Writing an email of advice
Writing
Writers needed for advice column!
The school magazine's advice column, Teen to Teen, needs more writers to respond to students’ emails. Are you good at giving advice? If so, please consider joining the Teen to Teen team now!
1. The Teen to Teen writer has replied to Troubled_55. What did he/she include in the email? Read the email and label the different parts.
a Give your advice b Express sympathy
c Show that you understand the problem d Wish them good luck
To: Troubled_55
Subject: Advice from Teen to Teen
Dear Troubled_55,
I’m sorry to hear that your sister is driving you mad.
It is not always easy to share a room with a younger brother or sister. When I was a teenager, I was in the same situation as you. I had to share a room with my younger brother, and he often made a lot of noise when I was studying. I always hated it when that happened.
My advice is that you try to help your sister grow up. You need to teach her that rules are important. This takes time, so you have to be patient. Ask her to play the piano only When you're not studying, let her borrow your things only if she asks you first. Perhaps she just wants more attention from you. Try spending some time with her every day, and you'll both learn how to live happily with each other.
I hope these suggestions will be helpful.
Best wishes,

To: Dinosaur_boy
Subject: Don't worry! You'll do great!
Dear Dinosaur_boy,
I am sorry to hear that you are feeling nervous about starting your new school. I completely understand your worries. Moving to a new place and starting a new school is never easy.
However, there are some things you can do to feel better.
First of all, be confident! Nobody knows you in the new school, so you have a great chance to make a fresh start. Why not try to be the first to say hello to your classmates? You might find that they are also waiting to make new friends.
What's more, you can focus on things you love. Joining a school club, such as a basketball or cooking club, is a great way to hit it off with people who share the same interests.
Don't worry. Being shy is not a problem. Just be yourself and give it some time. I hope you will make many new friends soon.
Best wishes,
Teen to Teen

Dear Alice,
I am writing to tell you some ways on how to release pressure. I read your Moments. And I just want to remind you pressure is a serious problem in our life, nobody is an exception.
I know you are under too much pressure. Maybe you don’t get on well with your classmates. Maybe your parents expect too much which makes you feel stressed out. Maybe you worry about the mid-term exam because of the lack of confidence.
Here are some suggestions for you to release pressure. I think you can communicate with your classmates and parents. Besides, I suggest taking part in more school activities. It's also helpful. Of course, you need to relax yourself on weekends by hanging out with friends, seeing a movie or having a meal outside and so on.
All in all, less pressure, better life! Best wishes to you!
Yours,
Mandy

Dear Simon,
I am sorry to hear that you have some difficulties in your life. I totally understand your feelings as lots of Grade 9 students face the same troubles.
For your heavy study pressure, you can take regular exercise like jogging after class. It eases your nervous mood greatly. Besides, making a practical study plan stops you from staying up late and feeling worn out.
As for the misunderstanding with your parents, sit down to share your true thoughts patiently. You may also talk about your daily stress with them. They will gradually learn about your situation and give you more support.
Don’t stay anxious all the time. Small changes will bring nice results sooner or later.
Good luck with everything!

Dear Peter,
Don’t worry about your study too much. First, you should learn to relax. I think doing some sports is good for you. Listening to music is also a good way to relax. And I think it’s necessary to have a healthy eating habit. Remember to have breakfast every morning. It can provide you with enough energy to learn for the whole morning. What’s more, you’d better not stay up too late so as to have enough sleep. It will help you remain active during the day. Finally, you can talk with your friends, parents or teachers often. Tell them about your thoughts. Try to get help from them.
I hope you will be full of energy and learn better.
Yours,
Zhang Yang
Thank you!
