On August 25, construction commenced on the first offshore pier pile foundation (桩基) for the Tieshangang Sea-Crossing Bridge of the new Hezhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway linking Guangxi and Guangdong. This marks the project’s official entry into the offshore construction phase.
Located in Hepu County, Beihai City, Guangxi, the Tieshangang Sea-Crossing Bridge spans 8,473.478 meters in total. The project requires 4,332 pile foundations, 578 bridge piers (桥墩), and 542 spans of cast-in-place beams and simply supported box girders. Among these, 99 are offshore piers and 919 are offshore pile foundations. As a key controlling project of the Hezhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway, it is currently the longest sea-crossing railway bridge in Guangxi. The construction faces significant challenges, including large tidal (潮汐的) differences, high salt spray erosion (高盐雾侵蚀), and strong typhoons.
It is reported that approximately 4,400 meters of the Tieshangang Sea-Crossing Bridge cross the Tieshangang Bay, with about 1,400 meters of this area containing mangroves (红树林) and diverse marine life. Multiple organizations have optimized the construction plan to minimize impact on the surrounding environment and wildlife.
The Hezhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway is designed for a speed of 350 km/h. The main line is about 139 kilometers long, with the Guangxi section spanning approximately 63 kilometers, 78% of which consists of bridges. Starting from Hepu Station on the Nanning-Beihai Railway, the route passes through Beihai City in Guangxi and Zhanjiang City in Guangdong, finally connecting to Zhanjiangxi Station on the Shenzhen-Zhanjiang Railway. It is positioned as a nationally important interregional passenger-dedicated railway (跨区域客运专线铁路) and serves as a critical part of Guangxi’s eastern high-speed corridor and a coastal high-speed new corridor linking the Beibu Gulf (北部湾), Pearl River Delta (珠三角), and Yangtze River Delta (长三角).
So far, six of the 16 bridges in the Guangxi section have begun construction, with 966 pile foundations completed and seven bridge piers built. The Hezhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway is expected to be completed and operational (正常运转的) by the end of 2028. Once opened, it will significantly enhance the coastal railway transport capacity, optimize the regional railway network layout, facilitate travel for residents along the route, and promote the development of the Beibu Gulf urban cluster, thereby driving high-quality economic and social growth in the region.
66.What does the commencement of the first offshore pier pile foundation signify?
A.The completion of the Tieshangang Bridge.
B.The start of the underwater exploration phase.
C.The beginning of the offshore construction stage.
D.The connection between Guangdong and Guangxi.
67.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a challenge for the bridge’s construction?
A.Strong typhoons. B.High salt spray erosion.
C.Deep underwater foundations. D.Large tidal differences.
68.Why was the construction plan optimized for the section near Tieshangang Bay?
A.To reduce construction costs. B.To minimize environmental impact.
C.To accelerate the building process. D.To avoid technical difficulties.
69.What is the designed speed of the Hezhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway?
A.250 km/h. B.300 km/h. C.350 km/h. D.400 km/h.
70.What is the expected impact of the railway after completion?
A.It will mainly serve freight transportation.

The undersea world is very beautiful. Now more and more people want to dive in the water to find the secret there. Scuba-diving (戴水肺潜水) is a new sport today. It can take you into a wonderful undersea world.
You will find many strange animals in the sea. Some are as large as a school bus. Many sea animals give out light in the dark and some have sharp teeth. During the day, there is enough light. Here, under the sea, everything is blue and green.
When fishes swim nearby, you can catch them with your hands. When you have bottles of air on your back, you can stay in deep water for a long time. However, you can’t dive too deep. And you must be very careful when you dive in deep water.
The deep sea is not an easy place to live in. It’s cold. And it’s dark, too. The deeper it is, the less sunlight there is. At about 3,000 feet, there is no light at all. It is very dark in the sea. Many fishes have no eyes. Some have big eyes. A few have eyes on one side.
Besides (除了) the cold and the darkness, deep-sea animals face another danger — other animals. Animals eat! They must find food to eat. Many animals eat plants. However, some animals eat meat. This means these sea animals have two big jobs. They need to find animals as food, and they have to try not to become other animals’ meal.

74.When you do scuba-diving with air, you can ________.
A.stay in deep water for a long time B.dive very, very deep
C.live in deep water easily D.dive freely without any dangers
75.Which statement is TRUE according to the passage?

The next time you sit down to a delicious dinner, ask yourself , “how much food will I be able to eat?” If you think about only taking as much food as you can eat, it will help you reduce waste.
Every day, plenty of food goes uneaten and turns into rubbish. This is very sad when we consider that many people can't even afford to have one meal every day. The problem of waste happens all over the world. People often want more than they really need.
The most important thing for us to remember is to be friendly to the environment. Only take as much as you can eat, buy things in environmentally friendly packing such as paper or cardboard, and leave rubbish in its proper place. If every person could cut down waste, even just a little, the whole effect would be great.
Rubbish and waste can be a big problem in large cities, If rubbish or food is left in the streets in our city, it can make the city dirty. We should try our best to solve this problem and make our city more beautiful. In this way, we will feel more comfortable living in the city.

A.250 km/h. B.300 km/h. C.350 km/h. D.400 km/h.
