A Discovery That _______ the world
Among the many archaeological sites and museums throughout China, the Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Sichuan Province, attracts millions of visitors from around the world every year.
Once visitors walk through the gates of the museum, they will be surprised by the amazing collection of cultural artefacts from the Bronze Age. The ancient people of Sanxingdui lived by the Yangtze River more than 3,000 years ago. However, people were not aware of them until the 20th century, when Sanxingdui was discovered. Thousands of gold, bronze, ivory, and jade objects were found underground.
The first big discoveries were in two pits in 1986. More than 1,000 artefacts were found and many were repaired, including the world-famous bronze tree, the huge mask, the bronze man, and the gold stick. More recently, in 2019, six more pits were found and dug in the area. More amazing artefacts were found in them, including some 3,000-year-old gold

masks and bronze zun. By using modern technologies, researchers even found some remains of silk items. All the artefacts show that people from that era must have been highly skilled in metal work as well as carving. They might also have developed the skill of making silk.
The discovery of Sanxingdui amazed the world, and it has been called one of the world’s greatest archaeological finds od the 20th century. It is especially mysterious as no writing has been found at the site, and the art style seems very different and unique. Historians think Sanxingdui gives important evidence for the study of the development of Chinese civilization.
For discoveries like Sanxingdui, it is never enough just to find the artefacts and their story. The Sanxingdui Museum has held exhibitions around the world. Visitors have all been amazed by these treasures. And now, with digital technology, the Sanxingdui Museum is looking for more ways to bring the past back to life. It aims to show more people these mysteries and to make young people more about history, the world, and more importantly, our human story.
