Ancient Ways to Find the Right Way
Long ago, there were no phones(手机) or maps. How did people find their way? One old story is about a man named Kuafu. He ran after the sun to catch it. Of course, he couldn’t, but people learned that the sun rises(升起) in the east and sets(降下) in the west. That was a big help!
People also watched the stars at night. The Big Dipper (北斗七星)looks like a big spoon. If you find it, you can see the North Star(北极星). The North Star always points(指向) north. In the daytime, people looked at trees. The side with more and bigger leaves usually faces(面向) south. Rivers and mountains also helped people know where they were.
Today, we use phones or GPS to find our way. But knowing these old ways is still fun and useful. You can try to find the sun or the Big Dipper next time you go outside. It’s like being a little explorer!
