At just 19 years old, King Tutankhamen was still a teenager when he died in 1322 B.C. He ruled over all of Egypt for ten years, the last king of a powerful family that had ruled Egypt for centuries. After his death, the body of King Tut (as Tutankhamen is usually known today) was placed in a luxurious, gold-filled tomb. There, he lay forgotten until the tomb’s eventual discovery in 1922. Although we know a lot about his life, the reason for King Tut’s death at such a young age has remained a mystery, with murder the most extreme possibility. Now, improved X-ray technology and DNA testing are offering new clues into the life and death of the boy-king. Discovered and Damaged
When British archeologist Howard Carter opened King Tut’s tomb, it was still full of gold and other amazing items. Carter spent months carefully recording the treasures. When he and his team then attempted to remove King Tut’s mummy, they found that it had become attached to its solid gold coffin. Unfortunately, they did a great deal of damage to the mummy while removing it.Theories about Tutankhamen's Death
In 1968, archeologists conducted an examination of King Tut’s mummy using simple X-ray technology. Three important discoveries led to various theories about his death.
The X-rays showed that bones in Tut's chests were missing. Some guessed the damage was caused by a war injury or an accident.
There was a small hole in the back of the skull, and pieces of bone inside it, causing many to believe that Tut was killed by a blow to the back of the head. Was he murdered by people wanting to take control of Egypt?
A serious fracture was discovered on Tut’s left leg. Tut was hurt a few hours before his death. This could have been the result of an accident. Could an infection from the injury have killed Tut?A Closer Look
In 2005, scientists under the direction of Egyptian archeologist Zahi Hawass used new and more effective X-ray technology to study the mummy. They discovered that the damage to Tut’s chest was caused by Howard Carter, and the hole in Tut’s skull was made when embalmer were preparing the body for burial. While this ruled out one theory, that of murder, it still doesn’t tell us exactly how he died.
Then, in 2008, Hawass and his team analyzed Tut’s DNA.They found that he suffered from flat feet as well as a bone disease that would have made it difficult for him to walk. When they analyzed the DNA of the mummies in other tombs nearby, they made some shocking discoveries. They found Tut’s father and mother, who had similar DNA, were actually brother and sister. The DNA they passed on to Tut may have left him highly vulnerable to disease. Did an infection that started in his fractured leg- added to the bone disease—cause his death? No one knows for sure. But Hawass and his team hope they will someday have an answer to this age-old mystery.

(C)
The earliest discovered cave paintings date back to the Upper Paleolithic (旧石器时代晚期) period. We might expect that they would be simply made, but the cave paintings of Spain and southern France show a high degree of skill. So do the cave paintings in southern Africa. Some of those appear to have been painted as much as 28, 000 years ago, which suggests that painting in Africa is as old as that in Europe. The early Australians may have painted on the walls of rock shelters at least 30, 000 years ago.
The researchers identified three principal locations of paintings in the caves of western Europe: in obviously inhabited (有人居住的) rock shelters and cave entranced; in galleries near the inhabited areas of caves; and in the inner reaches of caves, whose difficulty of access has been considered as a sign that magical-religious activities were performed there.
The subjects of the paintings are mostly animals. The paintings rest on bare walls, with no decoration. Perhaps, like many contemporary peoples, Upper Paleolithic men believed that the drawing of a human image could cause death of injury, and if that was their belief, it might explain why human figures are rarely found in cave art. Another explanation for the focus on animals might be that these people sought to improve their luck at hunting.
The particular symbolic significance of the cave paintings in south western France is more clearly revealed by the results of a study. The data suggest that the animals in the cave paintings were mostly the ones that the painters preferred for meat. For example, wild cattle and horses are found more often than we would expect by chance, probably because they were larger and heavier (meatier)than other animals in the environment. In addition, in the paintings there are mostly animals that the painters may have feared the most because of their size, speed, natural weapons such as horns. That is, mammoths (猛犸) are drawn more often than deer.
71.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Painting in Europe is not so old as that in southern Africa.
B.The cave paintings in southern Africa reflect ancient people’s super skill.
C.The early Australians drew cave paintings later than the early Europeans.
D.Most of the cave paintings of Spain and southern France were simply drawn.
72.Where can we find galleries in western Europe?
A.Close to the inhabited areas of caves. B.In the inner reaches of caves.
C.In a place too far from caves. D.At cave entranced.
73.What does the third paragraph reveal about the cave paintings?
A.The subjects mainly include plants and animals.
B.Human figures are usually found in cave art.
C.The paintings were drawn on bare walls.
D.They were carefully and well decorated.
74.Why are the subjects of the paintings not humans?
A.Because of a belief that the drawing of a human image could cause death or injury.
B.Because a human was too difficult to draw for Upper Paleolithic men.
C.Because Upper Paleolithic men had ‘ such skills to draw a human.
D.Not mentioned.
75.Which might NOT be the reason why mammoths were often drawn in the paintings?
A.They were very fast. B.They were quite large.
C.They were rather tasty. D.They had natural weapons.
71.B 72.A 73.C 74.A 75.C
根据第一段“We might expect that they would be simply made, but the cave paintings of Spain and southern France show a high degree of skill. So do the cave paintings in southern Africa. (我们可能会认为它们是简单制作的,但西班牙和法国南部的洞穴壁画显示出高超的技艺。非洲南部的洞穴壁画也是如此。)”可知,非洲南部的洞穴壁画反映了古人高超的技艺。故选B。
72.细节理解题。根据第二段“in galleries near the inhabited areas of caves (在洞穴居住区附近的画廊中)”可知,我们在西欧的洞穴居住区附近发现了画廊。故选A。
根据第三段“The paintings rest on bare walls, with no decoration. (这些画作在光秃秃的墙上,没有任何装饰。)”可知,第三段揭示了洞穴壁画是画在光秃秃的墙上。故选C。
74.细节理解题。根据第三段“Perhaps, like many contemporary peoples, Upper Paleolithic men believed that the drawing of a human image could cause death of injury, and if that was their belief, it might explain why human figures are rarely found in cave art. (也许,就像许多同时代的人一样,旧石器时代晚期的人认为绘制人类形象会导致死亡或受伤,如果这是他们的信念,这也许可以解释为什么在洞穴艺术中很少发现人类形象。)”可知,画作的主题不是人类,因为他们相信绘制人类形象可能会导致死亡或受伤。故选A。
根据最后一段“For example, wild cattle and horses are found more often than we would expect by chance, probably because they were larger and heavier (meatier) than other animals in the environment. In addition, in the paintings there are mostly animals that the painters may have feared the most because of their size, speed, natural weapons such as horns.
If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them. If you don’t, you may get lost. If you do get lost, this is what you should do.
Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends. Let them find you. You can help them to find you by staying in one place.
There is another way to help your friends or other people to find you. Give them a signal (信号) shouting or whistling (吹口哨) three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep on shouting or whistling, always three times together. When people hear you, they will give two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a small room with branches.
What should you do if you get hungry or need drinking water? You would have to leave your little branch room to look for something to eat and drink. Don’t just walk away. Pick up small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back.
The most important thing to do when you are lost — stay in one place.
76.If you get lost in the forest, you should walk everywhere to find your friends as soon as possible.
77.You can keep on shouting or whistling always three times together for help.
78.When you hear two shouts or whistles, you know that people will come to help you.
79.You can’t go anywhere even when you feel thirsty or hungry.

与所给表述“If you get lost in the forest, you should walk everywhere to find your friends as soon as possible.
77.根据第三段“Give them a signal shouting or whistling three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help. (给他们一个信号,喊叫或吹口哨三次。停止。然后再喊或吹三次口哨。任何发出三次的信号都是求救信号。)”可知,如果在森林里迷路,要不断大声喊或吹口哨,一遍做三次。与所给表述“You can keep on shouting or whistling always three times together for help. (你可以不停地叫喊或吹口哨,总要同时喊三次来寻求帮助。)”相符。故填T。
78.根据第四段“When people hear you, they will give two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a call for help. (当人们听到你时,他们会发出两声喊叫或两声口哨。当一个信号发出两次时,这是对呼救的回应。)”可知,回应信号是两声,如果这种信号给出两次,就是有人来救你了。与所给表述“When you hear two shouts or whistles, you know that people will come to help you. (当你听到两声喊叫声或口哨声时,你就知道有人会来帮助你。)”相符。故填T。
79.根据第六段“You would have to leave your little branch room to look for something to cat and drink. (你得离开你的小树枝室去找点喝的。)”可知,当你感觉饿或渴时,可以离开你当前的地方。与所给表述“You can’t go anywhere even when you feel thirsty or hungry. (即使你感到口渴或饥饿,你也不能去任何地方。)”不符。故填F。
80.根据第六段“Pick up small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back. (捡起小的树枝,在你走路的时候放下,这样你就能找到回去的路。)”可知,沿途找一些小树枝丢在路上,就可以找到回去的路。与所给表述“You can find your way back to your branch room easily with the help of your friends. (在朋友的帮助下,你可以很容易地找到回去的路。)”不符。故填F。
第三节:简答 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
请根据以下短文内容,回答短文后面的问题,答题回答词数不得超过10个单词。
Traveling to another country is exciting and fun. But if you don’t learn about local traditions, your trip may get into trouble. To help stop things like that, I list some cultural taboos (禁忌) in several countries. Let’s take a look and then you can have a great trip there.
Mexico
In Mexico, bringing an expensive gift to someone’s home is a no-no. It could be seen as a bribe (贿赂). For local people, some simple things like flowers are good gifts. But you shouldn’t take along red flowers, because in Mexican culture, they symbolize death and can be connected with witchcraft (巫术).
The US
Americans have a tradition of tipping (给小费). You can tip waiters, taxi drivers, hotel doormen…nearly anyone with a service job.
Pay attention when you talk with Americans. Questions like “How old are you?” may be common between friends. But as tourists in the US, it is not polite to ask people’s age.
Britain
British people are known for queuing (排队). From the supermarket to the underground, queues are very common in Britain. Usually, it takes a British person six months of their life in queues. If you jump the queue in Britain, you may make them angry.
Japan
You should never wear shoes indoors in Japan. When visiting someone’s home, it is rude to enter with shoes on. Shoes should be taken off at the door and replaced with indoor slippers (拖鞋). This is also the same when you try clothes on in a clothes shop. You should take off your shoes before going into the fitting room (试衣间). There are indoor shoes prepared for customers inside.
81.What are good gifts for local people in Mexico?

82.Why shouldn’t tourists ask people’s age in the US?
