You’ve heard of spacecraft, but have you heard of a space
balloon? A company(公司) called Space Perspective is planning to use its
new balloon, called Spacecraft Neptune, to take tourists on a trip to the
edge(边缘) of space.
Although the balloon won’t completely go into space, this won’t
matter much to the tourists. That’s because at 20 miles above the earth,
they will feel like they’re in space.
The balloon uses hydrogen(氢气). Hydrogen is lighter than the air so
the balloon can go up. The balloon can come to a stop about 20 miles
above the earth, because here the air is no longer heavier than the
hydrogen inside the balloon. The company has tested Neptune without
tourists and will take its first paying clients in 2025. It has sold out 600
tickets. Of course, the tickets are expensive. The trip will take up to
eight tourists two hours to travel up there, two hours to enjoy the stay
and two hours to travel back. The five-metre-wide tourists’ room is below the balloon. It has special windows and they can stop tourists getting too hot from the sunlight. The tourists will be able to enjoy food and drinks there while enjoying the trip.
Space Perspective says its balloon is environmentally friendly(环保
的). Jane Poynter, who set up Space Perspective, says the company is
trying to make more common people reach space, not just highly-trained
astronauts.

( D )1. Why does the balloon come to a stop about 20 miles above the
earth?
A. Because it is too hot there.
B. Because it is best to enjoy the earth there.
C. Because the hydrogen can get into the air there.
D. Because the air is no longer heavier than the hydrogen inside the
balloon there.
D

( A )2. What does the underlined word “clients” probably mean in
Paragraph 3?
A. Customers. B. Gentlemen. C. Astronauts. D. Strangers.
A
The company has tested Neptune
without tourists and will take its first paying clients in 2025. It
has sold out 600 tickets. Of course, the tickets are expensive.”
故选A。
( C )3. How long will Space Perspective’s trip take?
A. 2 hours. B. 4 hours.
C. 6 hours. D. 8 hours.
( B )4. The passage does NOT mention .
A. who set up Space Perspective
B. how much a ticket for the balloon trip costs
C. why the company invented(发明) Spacecraft Neptune
D. when tourists will make the first space balloon trip
C
B
( C )5. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Magic of Balloons
B. Space Dream Is Not Impossible
C. Journey to the Edge of Space
D. How to Make Spacecraft Neptune
