and saw the 51 faces all there for him, his eyes welled up. He was deeply moved by this 52 and heart-warming send-off.”
46. D【解析】根据下文“She did not want to be the 47 person to send Ben off and took the time to 48 quite a beloved crew.”
49. C【解析】根据上文“妈妈花时间召集了一群人”及下文“the neighborhood, close relatives, and even some of Ben’s childhood buddies”可知,妈妈召集的全是熟人,因此此处指熟知的朋友。
51. A 【解析】根据上文“the neighborhood, close relatives, and even some of Ben’s childhood buddies”可知,妈妈召集的全是熟人,所以全是熟悉的面孔。
55. B 【解析】根据上文“Ben, a young adult with ambition would step forward”及下文“unknown challenges”可知,Ben是一个有抱负的年轻人,所以他应是走出去准备迎接外界未知的挑战。
56. organization/organisation【解析】考查名词。

You can't predict what you'll encounter while driving down a road,especially a rural one.This
was the very thing for Bita Ghassemi,a 32-year-old software engineer, who had been working long
hours on a challenging project at a tech company in Bastrop,Texas. One time, after a particularly
tiring and busy day at work,Ghassemi was in a rush to get home. The sky had grown dark, and
the road was filled with noises. As she drove down the back road, she noticed something moving
ahead of her,but she couldn't identify them at first. As they got closer, she realized they were
puppies(小狗).
Unable to leave the hungry and thirsty pups behind,Ghassemi immediately offered them
water. She then went door-to-door in a nearby neighborhood, hoping to reach their owner, but her
search was fruitless.Although no one claimed the dogs,a kind resident provided some boxes.
Ghassemi carefully loaded the puppies into her car and transported them to a friend's house. There,
the dogs were refreshed with food, water, and a bath. After naming them Honey,Walnut,Tiger,
and Flip,Ghassemi posted a video online that same day, appealing for adopters. The video quickly
gained attention, receiving hundreds of comments within days.
Her efforts paid off remarkably.Just eight days after her post, all four puppies had found their
permanent homes.Honey, renamed Bloom, was the first to be adopted, within about 24 hours of
the video's posting, and now lives with two other puppies.Flip was next, reportedly spending his
first night in his new home sleeping soundly on a comfortable bed with a fan set to high.Tiger also

quickly caught an adopter's eye and is now happy in his new life.Walnut, later known as Oliver,
was cared for by Ghassemi until finally being adopted.
Given the poor condition the puppies were in when found, they might not have survived
without Ghassemi's devotion.This story,with its happy ending,stands as a powerful proof that a
single act of kindness can literally save a life.
24.What do we know about Ghassemi?
A.She was tied up in her work.
B.She hurried home on a regular basis.
C.She was heading an important project.D.She worked in an international company.

D.Loading them in a box.
26.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The adopters'commitment.
B.The puppies'adoption results.
C.The puppies'new living habits.
D.The process of finding owners.
27.What does Ghassemi's experience show?
A.Efforts pay off at last.

It's a long-debated question:Is it better to shower in the morning or at night?Morning shower
enthusiasts will say this is the obvious winner,as it helps you wake up and start the day fresh.
Night shower fans,on the other hand, will argue it's better to "wash the day away"and relax
before bed.But what does science say?As a microbiologist,I believe there's a clear answer.
Beyond personal preference regarding its timing, the importance of showering as a key part of a
daily routine can't be overstated,as by removing dirt and oil from our skin,it helps prevent skin
infections, and it also quells body odor()which is caused by sweat.
Although many of us think that body odor is caused by sweat,it's in fact produced by bacteria
(that live on the surface of our skin.Fresh sweat is,in reality, odorless. But skin bacteria-
specifically staphylococci-use sweat as a direct nutrient source. When they break down the sweat,
it releases a substance called thioalcohols which can lead to something smelly that we are familiar with.
During the day, your skin and hair collect pollutants like dust, sweat, and oil. While clothes
catch some of these, the rest can stick to your bedsheets.Sweat and oil also help bacteria that live
on your skin grow. These microbes()may move from your body to your bed at night.A
night shower can wash away some pollutants, sweat, and oil,so fewer end up in your bed.But you
still sweat at night, and skin microbes eat that sweat.By morning, you may have body odor and
have left microbes on your sheets. If you don't wash your sheets often, the benefits of a night
shower are reduced.Bacteria from the sheets can get back on your body while you sleep.
As a microbiologist,I uphold the practice of morning showers.Still, everyone has their own
preference. No matter when you shower, remember to wash your sheets at least once a week. This
removes sweat, bacteria, dead skin, and oil, helping you stay clean and healthy.
28.What does the underlined word "quells"in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Detects.
B.Reduces.
C.Mixes.
D.Transforms.
29.What is the actual cause of body odor?
A.Sweat itself.
B.Not showering frequently.
C.The clothes we wear.
D.Bacteria breaking down sweat.
30.How does the author develop paragraph 4?
A.By analyzing the long-term effects.B.By giving reliable examples.
C.By presenting benefits and limitations.D.By defining a novel concept.
31.What's the author's attitude toward shower timing?
A.Approving of night showers.
B.Doubtful about showering daily.
C.Objective regarding both options.
D.Supportive of morning showers.

Earth was not always the blue-green world we know today:the early Earth's oxygen levels
were about a million times lower than we now experience. There were no forests and no animals.
For ancient organisms, oxygen was poisonous, forcing life to rely on other substances for survival.
What did life look like at that time then?
A recent study led by Fatima Li-Hau(graduate student at ELSI at the time of the research)
explores this question by examining iron-rich hot springs that have a similar chemistry to that of
Earth's ancient oceans around the time of one of Earth's most dramatic changes.Their findings
suggest that early microbial communities used iron along with oxygen released by photosynthetic(
microbes, for energy, revealing a special ecosystem where life turned a waste product of one
organism into a new energy source before photosynthesis became dominant.
To answer this, the team studied five hot springs in Japan, which are rich in varied water
chemistries. Those five springs are naturally rich in ferrous iron(Fe2+).They are few and far
between in today's oxygen-rich world because ferrous iron quickly reacts with oxygen and turns into
another ferric iron form(Fe3+).But in these springs, the water still contains high levels of ferrous
iron, low levels of oxygen, and a near-neutral pH,conditions thought to be similar to parts of the
early Earth's oceans. These iron-rich hot springs provide a unique natural laboratory to study
microbial metabolism(微生物代谢)under early Earth--like conditions..They help us understand how
primitive microbial ecosystems may have been structured before the rise of plants, animals,or
significant atmospheric oxygen.
The research suggests a shift in our understanding of early ecosystems, showing that microbes
may have capitalized on energy from iron oxidation and oxygen produced by early phototrophs(
The study proposes that, similar to these hot springs, early Earth hosted ecosystems
were composed of diverse microbes. This research also expands our understanding of microbial
ecosystem function during a crucial period in Earth's history.
32.What can we learn from paragraph 1?
A.Early Earth was oxygen-poor.
B.Early Earth was blue and green.
C.Oxygen was essential for early life.
D.Many lives were dependent on forests.
33.What role do iron-rich hot springs play in this study?
A.Revealing a special ecosystem.
B.Providing evidence of ancient life.
C.Defending microbial communities.
D.Copying the oceanic environment of early Earth.
34.What leads to the studied hot springs rare today?
A.Low iron content.
B.Acidic pH conditions.
C.High oxygen levels.
D.Lack of microbial life.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Microbes Dominated Ancient Ecological Circle
B.Hot Springs Possess Early Geological Features
C.Microbes Represented Unknown Energy Source
D.Hot Springs Hold Clues to Early Earth's Microbes

Many of us experience periods of feeling lost or directionless in life.Such uncertainty may make
you feel uneasy sometimes.36 There are strategies you can adopt to go through these uncertain
times and find your way.
Pay attention to your natural gifts and interests.
The answers you uncover through reflection may have helped you realize your natural talents
and gifts.37 What do people often celebrate you for?It might be your ability to manage people
well,or perhaps your analytical brain that offers solutions more readily.Pay close attention to your
strengths and natural talents,as these can serve as useful clues toward a path that is in line with
who you really are.
38
Research shows perceived uncertainty can result in stress and anxiety. However, here's the
contradicting truth-learning to tolerate ambiguity()better can boost creativity, making
way for personal growth.Remind yourself,"This is temporary and I'm equipped to deal with it
until the answer comes to me.
Reflect on your purpose.
39 Seeking happiness may seem more important than finding one's purpose. However,
research suggests that living a purpose-driven,meaningful life is a fundamental human need that
influences our psychological and physical well-being,in addition to serving as a driving force.
Seek inspiration.
Look at people who inspire you towards a path that can achieve your goal to make a difference.
Whether they are public figures, your contemporaries or teachers, engaging with them or learning
their journey may bring you valuable insights and direction.40
A.Learn to accept the unknown.
B.Seek your life purpose and go for it.
C.We often confuse purpose with happiness.
D.What comes easily to you that others struggle with?
E.How are talents and gifts discovered in your youth?
F.This may help you gain clarity and take action to an extent.
G.However,it may also indicate the need for personal growth.

My first month at Oakwood International School felt like wandering through a thick and silent
fog.Sentences in English textbooks were confusing in my mind, and I struggled with unfamiliar
sounds. My first essay was returned with more red ink than black,a glaring(刺眼的)“C”
screaming failure at me.Each evening,I'd stare at my reflection in the window of my dorm room,
the gloomy, overcast sky mirroring the heaviness in my chest.
Then there was Jack.He was my lab partner. One afternoon,he burst into my room to
borrow notes and froze, his eyes wide.On my desk lay a half-finished ink painting-a picture I had
been working on to comfort my homesickness.
“Whoa!Did you paint this?”Jack shouted,his voice full of genuine awe..“It's incredible!The
lines are so...powerful yet graceful.
I listened,my cheeks warming."It's just...traditional Chinese painting.It is not a big deal."
“Not a big deal?”he cried.“This is amazing!You have a real gift,.Li.”His words were a
small, warm light in my fog.He started calling me,"The Silent Artist",and for the first time,I
didn't feel like making fun of me.
A few weeks later, posters announcing the Annual Cultural Fair appeared everywhere. The
school hall was charged with excitement and flooded with colorful flags from around the world. My
stomach ached at the thought of participating.
"You have to do it,"Jack came over to me and insisted, cornering me by the lockers."You can
showcase your paintings.Show everyone this part of you.
“I cannot,”I protested,panic rising.“My English is broken.How can I explain them?”
“Let the art speak,”he said firmly..
That night before the Annual Cultural Fair,I turned over in my bed.The thought of standing
in front of everyone to explain my paintings with my limited English filled me with great fright. But
then,Jack's words rang in my mind,a gentle reminder of my own talent and the support I had.I
must try it anyway. The next day I decided to take my painting of China's lotus()to the scene.
