She became famous in her time, and her story is truly inspiring.   Mary was born in Jamaica(牙买加) to a British soldier father and a Jamaican mother who ran a boarding house. Her mother was also a traditional healer(治疗师) and because of that, Mary took an interest in nursing and learnt a lot about medicine and nursing from her.
