But in a recent study, researchers uncovered a hidden danger: the better these tools perform, the more they might drop students’ ability to think by themselves. Nearly 1,000 students from grade 9 to 11 in Turkey joined the study. They were divided into three groups: one with no AI access (使用权) — the control group, one using ChatGPT, and one using GPT Tutor — an improved AI tutor designed by teachers which gave guidance instead of answers and included fixes for common mistakes. Over four weeks, students used these tools during practice periods, and then were followed by exams without AI help. During practice periods, students using the ChatGPT scored 48% higher than those without AI. Those using the improved GPT Tutor scored 127% higher. However, in exams without AI, ChatGPT users performed 17% worse than the control group. GPT Tutor users, on the other hand, did just as well as students who never used AI. This shows that while AI can better shortterm performance, poorly designed tools might hurt real learning. Researchers found that students using ChatGPT often asked for direct answers instead of trying to solve problems themselves. About 31% of their messages were simple requests like, “What’s the’answer?” In comparison, GPT Tutor users spent more time asking for guidance or explaining their details. The safeguards in GPT Tutor — like detailed guidance — helped students think critically. Without these features, ChatGPT acted like a “crutch”, making students less prepared for their own homework. Surveys also showed another fact. ChatGPT users felt confident about their exam performance, even though their scores dropped. GPT Tutor users believed they learned more, even though their exam results were similar to the control group. This suggests that AI tools might create false confidence if not carefully designed. In short, generative AI has great promise in education, but its design matters. Tools built with teacher expertise and focus on problem-solving can help students learn. Those that prioritize speed over understanding might do more harm than good. 8. Which aspect of generative AI tools does the new research focus on? A. Its advancement. B. Its accuracy. C. Its flexibility. D. Its influence. 9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. Experimental design. B. Study results. C. Research background. D. Tool functions. 10. Which request is a student using GPT Tutor likely to make? A. Grade the monthly test paper quickly. B. Provide the best title of my composition. C. Walk me through this problem step by step. D. Translate the following sentence into Chinese. 11. What do the surveys concerning AI tools present in paragraph 5? A. A misunderstanding of the product design contents. B. A mismatch between student beliefs and actual results. C. Confidence is directly affected by complexity of AI tools. D. Scores differ between ChatGPT users and the control group. D 9. A 10. C 11. 根据第一段“But in a recent study, researchers uncovered a hidden danger: the better these tools perform, the more they might drop students’ ability to think by themselves.(但在最近的一项研究中,研究人员发现了一个隐藏的危险:这些工具的性能越好,它们就越有可能降低学生独立思考的能力)”可知,新的研究集中在生成式人工智能工具的影响方面。 根据第二段“Nearly 1,000 students from grade 9 to 11 in Turkey joined the study. They were divided into three groups: one with no AI access (使用权) — the control group, one using ChatGPT, and one using GPT Tutor — an improved AI tutor designed by teachers which gave guidance instead of answers and included fixes for common mistakes. Over four weeks, students used these tools during practice periods, and then were followed by exams without AI help.(土耳其近1000名9年级到11年级的学生参加了这项研究。他们被分为三组:一组没有人工智能访问——对照组,一组使用ChatGPT,一组使用GPT导师——一种由教师设计的改进的人工智能导师,提供指导而不是答案,并包括对常见错误的修复。在四周的时间里,学生们在练习期间使用这些工具,然后在没有人工智能帮助的情况下进行考试)”可知,第二段的主要内容是实验设计。故选A。 根据第四段“In comparison, GPT Tutor users spent more time asking for guidance or explaining their details. The safeguards in GPT Tutor — like detailed guidance — helped students think critically. Without these features, ChatGPT acted like a “crutch”, making students less prepared for their own homework.(相比之下,GPT Tutor的用户花更多的时间寻求指导或解释他们的细节。GPT Tutor的保障措施——比如详细的指导——帮助学生批判性地思考。没有这些功能,ChatGPT就像一根“拐杖”,让学生对自己的作业准备不足)”可知,GPT Tutor的用户花更多的时间寻求指导或解释他们的细节。由此推知,使用GPT Tutor的学生可能会提出“一步一步地告诉我这个问题”。故选C。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“Surveys also showed another fact. ChatGPT users felt confident about their exam performance, even though their scores dropped. GPT Tutor users believed they learned more, even though their exam results were similar to the control group. (调查还显示了另一个事实。ChatGPT的用户对他们的考试表现很有信心,即使他们的分数下降了。GPT导师的用户认为他们学到了更多,即使他们的考试成绩与对照组相似)”可知,关于人工智能工具的调查是学生的信念和实际结果不匹配。故选B。 D David Uttal, a scientist at Northwestern University, has always been poor at finding his way. At 13, he got lost on a Boy Scout hike for two and a half days. The world is full of people like Uttal — and their opposites, the folks who always seem to know exactly where they are and how to get where they want to go. These differences are obvious but explaining them has proved challenging. Now, research using virtual reality suggests that to some extent, navigational (导航的) skills are shaped by upbringing. A 2020 study highlighted this. The researchers compared the performance of more than 2,600 twins as they navigated through a virtual environment to test whether navigational ability runs in families. It does, they found — but only modestly. Instead, the biggest contributor to people’s performance was what geneticists call “nonshared environmental factors” — the unique experiences each person accumulates as their life unfolds. Good navigators, it appears, are mostly made, not born. Another large-scale experiment provided further insight. Researchers developed a smartphone game, “Sea Hero Quest”, in which players navigate through a virtual environment to locate checkpoints. Based on data from nearly four million players worldwide, they discovered that cultural factors were linked to way-finding skills. People from Nordic countries, where the navigation sport of orienteering is popular, performed slightly better. Results like these suggest that life experience may be one of the biggest determinants of navigational ability. Indeed, experience may even underlie one of the most consistent findings in navigation: men tend to perform better than women. It turns out that gender gap is more a question of culture and experience than of born ability. Nordic countries, for example, where gender equality is greatest, show almost no gender difference in navigation. In contrast, men far outperform women in places where women face cultural restrictions on exploring their environment. To Uttal, these findings carry an optimistic implication. “The good news is that navigation is trainable,” he notes, “It’s never too late to become a better navigator. You just need to give yourself opportunities to explore and pay attention to your surroundings.” 12. What did the 2020 study on twins reveal about navigational ability? A. It is largely determined by genes. B. It remains constant in a person’s life. C. It varies little among individuals. D. It is learned through experience. 13. How was the “Sea Hero Quest” experiment conducted? A. By testing brain activity during play. B. By analyzing smartphone game data. C. By comparing the Nordics with others. D. By observing how players navigate. 14. Why do men often outperform women in navigation? A. Men benefit from practicing sports. B. Women lack interest in doing so. C. Men possess stronger space memory. D. Women have fewer chances to explore. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. What Can “Sea Hero Quest” Teach Us? B. How Does VR Improve Navigational Skills? C. Why Do Some People Always Get Lost? D. Who Are Better Navigators: Men or Women? D 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第三段中的“Instead, the biggest contributor to people’s performance was what geneticists call “nonshared environmental factors” — the unique experiences each person accumulates as their life unfolds. Good navigators, it appears, are mostly made, not born.(相反,影响人们表现的最大因素是遗传学家所称的“非共享环境因素”——即每个人在人生历程中积累的独特经验。看来,优秀的导航者大多是后天塑造的,而非天生的。)”可知,2020年的双胞胎研究揭示了导航能力主要是通过后天经验习得的。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Researchers developed a smartphone game, “Sea Hero Quest”, in which players navigate through a virtual environment to locate checkpoints. Based on data from nearly four million players worldwide, they discovered that cultural factors were linked to way-finding skills.(研究人员开发了一款手机游戏“Sea Hero Quest”,在游戏中玩家穿行虚拟环境来定位检查点。基于全球近四百万玩家的数据,他们发现文化因素与寻路能力相关。)”可知,该实验是通过分析智能手机游戏的数据进行的。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“In contrast, men far outperform women in places where women face cultural restrictions on exploring their environment.(相比之下,在女性探索环境受到文化限制的地区,男性的导航能力远优于女性。)” C选项“Why Do Some People Always Get Lost?(为什么有些人总是迷路?)” People favor humor, as it lights up daily moments, eases awkwardness and makes every interaction warm and enjoyable. This magic of humor doesn’t just work in daily life; it also shines in the field of science, especially online. ____16____ Firstly, humor simplifies tough scientific knowledge. ____17____ For example, explaining AI in self-driving cars with a funny analogy about “machines learning like clumsy toddlers” makes abstract ideas easy for non-professional groups to understand. ____18____ Scientists sharing clever and humorous stories about laboratory experiments on social media often attract more interactions than dry academic posts. Additionally, humor humanizes scientists, as seen in popular science lectures where light-hearted jokes help audiences feel closer to researchers. ____19____ The hidden risks deserve our attention. If the content itself is untrue, humor can even replace facts, leading the audience to form wrong opinions about scientific knowledge just based on the amusing posts they see. Overusing sarcasm or negative humor also has the opposite effect, as it will quickly make scientists lose the public’s trust and damage their credibility. Proper humor use requires a balance between vivid expression and professional precision. It should neither overshadow the core scientific information nor be so shallow that it loses seriousness. ____20____ Scientists who master this balance can effectively narrow the divide with the public, making science more welcoming and popular. A. Overuse harms professionalism. B. It also boosts audience engagement effectively. C. It helps break the impression of scientists being cold and distant. D. A little humor can greatly enhance scientists’ communication effect. E. Humor in scientific communication is a double-edged sword, though. F. It’s a helper in making complex concepts understandable to ordinary people. G. It is believed humor needs to be used with great care in such communication. D 17. F 18. B 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 前文“This magic of humor doesn’t just work in daily life; it also shines in the field of science, especially online.( 幽默的这种魔力不仅在日常生活中有效,在科学领域(尤其是在网络上)也同样如此。)” D选项“A little humor can greatly enhance scientists’ communication effect.( 一点幽默就能极大地提升科学家的沟通效果。)” 本段第一个分论点是“幽默简化艰深的科学知识”,后文“For example, explaining AI in self-driving cars with a funny analogy about “machines learning like clumsy toddlers” makes abstract ideas easy for non-professional groups to understand.( 例如,用一个关于“机器像笨拙的学步儿童一样学习”的有趣类比来解释自动驾驶汽车中的人工智能,能让非专业人士更容易理解抽象的概念。)” 本空是对分论点的同义转述和补充说明,F选项“It’s a helper in making complex concepts understandable to ordinary people.( 它有助于使复杂的概念为普通人所理解。)” 【18题详解】 前文“For example, explaining AI in self-driving cars with a funny analogy about “machines learning like clumsy toddlers” makes abstract ideas easy for non-professional groups to understand.( 例如,用一个关于“机器像笨拙的学步儿童一样学习”的有趣类比来解释自动驾驶汽车中的人工智能,能让非专业人士更容易理解抽象的概念。)”讲完第一个好处,后文“Scientists sharing clever and humorous stories about laboratory experiments on social media often attract more interactions than dry academic posts.( 科学家在社交媒体上分享关于实验室实验的聪明幽默故事,往往比枯燥的学术帖子吸引更多的互动。)” B选项“It also boosts audience engagement effectively.( 同时还能有效地提高观众的参与度。)”用 “also”自然过渡,“boosts audience engagement” 与后文“attract more interactions”形成精准对应。 本空需要一个强转折句,完成从 “利”到“弊”的逻辑切换,E选项“Humor in scientific communication is a double-edged sword, though.( 幽默在科学交流中是一把双刃剑。)” 【20题详解】 上文“Proper humor use requires a balance between vivid expression and professional precision. It should neither overshadow the core scientific information nor be so shallow that it loses seriousness.( 恰当的幽默运用需要在生动表达和专业精准之间取得平衡。 Xia Yujie, owner of China’s first accessible pub — Pub HandyCup, had his left hand disabled in a middle school medical accident. Businesses launch themed products and sales events around them, making some people worry that commercialization undermines the true meaning of festivals. From my perspective, commercialization actually helps keep festivals alive. It brings new energy to traditions and draws more people’s attention, especially the young. For example, moon cake promotions remind people of family reunions, and festive activities let more people experience our culture. The core of festivals lies in our shared values and warm connections, which are not weakened but strengthened when more people join in. All in all, as long as we keep the cultural heart, commercialization is a way to pass on our traditions to the next generation. 例文② Dear friends, Nowadays, traditional festivals in China are increasingly commercialized. Businesses flood the market with overpriced gifts and endless sales promotions, turning festivals into busy shopping rushes. From my perspective, this trend clearly undermines the true meaning of festivals. Instead of focusing on family gatherings, cultural rituals and emotional bonding, people are busy chasing discounts and exchanging expensive gifts. This shifts the focus from cultural heritage to materialism, diluting the festivals’ original warmth and significance. To sum up, I believe we should slow down and go back to the true spirit of festivals, rather than letting business take over these special days. 例文③ Nowadays, traditional festivals are flooded with numerous commercial activities, such as massive promotions and fancy gift sales, which have become an unavoidable part of festival celebrations. Personally, I firmly believe that commercialization does not weaken the true meaning of festivals. Firstly, commercial activities, spreading festival atmosphere widely, arouse more public attention to traditional customs. What matters most is that people gather to share joy and inherit culture during festivals. Meanwhile, proper business operations help preserve traditional crafts and boost cultural inheritance. As long as we cherish the inner spirits behind festivals, commercialization can coexist harmoniously with their core values. To sum up, commercialization is merely a modern carrier of traditional festivals. It will never overshadow their precious spiritual essence. 例文④ Nowadays, traditional festivals are flooded with various commercial activities like shopping promotions and gift consumption, which have become a common scene accompanying festival celebrations everywhere. Personally, I firmly hold the view that commercialization will not weaken the true meaning lying behind traditional festivals. For one thing, commercial events, creating strong festive vibes, draw more people’s attention to age-old customs that we tend to ignore. What truly defines a festival is that people reunite, share happiness and pass down precious cultural spirits. For another, reasonable commercial development supports traditional handicrafts and cultural spreading. As long as we stick to the inner essence of festivals, commercial activities can perfectly complement rather than damage their original value. In short, commercialization is just an external form. As long as we keep respecting and inheriting festival essence, it will never overshadow the heartfelt cultural significance. 词汇积累 不断增加地:growing → increasingly 在我看来:from my perspective → as far as I’m concerned 吸引人们的注意:draw people’s attention → attract people’s attention 在于:lie in → consist in 2. From my perspective, commercialization actually helps keep festivals alive. B Two students on a stage held opposite ends of a long board, while at the center of the board, two others cut onions as quickly as they could, with one boy’s skillful knife work earning him a warm round of applause. Soon, these four students, as well as many others sitting in rows near the stage, were reaching for tissues to wipe away tears. “My students, why do they tear up when cutting onions? Do you know what this common phenomenon is called?” After the lively demonstration, Hu Yongxiang, a physics teacher at Third Middle School of Hongsibu district, in Wuzhong, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, introduced the concept of thermal motion, which was the key focus of the day’s lesson. Hu’s classes are known for transforming abstract physics concepts into attractive experiments and interesting games, helping to cultivate his students with great enthusiasm for learning physics. “His classes are fun and lively. These experiments are impressed on our minds — so we don’t just memorize, but learn to apply principles,” said Wang Tao, one of Hu’s students. Beyond the classroom, Hu has also brought his interesting experiments to online platforms. He has created many short videos of his physics experiments, which have gained millions of views. “I hope my experiments can inspire more students to love science,” Hu said. He has also designed a series of creative teaching tools, such as a pegboard for showing force and pressure, and a stainless steel roller coaster to explain energy exchange. “I want to make physics visible and tangible for my students,” he added. Hu’s innovative teaching methods have not only improved students’ academic performance but also stirred up their curiosity and creativity. Many of his students have developed a strong interest in science and have taken an active part in various science competitions. 4. Patient and entertaining. C Nowadays generative (生成的) AI tools like ChatGPT are flooding into schools, promising to transform learning. D David Uttal, a scientist at Northwestern University, has always been poor at finding his way. D. Xia Yujie, owner of China’s first accessible pub — Pub HandyCup, had his left hand disabled in a middle school medical accident.
