When we communicate with people from countries around the world, it is really necessary for us to learn about different cultural customs and social rules. Good cross-cultural manners help us create a warm first impression and get on well with people from different cultural backgrounds (背景). As Grade Eight students, mastering these basic social rules makes us more polite and popular when we meet foreigners in daily life. It also helps us know more about the world and develop real and long-lasting friendships with foreign friends.
In China, people usually stand quite close to each other during face-to-face talks. When they meet someone new for the first time, they often shake hands gently and smile politely. Chinese people always care about both their friends and strangers, so they often ask about age, jobs or family life to show their true warmth and care. The Pipa and My Grandpa
When I was a little child, the most beautiful sound in the world to me was my grandpa playing the pipa. Every evening after dinner, he would sit on the wooden chair in the living room, take the pear-shaped instrument from its cloth case, and begin to play. The strings sang under his fingers, producing sounds that were sometimes cheerful, sometimes soft and peaceful.
Grandpa grew up in a small village. When he was a boy, a travelling musician visited the village once a year and played pipa stories for the villagers. Young grandpa was so attracted by the music that he would sit in the front row, not daring to move. At the age of 12, he saved enough pocket money from helping on the farm to buy an old pipa, and he taught himself to play by listening and copying.
Years later, Grandpa moved to the city to live with our family. He brought his pipa with him, but he played less often. He said that the busy city life made him feel he didn’t have the right mood for it. One weekend, I sat beside him and asked him to teach me a little. He was surprised at first, but then a gentle smile spread across his face.
After three months of lessons, I can now play a short folk song. Last Sunday, I played it for Grandpa while he was reading the newspaper. After I finished, he closed his eyes for a moment and said, “That sounds just like the old days.”
I realized that Grandpa’s pipa is not just an instrument. It carries the memories of his youth, the stories of the village, and a peace that life in the city cannot take away.
24.What is true about Grandpa’s first pipa?
A.He received it as a gift from a travelling musician.
B.He bought it with money earned from farm work.
C.He found it in an old wooden case in the village.
D.He borrowed it from a music teacher every weekend.
25.Why did Grandpa play the pipa less often after moving to the city?
A.He was too busy working in the city to find time for it.
B.He thought that city people did not like traditional instruments.
C.The busy city made it hard for him to feel in the right mood.
D.The strings on his old pipa were broken and could not be repaired.
26.What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A.The writer has become a skilled pipa player after just one month.
B.The writer’s music made Grandpa recall memories of the past.
C.Grandpa finally decided to teach the writer only for money.
D.Grandpa lost all interest in playing the pipa after moving.
27.The writer wrote the passage mainly to ________.
A.explain how to teach yourself a traditional instrument
B.compare city life with village life in China
C.show how the pipa connects three generations in the family
D.tell a personal story about the importance of an instrument

For most people, graduation is an exciting day. But my graduation day was not.
I remember that weekend two years ago. Family and friends had traveled from across the country to watch our class walk across that stage. But like everyone else in my graduating class, I had watched the economy turn from bad to worse in my fourth year of university. We graduates had degrees, but very few job opportunities. I knew that the next day I would no longer have a place to call home.
I knew my small university town couldn’t offer me any opportunities, so I drove to southern California to find work. But what I thought would take a week lasted for two weeks, and then four weeks, and I found myself in the same spot I had been in before.
You know that feeling when you wake up and you are full of fear? Fear something you can’t control. You hope that everything that has happened to you so far is just a bad dream.
I decided to write a book. Something about putting words on a page made everything seem a little clearer—a little brighter. Something about writing gave me hope. If you really want something, sometimes a little hope is all you need!
I turned my scary feelings into a children’s book—about a surprising hero who simply refused to give up his dream.
Then one day, without a writing degree or contacts in the writing world—just a lot of hard work—I was offered a publishing deal for my first book! After that, things slowly began to fall into place. I was offered a second book deal. Then, a few months later, I got an interview with a big company and got a good job.
28.What was the cloud over the author’s head?
A.Her family and friends didn’t come. B.She got a bad score in her senior year.
C.She didn’t get her university degree. D.She worried about how to make a living.
29.Which of the following things happened last?
A.The author gave up her dream. B.The author published her first book.
C.The author began to write a children’s book. D.The author went to California to look for a job.
30.Which of the following sentences can be put into the blank?
A.Luckily, I had money. B.I had to find another way.
C.So what did I do to stay healthy? D.I remembered what my teacher had taught me.
31.What does the author try to tell us?
A.Don’t fear what the future will be like. B.Try to get as much education as we can.
C.Life will be improved if we just hold on. D.We might not get the dream job we want at first.

A recent report from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation) warns that using technology in classes may not help as much as many people believe. 32 And students mustn’t use smartphones in classrooms.
Over the last 20 years, we have seen more and more technology in schools. In many places, it’s normal for students to look up information on the Internet rather than use books.
UNESCO admits that technology can help in many ways. 33 And it can help teachers explain difficult ideas and it can also help students who have special needs. But UNESCO says technology can also be very distracting (让人分心的). What children need to learn is to live both with and without technology.
The new report is to improve how we use technology in education. The report says that technology can be helpful, but it shouldn’t be the focus. 34 “Too much attention to technology in education usually comes at a high cost,” the report says.
35 Working with other classmates also helps students learn. UNESCO says that most schools should spend more money on things like books, classrooms, and teachers.
A.The report suggests that the best way to learn is still to work closely with teachers.
B.Instead, technology should only be a supporting role.
C.And it can provide us with a chance to get to know the world.
D.It can allow students to learn in ways that are more interesting.
E.The report suggests teachers should use technology less in schools.

第三节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
When I graduated from junior high school three years ago, I thought I would never miss the busy and tiring school days. But now, I often look back on those times with a warm smile. I remember the morning reading sessions when we all read aloud together in the classroom. I remember the school sports meeting where we cheered loudly for our classmates, even when they were far behind. I also remember the late nights when we studied together for exams, sharing snacks and encouraging each other. My classmates and I used to help each other whenever someone was in trouble. We had a lot of fun even though we were busy with schoolwork.
Last month, I went back to my old school. The classroom where I studied was still there, but the desks and chairs were new. My old head teacher told me that many new students were studying there now. I walked around the school and found that the playground was bigger and had new running tracks. I sat on the bench where I used to sit with my best friend during breaks. I felt so nostalgic. I realize that the past is an important part of my life. It shapes who I am today and teaches me to cherish the present.

C
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.B 31.C
【导语】本文主要讲了作者毕业后如何度过困难时期找到一份好工作的故事。
【详解】28.根据第二段中“We graduates had degrees, but very few job opportunities. I knew that the next day I would no longer have a place to call home.”可推断,作者头上的乌云是担心如何谋生。
29.根据最后一段中“Then one day, without a writing degree or contacts in the writing world—just a lot of hard work—I was offered a publishing deal for my first book!”可知,作者出版了第一本书发生在其他选项所述事件之后。
30.根据第五段中“I decided to write a book. Something about putting words on a page made everything seem a little clearer—a little brighter. Something about writing gave me hope.”可推断,空格前文描述作者陷入无法掌控的恐惧、希望糟糕的经历只是噩梦的困境,空格后文引出作者决定写书的行动,空格处需要起到承上启下的过渡作用,要表达的是“我必须找到另外的出路”。
