How would you describe the glass? Half empty or half full? If your answer was “half full”, then prepare yourself for an exciting life in which anything is possible. If you said “half empty” on the other hand, you might just fail to do something or be worried about your life. It may sound crazy, but that’s the power of positive (积极的) thinking! Experts believe that positive thinking has several important benefits. First, it can make us feel happy about our life. If someone focuses on all of the good things that they have, he is much less likely to feel bad about his life. Compare that to someone who’s always talking about the bad side of any situation, the positive thinker will be the happier of the two. Positive thinking can also improve our health. One study showed that it takes shorter to recover from diseases for people with positive thinking while it takes longer for those who are always in depressing feeling. Also, people who are highly stressed are easier to catch a cold and the flu. Another benefit is that positive thinking can influence the world around us. In the 2006 book The Secret, author Rhonda Byrne describes a “law of attraction”. This law is according to the idea that positive thinking attracts positive things. If you think about a new sports car, you might just get one. Positive thinking may improve our minds, bodies, and even the world, but how do we get started? According to Richard Wiseman, an expert of psychology (心理学), the best way to change how we think is to change our behavior. He believes that if someone practices smiling every day, he or she will think happier thoughts. 66.What does it mean if you describe a half glass of water “half full”? A.You may fail to do something. B.Your life may sound crazy. C.You may have an exciting life. D.Your life may be impossible. 67.What does the underlined word “depressing” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Bright. B.Similar. C.Upset. 。故选B。 (C) Tomatoes are red, the sky is blue, and bananas are yellow, right? Well, not exactly — color does not really exist. What exists is light. Light is real, but color is not. It is our brain that creates color. We’re told to trust our eyes, but our eyes have little to do with vision (视觉) . We see much more with our brains. You sometimes see different colors because your brain thinks they have a different meaning. The brain does this by looking at what’s around the object. Here is an example. If you see a person wearing a white shirt against different backgrounds, your brain might express the same white color differently. Suppose this person stands in front of a bright yellow background, your brain might think the white shirt is more like gray. If the person moves to a dark blue background, the same white shirt might appear closer to a brighter color. Color is created according to our past experiences, and sometimes there are optical illusions (视错觉). That is because your brain includes the recent history of what you saw, at least for a brief time. But if you watch the thing for a longer time, your brain may forget the recent history and see the real color. This raises the question: Do you see what I see? The answer, in short, is no. Our past and present experiences are different. None of us even sees the world as it really is, but as a meaning that comes from our own experiences. It’s clear that seeing is not always believing. 71.What is real according to the writer? A.Light. B.Mind. C.Meaning. D.Color. 72.Why does the writer give an example in Paragraph 2? A.To make the passage longer. B.To make a comparison. C.To support the idea. D.To show a problem. 73.What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us? A.Color is influenced by the background of an object. B.Color comes from our past experiences. C.Color is changing all the time. D.White is the lightest color. 74.Which word is close to the underlined word “brief”? A.Hard. B.Simple. C.Quick. D.Short. 75.Which can be a proper title for the passage? A.Does Color Stay the Same? B.Is Seeing Really Believing? C.Do You See What I See? D.Is Color a Recent History? 根据第一段“What exists is light. Light is real, but color is not. 根据第二段“You sometimes see different colors because your brain thinks they have a different meaning. The brain does this by looking at what’s around the object. Here is an example. 根据第三段“Color is created according to our past experiences, and sometimes there are optical illusions. 根据第三段“That is because your brain includes the recent history of what you saw, at least for a brief time. But if you watch the thing for a longer time ... 根据最后一段“None of us even sees the world as it really is, but as a meaning that comes from our own experiences. It’s clear that seeing is not always believing. N"。 What invention could you not live without? A few years ago, a survey asked adults (成人) and teenagers to choose which of five things they “couldn’t live without”. The choices were the microwave oven (微波炉), cell phone, personal computer, car and toothbrush (牙刷). Believe it or not, the toothbrush got the first place. Nearly half the adults and one-third of the teenagers said they could not live without a toothbrush. I guess when you think about ways people cleaned their teeth before toothbrushes were invented, you might not want to live without your toothbrush, either. Would you want to chew (咀嚼) on a stick or bird feather (羽毛)? How about cleaning your teeth with a stick and salt? We can thank William Addis for the first mass-produced toothbrushes. Addis took a bone and made small holes in it. He tied some bristles (刷子毛) together and put them into the holes he had made in the bone. He began selling these around the year 1780 in England. Soon he became a rich man. Over 150 years went by before American really picked up the brushing habit. In World War Ⅱ, soldiers had been taught to brush their teeth every day. They brought the habit home with them. That’s good news for our teeth! 76.Cell phone is one of the inventions you couldn’t live without according to the passage. 77.People had used the bone to clean their teeth before toothbrushes were invented. 78.William Addis became a rich man, and he gave the money to the poor. 79.We can thank William Addis for the first mass-produced toothbrushes. 80.In World War Ⅱ, soldiers had been taught to brush their shoes every day. 根据第一段中“A few years ago, a survey asked adults (成人) and teenagers to choose which of five things they “couldn’t live without”. The choices were the microwave oven ( 微波炉 ), cell phone, personal computer, car and toothbrush (牙刷). 与所给表述“Cell phone is one of the inventions you couldn’t live without according to the passage. 77.根据第三段中“Addis took a bone and made small holes in it. He tied some bristles (刷子毛) together and put them into the holes he had made in the bone. 与所给表述“People had used the bone to clean their teeth before toothbrushes were invented. 78.根据第三段中“He began selling these around the year 1780 in England. Soon he became a rich man. 可知,他成了富人,但并未提到表述的“William Addis became a rich man, and he gave the money to the poor. 。故填NG。 79.根据第三段中“We can thank William Addis for the first mass-produced toothbrushes. My family and I don’t need too much — just a house and some warm food.” The King wasn’t happy with the reply. He told it to an advisor (顾问). After hearing the story, the advisor said, “The servant hasn’t joined the 99 Club.” “What’s the 99 Club?” the King asked. The advisor replied, “If you want to understand the 99 Club, put 99 gold coins in a bag and leave it near the servant’s house.”    The bag of coins made the servant excited. After counting several times, he thought there must be the 100th coin. So he decided to work harder to earn that 100th gold coin. From that day, he stopped singing while he worked and became angry easily.     The advisor told the King, “The servant has joined the 99 Club. The club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never content (满足的), because they always want more.”     We can be happy, but we want more! We lose our happiness. A.It can make us feel happy about our life. B.It can improve our study. C.It can influence the world around us. D.It may improve our minds. (C) Tomatoes are red, the sky is blue, and bananas are yellow, right? One day, the King saw a servant who was singing happily while he worked. He asked the servant, “Why are you so happy?” The man replied, “I’m nothing but a servant. We lose our sleep, peace and happiness for our growing needs and desires.
