The stories cover complex and relevant science facts, like how smallpox (天花) was wiped out, and share histories lost over time. My journey to a fulfilling life began with a realization that these devices were slowly eroding (腐蚀) my sense of presence and joy. It started three years ago when I was an Internet celebrity, constantly glued to my smartphone. With nearly 200,000 followers, my life revolved (打转) around designing, filming, editing, posting, and engaging with virtual interactions. But beneath the surface of likes and comments, I felt a growing sense of blankness and loss. The constant notifications and the pressure to maintain an online presence negatively impacted my mental health. One day, I decided to take a step back. I switched from a smartphone to a basic “dumbphone”, which could only make calls and send texts. At first, the transition was challenging. I missed the convenience of having everything at my fingertips. But gradually, I began to notice positive changes. Without the constant distractions, I found more time for reading, painting, and spending quality time with loved ones. Another significant change was in my mental state. I felt less anxious and more focused. I no longer wasted hours looking through social media, comparing my life to others' carefully edited highlights. Instead, I rediscovered the joy of living in the moment. I started to explore the world around me, engaging in activities that truly brought me happiness. This journey taught me that true fulfillment comes from meaningful connections and experiences, not from the digital world. By letting go of my smartphone and social media, I gained something far more valuable: a life filled with purpose and genuine happiness. 4.What was the author's initial professional role? A.A digital marketer. B.An art designer. C.A social media programmer. D.An online content creator. 5.How did the author actually feel about her digital life according to paragraph 2? A.Empty and stressed. B.Energetic and refreshed. C.Inactive and aimless. D.Forethoughtful and decisive. 6.Which of the following was a result for the author after changing? A.Better financial situation. B.Increased work productivity. C.More time for personal interests. D.Higher social media followers. 7.What does the author intend to convey through the text? A.Less is more. B.Out of sight, out of mind. C.Every cloud has a silver lining. D.The grass is always greener on the other side. C (适变创新命题:第8题考查语篇的论证方法) (2026·厦门模拟)If you yawn (打哈欠) more and pretend to be interested often, researchers may have an explanation: a global rise in boredom. Boredom has risen significantly over the past 15 years, a new paper suggests. It also proposes a possible cause: the growing use of social media. “Technology has driven us into an age of constant digital engagement. With endless rewarding stimulation a fingertip away, however, people are becoming increasingly bored,” the authors wrote in Communications Psychology. One cited experiment tracked over 100,000 American adolescents for nearly a decade, finding a modest but significant rise in boredom from 2011, measured on a five-point scale. Another study of over 28,000 European students showed a 14% increase in boredom between 2009 and 2020, based on the Boredom Proneness Scale. How these results are interpreted is open to debate. James Danckert, a professor of cognitive neuroscience, thinks it reasonable that boredom is on the rise and social media may play a part. “The function of boredom, however, is to push you into action,” Danckert argues. He believes the key lies in taking part in unpredictable, meaningful events where you must make active choices. Impromptu conversations with somebody can fill these requirements. Danckert doubts social media ticks the same boxes. “When you start scrolling (滑动) on your phone, a ton of what you're going to see there is highly predictable,” he said. The more predictable our world becomes, the less meaningful it is and the more boring it becomes. Professor Andreas Elpidorou, an expert in the field of boredom studies, agrees. “Digital media may force us into a continuous engagement with a content that is interesting enough to entertain but not meaningful enough to fulfil,” he said. However, he suspected it was not the only factor, adding, “I worry this is too convenient an explanation. I'm not saying it isn't true, but I worry it may only be partially true.” 8.Why does the author mention the quote in paragraph 2? A.To support the finding of a new paper. B.To review the benefits of digital engagement. C.To provide solutions to overcoming boredom. D.To highlight the suggestions given by researchers. 9.What do the two studies mentioned in paragraph 3 focus on? A.The increase in boredom levels. B.The historical trend of boredom. C.The effect of boredom on human behavior. D.The link between boredom and technology. 10.What does the underlined word “Impromptu” in paragraph 4 mean? A.Structured. B.Informal. C.Detailed. D.Unprepared. 11.What is Elpidorou's attitude towards the results of boredom research? A.Appreciative. B.Objective. C.Tolerant. D.Dismissive. D (2026·茂名模拟)Social media has had an immeasurable impact on the world. It has increased interconnectivity and sped up the spread of information, but its biggest impact of all might be the changes it has made to language. Dozens of terms and phrases have originated on social media. “Selfie” was named word of the year by the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013. Two years later, the “Face with Tears of Joy” emoji became their “word” of the year. There are many more examples of social media slang (俚语) included in the dictionary. Besides, words like “hashtag” and “lol” have become ordinary, all thanks to their wide usage on social media platforms. Other social media words are new combinations of other words. Photobomb,_for instance, describes the phenomenon of getting into somebody's photographs accidentally, which came about due to the success of image-sharing platforms. Social media has done more than invent new words and combine existing ones. It has completely transformed the meaning of a large portion of our language. The word “friend” is now widely used as a verb to mean adding someone on social media platforms. The word “add” means sending an invitation to connect social media accounts. The number of “likes” is now a measurement of popularity. So far, we have only discussed social media's effect on the English language, but one significant variation in language it has brought about involves communication across different languages. Some social media platforms have a built-in translation function that intends to reduce language barriers for users. This deserves praise in theory, and the function has been described as “surprisingly accurate”. But as translation agency Global Voices points out, social media usage across cultures differs greatly, and no built-in algorithm (算法) can translate this. Another way social media has made progress in breaking down the language barrier is with AI chatbots, which are becoming increasingly popular on social media. Some users have said chatbots could eventually be used to teach languages. They say the best way of learning a language is to try speaking it, and with social media dominating communication, who's to say speaking to a chatbot is not just as good? 12.What does the underlined word “Photobomb” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Intentionally stealing the scene. B.Casually playing tricks in the photo. C.Unexpectedly appearing in the photo. D.Actively participating in the photo. 13.What do we know about social media's translation function? A.It is only useful for some specific languages. B.It is not as good as expected due to cultural differences. C.It is the best way to communicate across different languages. D.It is completely accurate and has removed all language barriers. 14.What is some people's attitude towards chatbots when it comes to language learning? A.Approving. B.Doubtful. C.Objective. D.Critical. 15.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.The Development of the English Language B.The Role of Technology in Communication C.The Rise of New Words in the Digital Age D.The Impact of Social Media on Language Development Ⅱ.阅读七选五(关注课标新增主题:网络安全) (2026·南阳模拟)Researchers agree that some online experiences can benefit even young members of Generation Z. But studies have also linked time spent online with health issues. __16__ Be active instead of passive. Choose what you do and view. Chat over video with friends or family. Write or comment on posts. Create works of art. “You can have really meaningful, supportive conversations with friends,” says psychologist Sam Ehrenreich. He contrasts this with “passive” screen time — “sitting there and scrolling continuously, without actually interacting with anybody”. __17__ Think about what makes you feel good and what doesn't. Start by being honest with yourself about when your tech use makes you feel good. But some people's posts might make you feel angry or anxious. Or you might enjoy some kinds of videos but feel inadequate as you watch others. __18__ Then avoid the negative ones. __19__ We don't post pictures of us sitting at home bored. Neither do your friends! Like you, they have homework, school and other not-so-fun responsibilities. They don't usually look picture-perfect. Without reality check, you may feel left out or jealous when you see fun party scenes or glamorous posts. Chances are that your friends feel the same way, so talk about it with them. Protect your privacy. __20__ There's a tendency to overshare every detail of your life. Sharing details about yourself online may leave you vulnerable to scammers. Some strangers online may endanger you — either your personal safety or your wallet. A.Talk with your friends. B.Figure out what those things are. C.That can be sometimes depressing. D.Be realistic about what you see online. E.Here are handy tips to reduce online time. F.Photos, videos and other posts become part of your digital footprint. G.So, how can you get the most from your screen time while managing the risks? (2026·武汉模拟)Dylan and Emily had been carefully setting aside money to pay for their wedding, which they hoped to have within the next year or so. However, their plans took an unexpected turn. One day after work, when looking through a social media, Dylan saw a post about a little dog that had been hit by a car and left to die on the side of a country road. Without hesitation, Dylan and Emily grabbed some towels and blankets, threw them into their car, and drove about 20 minutes to the spot where the dog had been last seen. There the dog was, about 8 to 10 months old, lying off the side of the road in a driveway, wet and shaking slightly from the rain that had been falling throughout the day. Dylan noticed that its back legs were covered in blood and appeared to be broken. Despite the pain, the dog tried to crawl towards him, and when Dylan got close, the dog gently put its head in his lap. Dylan could sense its discomfort, but the dog didn't make a sound. He decided to temporarily name the female dog Acklin for the name of the road where she was found. With Emily's help, Dylan safely transported Acklin into the trunk of their car. Then Emily went door to door to ask if anyone knew the dog, while Dylan searched for the nearest animal hospital on his phone. Their worries increased when Acklin started coughing; she might have internal bleeding. With the lights on, they drove 10 miles to an animal hospital nearby. The vets (兽医) examined the dog, finding both of her back legs were broken and she had two bruised lungs (肺挫伤). They warned Dylan that one of her legs might need to be cut off, and the total cost of treatment could range from $10,000 to $15,000. Through the media, they soon learned that the dog's owner had been located. However, the owner announced that she couldn't afford the cost of treatment and then hung up. Dylan and Emily felt a heavy burden on their hearts. They consulted on this matter, and eventually had to make a difficult decision. Several days later, Dylan and Emily planned to pick up Acklin and bring her home. 根据Flyest Fables, ages 6-12部分的“It adapts classic tales for kids and explores a variety of characters, identities, and experiences.” But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids, all ages部分“But Why is a podcast designed to answer kids' most pressing questions, asked directly by kids themselves.” 根据第二段中的“With nearly 200,000 followers, my life revolved around designing, filming, editing, posting, and engaging with virtual interactions.” 根据第二段中的“But beneath the surface of likes and comments, I felt a growing sense of blankness and loss. The constant notifications and the pressure to maintain an online presence negatively impacted my mental health.” 根据第三段中的“Without the constant distractions, I found more time for reading, painting, and spending quality time with loved ones.” 根据语境判断,画线词所在句的“these requirements”指代前文“He believes the key lies in taking part in unpredictable, meaningful events where you must make active choices.” 根据最后一段中“However, he suspected it was not the only factor ... but I worry it may only be partially true.” 根据画线词的下文“describes the phenomenon of getting into somebody's photographs accidentally”可知,画线词指的是意外出现在他人照片中的现象。 13. 根据最后一段中“They say the best way of learning a language is to try speaking it, and with social media dominating communication, who's to say speaking to a chatbot is not just as good? 故C项(这有时会令人沮丧)承接上文,符合语境,其中that指代上文“sitting there and scrolling continuously, without actually interacting with anybody”。 18. They consulted on this matter, and eventually had to make a difficult decision. Dylan and Emily knew that their wedding fund was meant for their special day, but they couldn't ignore the helpless dog in need. They decided to use the money they had saved for their wedding to pay for Acklin's medical expenses. It wasn't an easy choice, but they felt it was the right thing to do. They comforted each other with the thought that they could have sufficient time to save money and plan for their wedding again. Several days later, Dylan and Emily planned to pick up Acklin and bring her home. They were both excited and nervous, wondering how Acklin would react to her new family members. When they arrived at the animal hospital, they were greeted by a small, but spirited dog who seemed to be recovering well. The vets had successfully treated her injuries and although one of her legs was cut off, she was still able to move around. Acklin wagged her tail and licked their faces, showing her gratitude. Dylan and Emily knew that this little dog had brought a new meaning to their lives, and they couldn't wait to give her the love and care.
