Have you ever felt the earth move? How can you keep safe during an earthquake?
All earthquakes send out waves (波). An earthquake can be so small that it can’t be felt while a stronger earthquake sends out bigger waves and can be felt for hundreds of miles. Strong earthquakes can harm people and animals. They can make everything in a mess.
Once an earthquake starts, it may be too late to escape it. But there are steps you can take to stay safe. When you stay inside, remember to drop, cover, and hold. First, drop to the floor. Second, cover yourself with your arms under strong furniture (家具). Third, hold on to something strong. Stay away from windows or things that could fall. Stay calm and help others do the same. When you stay outside, you should get away from buildings, electrical lines, and other things that can fall and find an open place to stay.
After an earthquake, have an adult turn off the gas and water. Pipes crack (管道破裂) and let out harmful gases. Broken pipes can also make water unsafe to drink.
Be prepared for what happens after a big earthquake or any natural disaster (灾害). Put together a kit (成套设备) of things you may need. This kit needs to include water, food, and a first-aid kit. Now you will understand how you can stay safe during an earthquake! Don’t forget to tell others about this.

Billy spent each day on the streets, begging for money to buy food. Every day, as he started thinking about his life, he sometimes heard the sound of a coin or two dropping into his cup. Billy’s first thought was to go straight to a jeweler’s and that was exactly what he did. He was offered $4,000! Billy thought long and hard. Was this a mistake? It was more money than he’d seen in a long time. But then he thought about his grandfather, who had always taught him to do the right thing, so he knew he had to reconsider. His mind was firm (坚定的). Two days later, a young woman came to him and asked if he’d found anything unusual in his cup. Billy reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring. When he saw the smile on the woman’s face, he knew he’d made the right decision. She explained that when she dropped the coins into his cup, she’d forgotten to put it in her purse.
But it didn’t end there. The woman and her husband posted the story on the Internet. They also raised money for Billy online. They soon raised more than $185,000.

Laura’s school offered a dance class, and Laura decided to give it a try.
The steps and the music were okay, but the boys were not really okay. She had to hold hands with them. The dance teacher helped them work well as a team. Then it wasn’t so strange working with a boy partner.
As the lessons went on, Laura started enjoying dancing with partners who tried hard and knew their steps. However, some of the boys didn’t take it seriously. She didn’t like dancing with them, but she politely took her turn dancing with them. That was another thing Laura learned while she was dancing. She’d never thought much about it before, but she was expected to behave like a lady, which meant she had to accept dance partners even though she didn’t like them.
About twenty lessons later, the lessons came to an end. Laura and Jeff were chosen to perform for their school, along with other three couples from her school.
The competition was like something out of a storybook. There were dresses and shoes and music. Everyone was smiling, wearing great clothes, and their hair was done nicely. It was hard not to be nervous, but it was hard not to feel excited, too. All the other dancers were fantastic! It was sad not to win the competition, but a third place might not be that bad.
Laura was proud of everything she had learned in the dance class.
33. ____________ helped Laura get used to the dance class.
34. Laura hated dancing with some boys because they didn’t ____________.
35. ____________ students in total from Laura’s school entered the competition.

________ the students ________ the teacher likes the film.
【答案】 ①.
Neither ②.
