In 2017, the new 480-kilometre Mombasa–Nairobi railway was opened. Before then, the only transport links between Mombasa (Kenya’s main port) and Nairobi (Kenya’s capital) were rough roads and an old railway line built in 1901. The old trains were very slow. It took 10 hours to get to Nairobi from Mombasa by train.
However, the new railway, built with China’s help, has already cut the travel time between Mombasa and Nairobi to about four hours for passengers. Now, more than two million people use it every year.
Local Kenyans have benefited a lot from the new railway. It helps local people make more money, makes business trips easy, and transports fresh food quickly to supermarkets. This railway shows China and Kenya can work together well.

It connects two big cities in Tanzania. Before the railway, farmers could not send their fruit and vegetables to big cities fast, so lots of food went bad. Now the fast train carries food in only three hours, so farmers make more money, and city people can buy cheap fresh farm food.
Besides transport, China also shares farming skills, medical knowledge with other countries. Working together makes the whole world warmer and better.
