As he got closer, he realized it was not a bag but a bald eagle(鹰). He stopped his car at the roadside, and carefully walked into the roadway to hold up the bird with his hands. "It didnˈt resist(反抗) at all. I had my arms crossed. Its head was more or less lying on my arm. It was not in great shape." Two women pulled over after seeing the 52-year-old with the bird and called the police, who contacted animal control expert Jim Horton from QualityPro Pest & Wildlife Services. He said itˈs the second time in the last few months that his company has been contacted to help an eagle in trouble. Horton said itˈs great what Fear did for the bird, calling it "a once-in-a-lifetime thing". Missy Runyan, from the Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center Incorporated, an organization in nearby Hunter, said the bird was first thought to be hit by a car but there was no wound. It was, however, suffering from lead poisoning(铅中毒), which influences its eyesight. "Itˈs likely that it hit a tree or something with its wing, leaving it grounded," said Runyan, whoˈs been taking care of injured eagles for the past 15 years. Runyan said a wildlife officer was actually looking for the eagle after someone had called earlier in the day but it could not be found. She realized it was the same bird after the other call came in about it. Runyan, who is treating seven eagles now, said the infection (感染) in the eagleˈs wing is being treated and it should be good to fly away in about a month and a half. 24.What did Fear regard the bald eagle as at first? ( ) A. A wing. B. A ball. C. A bag. D. A toy car. 25.What did the two women do after seeing Fear? ( ) A. They took care of the bald eagle. B. They asked the police for help. C. They called an animal control expert. D. They sent the bird to an animal center. 26.Whatˈs the main idea of paragraph 3? ( ) A. What Runyan did for a living. B. The results of lead poisoning. C. The knowledge of saving eagle. D. What happened to the eagle. 27.How is Runyan helping the eagle? ( ) A. By treating its infection. B. By training it to fly. C. By learning where it came from. D. By reporting it to a wildlife officer. C Getting a high grade in an exam depends partly on how much you can remember. So, improving memory is essential to success in studying. But is there anything that we can do about it? One solution might be walking backwards. According to a new study published in the Journal of Cognition, walking backwards, whether doing it really or just imagining it, can boost(增强) the brainpower in the short term. In the study, 114 volunteers were asked to watch a video in which a woman had her bag stolen. Then they answered 20 questions about the details shown in the video. Ten minutes after watching the video, the volunteers were divided into three groups. The first two groups were told to move forwards or backwards 10 metres while the third group was asked to stay still on the same point. The researchers found that the backwards-walking group got two more correct answers on average than the other two groups. This suggests that a relationship between the concepts(概念) of time and space is essential to the way our minds form memories. When we walk backwards, everything we learn becomes strange to us. "This forces the brain to think in a different way—itˈs a rewiring and changes the focus," US neuropsychologist(神经心理学家) Christine Weber told Forbes. It almost always means that our brain needs to be more active and alert in the limited time. Naturally, our short-term memory will be improved significantly. Apart from improving our memory, walking backwards also plays an important role in physical health, especially fitness. A study published in Journal of Biomechanics in 2012 found that backward walking puts less strain and requires a smaller range of movements from the knee joints(膝关节). Thus, there’s less pressure and pain in the knees. In addition, walking backwards, compared to forward walking, is more challenging. It requires you to use muscles and movements that you probably rarely use, making it a perfect way to change your exercise routine for greater fitness gains. Meanwhile, by making people put in extra effort, it naturally burns more fat and calories. 28.Which group of people performed best in the memory test? A. The staying-still group. B. The forwards-walking group. C. The imaginary-walking group. D. The backwards-walking group. 29.In what way does walking backwards benefit people’s physical health? A. It can make people slim. B. It can reduce peopleˈs stress. C. It can strengthen peopleˈs joints. D. It can make people more energetic. 30.What do we know about backwards walking? A. It follows our exercise routine. B. It limits peopleˈs thinking time. C. It directs our focus to important details. D. It makes peopleˈs brain more active and alert. 31.Whatˈs the writerˈs purpose in writing Paragraph 4? A. To add another aspect of the topic. B. To support the result of the research. C. To sum up the main idea of the text. D. To provide some background information. D  Not long ago,you had to physically hand over cash to buy something. You witnessed it exit your wallet. You sensed it.But with payment services Klarna or Clearpay, you can now pay for a new phone in three installments (分期付款) and barely notice the difference. This isn't just a shopping habit;it's a reflection of how we relate to money today. We are becoming increasingly free of the emotional burden of spending. Additionally, our mental health is being profoundly affected by this quiet shift. The popularity of Buy Now,Pay Later (BNPL) plans has soared. They promise freedom and flexibility, but the ease of use can trick our minds. When payment is divided into smaller payments,we are wired to feel less emotionally tired.Although the £15 payments seem insignificant, they quickly add up.Psychologists found that when the act of paying is separated from the act of purchasing,we experience less "pain of paying",which makes us more likely to overspend. In societies where digital credit is easily accessible but financial education is limited, this behaviour can fall into lasting debt.Stress over money doesn't stay in the bank.It follows us into our homes and even our sleep.Researches have shown that personal debt is strongly associated with depression and anxiety. That's why we need to talk about money more often — not just how to make it,but how we feel about it — in families, schools, workplaces, and therapy rooms.Therapists should be able to ask about financial stress with confidence.Financial education ought to be treated as essential in schools.Additionally,we should normalize debt-related conversations to relieve people's feelings of shame.Financial stress can make you feel helpless. But by addressing the emotional side of money and building healthier habits,we can move from crisis to confidence. We live in a world where money is invisible. But the emotional burden it takes is very real.If we start noticing that cost,we might finally treat money not only as a resource, but as something deeply psychological. 32.What phenomenon does the author point out in paragraph 1? ______ A. Klarna and Clearpay help people save money. B. Digital payments are now relatively preferred. C. Invisible payments have improved mental health. D. Installments ease the emotional spending burden. 33.What may BNPL result in? ______ A. Improved financial knowledge. B. Easy access to digital credit. C. Overspending and long-term debt. D. Decrease of small-amount expenses. 34.How can we build healthier financial habits? ______ A. Value financial education. B. Hide feelings of shame. C. Mask people's financial stress. D. Highlight debt-related problems. 35.What can be a suitable title for the text? ______ A. Cash Shopping:The Healthy Way of Consumption B. Money's Emotional Cost:Beyond Invisible Payments C. BNPL:A New Approach to Boost Consumer Spending D. Financial Education:The Core to Cutting Expenses 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Have a Successful Teenage Life     Everyone dreams of success in their life, don't they? Like many other students, I was eager to get involved in various activities and make the most of my college life. So, when I was accepted into our school’s famous chorus (合唱团) program, I was over the moon. The prospect of going on an international tour to China and other Asian countries was just amazing, and I was determined to do everything I could to be a good member of the chorus. One of our first performances was scheduled at the city hall about an hour away from campus. I had been looking forward to it for weeks. But that very morning, disaster struck. I woke up late and realized with horror that I had missed the bus that was supposed to take us there. My heart sank. I felt panic rising in me. I thought to myself, “This is the end of everything.” The thought of missing the international tour because of my mistake made me feel really terrible. I didn't have a car, and I didn't know anyone nearby who could drive me there. I was at a loss as to what to do. So, I just wandered out into the hallway, feeling really upset and kind of crying silently. That's when Pam, my neighbor across the dormitory, came out to see what was wrong. Pam and I had known each other for two months, but our relationship had been rocky. A lot of that was my fault. I had just arrived at college and made some freshman friends. We were having so much fun, running up and down the halls, playing practical jokes on each other and laughing loudly. We didn't really think about how all that noise might affect others on the same floor. Pam would ask us to be quiet because she was trying to sleep or needed to study. We would stop for a while, but soon we would go back to our usual fun. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 So, that morning, I was a bit embarrassed to see Pam who came to check on me first. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ She drove me to the city hall, right before the chorus began to perform. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
