The Dragon Boat Festival, one of China’s most important traditional holidays, has a deep connection with a great poet, Qu Yuan. Many people know his story, but few know Qu was not his family name. His family name was Mi. Because his ancestors (祖宗) did a great service (效劳) to the country, they were given the land of Quyi and took Qu as their family name.
Qu Yuan always wanted to make his country stronger, and he put forward many good ideas. However, some people were against him and lied to the king of Chu. As a result, the king sent him away.
During this time, Qu Yuan wrote many famous poems, such as Li Sao. In it, he compared good people to beautiful flowers and bad people to ugly wild plants. This special way of writing made his poems very popular, even today.
In 278 BC, when he heard that Chu had been taken over by Qin, he was heartbroken. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, he jumped into the Miluo River to show his loyalty (忠贞). Local people rushed to save him by rowing boats (划船). They threw rice into the river to provide food for the fish, hoping to protect his body. Over time, these acts turned into today’s Dragon Boat Festival traditions: racing dragon boats and eating zongzi.
Today, when we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, we not only enjoy delicious zongzi and exciting boat races but also remember his spirit. It still encourages Chinese people to love our country.
44. Where did Qu Yuan’s ancestors get land?

45. What caused Qu Yuan to be sent away?

Notice
Dear students,
We would like to collect your ideas:
In today’s open world, should we keep our own traditional festivals more carefully(Pros), or should we welcome foreign festivals with bigger hearts(Cons)? Please write your idea in simple English(about 60 words) and send it to the box before Friday.
Best wishes,
English Club of Junior Three
October 13, 2025
The topic has become hot. The English club has collected many different ideas from students.
Wang Ting
Foreign festivals can meet the psychological (心理的) needs of young people. They see foreign festivals as a way to relieve (减轻) stress. Halloween allows people to dress up in different costumes and have fun, which makes them laugh and forget their worries, creating a happy day.
Yan Ming
It’s good to celebrate foreign festivals. This shows we are open to different cultures. Foreign festivals like Christmas bring joy and fun. They also allow people to enjoy new activities and get to know each other better. So we should accept them as new ways to enjoy life.
Teng Fei
Traditional festivals are an important part of our country’s long history and culture. They carry the national feelings of our nation. For example, the Spring Festival is more than just a holiday-it is a time for families to get together. This shows how much Chinese culture values family unity.
Liu Xu
Traditional festivals have special meanings that foreign festivals don’t have. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, people admire the moon and eat mooncakes. This stands for family togetherness and missing loved ones who are far away. Traditional festivals are deeply rooted (扎根) in our national feelings.
In conclusion, both sides make good points. Deciding how to celebrate traditional festivals and foreign ones is not an easy task. We need to carefully consider this.
54. What is the main purpose of this notice?
_________________________________________________________________
55. In Wang Ting’s eyes, how can foreign festivals help young people?
_________________________________________________________________
56. Why do people celebrate foreign festivals according to Yan Ming?
_________________________________________________________________
57. What do Teng Fei and Liu Xu think of traditional festivals?

58. Do you think we should keep our own traditional festivals more carefully or welcome foreign festivals with bigger hearts? Why?

【74题答案】
【答案】
Dear Zhang Min,
How’s it going? It has been a long time since I wrote to you last time. Today, I want to share one of my study habits with you.
My good study habit is making a study plan every week. Last term, I had many subjects to learn and felt very busy. So I started to make a weekly plan. I wrote down what to do each day, like reading English for 30 minutes and doing math exercises. At first, it was hard to follow the plan, but I kept trying. Slowly, I got used to it. This habit has helped me a lot. I can manage my time better now. I don’t feel stressed before exams because I have reviewed everything step by step. My grades have also improved. I think making plans makes learning more organized and efficient.
What about your study habits? I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Mary
