M: That’s terrible. Does Italy have a lot of snowslides?
W: I’m not sure. We don’t have them in Rome. I heard that this one was caused by heavy snow and some earthquakes.

M: Good afternoon, Mary.
W: David, you’re very concerned about the forest, aren’t you? Can you tell us why?
M: Well, much of the forest was wiped out in the terrible storm last winter. Many of the trees are dead, and more are dying. We believe that the government isn’t doing enough to rebuild this beautiful forest.
W: I see. But you have spoken to the government about this.
M: We’ve tried, but each time they say that they haven’t got enough money. They are always using money as the excuse. It’s getting really disappointing!
W: But it’s not just an excuse, is it? They clearly don’t have enough money for everything and the storm was unexpected.
M: Of course, we can appreciate that, and the point is that actually we aren’t asking for much money. We would just like their guidance — we can provide volunteers to work on the forest.

【原文】It can often feel like we are living in dark times, so it's nice to be able to report this next local story. A community in the seaside town of Newhaven came together to help a family in a time of need. The Smith family was away on holiday when their house was struck by lightning during a storm. This caused an electrical fire, which quickly spread through the house. When the Smith family returned from vacation, they found their house burned to the ground. Because the fire had been caused by lightning, their insurance provider refused to pay. However, they regained hope when their neighbors and friends came to support them. A community fundraiser had already been organized, with local businesses all offering help, not just with money but food and necessities to help the Smiths rebuild their lives. They now have enough money to rebuild their home so that they can stay in their loving community. Their story serves as a powerful reminder that a problem shared is a problem halved and the more people there are, the greater the strength. Thank you, and good night.
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
In 2025, many natural disasters happened around the world. Among them, three disasters were very destructive and had big impacts.
Typhoon Dante in the Philippines
On July 23, 2025, a strong typhoon named Dante hit the central part of the Philippines. It brought very heavy rain and strong winds of up to 180 km/h. This led to large floods and landslides. By the end of July, reports showed that at least 30 people died and 12 people were missing. The typhoon destroyed 8,000 homes and affected about 5.29 million people. It was one of the worst typhoons to hit the country this year.
Earthquake in Turkey
On the early morning of November 6, 2025, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey. It started near the city of Antakya, only 7 km underground. This shallow depth made the shaking much stronger. Many buildings, roads, and power lines fell down in several cities. By the end of November, more than 5,000 people had died and nearly 20,000 were hurt. Turkey has many earthquakes because it is located where several of the earth's plates meet.
Wildfires in Australia
In mid-November 2025, during Australia’s summer, major bushfires started in a national park in Victoria. The fires were started by lightning and quickly spread to nearby areas. Very hot weather (over 40℃ for 8 days), strong winds (up to 70 km/h), and dry conditions made the fires much worse. In three weeks, the fires had burned about 76,000 hectares of land. They destroyed 4 houses and 40 farm buildings, and killed hundreds of wild animals. Several people were hurt, and over 500 people had to leave their homes. The air in nearby cities was very bad to breathe for more than a week.
21.When did Typhoon Dante hit the Philippines?

Maggie, a girl of thirteen years old, lived on the west coast of the United States. She had never experienced an earthquake before; she only prepared for it. As long as she could remember, preparing for an earthquake was common at her school. Her family had made plans as well in case of a natural disaster.
One day, Maggie arrived home from school at the usual time. However, it was not the same as usual. She was home alone. Her mom would be driving home on the busy freeway and her dad was to arrive at the airport. He was coming home from a two-week business trip.
After finishing her homework, Maggie felt a little hungry, so she went to the kitchen to find something to eat. Just then she felt a shake, then the violent shaking. Maggie quickly ran under the large table in the dining room. The sounds of breaking glass and the crashing of many things were deafening, and Maggie hugged herself in fear.
After what seemed like a very long time, the earthquake appeared to be over. Maggie could hear the sound of water rushing below her in the basement. And there was the smell of natural gas in the air. Maggie knew where the main water valve (阀门) was and how to turn it off. Dad had ever shown her before.
Slowly and carefully she came out from under the table. The once tidy home was then almost unrecognizable. Walls had fallen down and many things in the room were in a mess. As Maggie approached the open basement door, she could see the steps. Carefully she made her way down into the dark basement.
While placing her feet firmly on the floor, Maggie felt a sudden pain as a large piece of wood hit her head and shoulder. She fell unconsciously onto a pile of boxes. An hour later, she woke up and found her parents beside her. She smiled weakly at the sight of her parents, her heart filled with a sense of peace after the terrible experience.
24.What can we know from the first two paragraphs?
A.Maggie’s parents would get home at the same time.
B.Maggie was used to earthquake-related preparations.
C.Maggie didn’t know how to handle the disasters at all.
D.Earthquakes frequently happened in Maggie’s living area.
25.What does the underlined word “deafening” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Very loud. B.Quite familiar. C.Perfectly clear. D.Really strange.
26.Why could Maggie know where the main water valve was?
A.She learned it from her school textbook.
B.She found it by accident in the basement.
C.Her dad had shown her before the earthquake.
D.Her mom told her on the phone during the earthquake.
27.How did Maggie feel when she woke up?
A.Excited and shocked. B.Sad and disappointed.
C.Grateful and lucky. D.Frightened and angry.
【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.C

The Earth is home to many places with extraordinary and often extreme climates. In these locations, daily life is shaped by the need to adapt to harsh environmental conditions. From burning deserts to ice-bound settlements, nature never fails to impress with its power and diversity.
Deep in the Sahara Desert lies Araouane, Mali, among the hottest places on the planet. Summers are extremely long and tough — average temperatures can hit 46℃. Strong winds regularly move across the dry land, causing repeated sandstorms. Even with such intense summer heat, the winter season offers much milder weather that is ideal for outdoor activities.
At the other extreme is Oymyakon, Russia, considered one of the coldest inhabited areas in the world. Winter temperatures usually stay around -50℃, and the lowest ever recorded was -71.2℃ in 1924. In the depth of winter, daylight lasts for only three hours each day. Because the ground is icy all year, local people have developed a diet that includes raw fish. Yet in summer, the weather turns surprisingly warm and wet—the summer temperatures can get up to 34℃.
Not far away from Oymyakon lies Verkhoyansk, referred to as the “cold pole”. It holds the record for the largest annual temperature range on Earth-an astonishing 106℃. Winters are bitterly cold and extended — temperatures in January can reach as low as -70℃, while summers can reach 38℃. This area also offers the unique experience of polar days and polar nights.
Closer to us, Xining in China is known for its sharp daily temperature changes, particularly in April. A warm afternoon might see temperatures around 24℃, perfect for light clothing, but by nightfall, it can drop to near 0℃, making heavy coats necessary. This quick change allows people to live through two different seasons in just one day.
28.What problem do strong winds bring to Araouane, Mali?
A.They make winter weather much colder.
B.They cause frequent sandstorms on the dry land.
C.They lead to extremely high summer temperatures.
D.They destroy the outdoor activity areas in winter.
29.Why do local people in Oymyakon eat raw fish?
A.Because raw fish is delicious and popular.
B.Because the daylight lasts for only three hours each day.
C.Because it is a traditional food in their culture.
D.Because the ground is frozen throughout the year.
30.What can we infer from the text about Xining in April?
A.The lowest temperature. B.Light clothing to wear.
C.Light and heavy clothing to prepare. D.Small temperature difference.
31.Which is the best title for the text?
A.Places with Extraordinary and Extreme Climates.
B.People’s Adaption to Extreme Climates.
C.The Hottest and Coldest Places on Earth.
D.Temperature Changes Around the World.
【答案】28.B 29.D 30.C 31.A

29.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Because the ground is icy all year, local people have developed a diet that includes raw fish.(因为这里的土地终年冰封,当地人形成了吃生鱼的饮食习惯。)”可知,奥伊米亚康的当地人吃生鱼是因为这里的土地全年都被冻住了。故选D项。
30.推理判断题。根据第五段中的“A warm afternoon might see temperatures around 24℃, perfect for light clothing, but by nightfall, it can drop to near 0℃, making heavy coats necessary.(温暖的下午气温可能在24℃左右,适合穿轻便的衣服,但到了黄昏,气温会降到接近0℃,必须穿上厚外套。)”可知,四月的西宁午后适合穿轻便衣物,夜晚则需要厚外套,由此可推断人们需要准备薄厚两种衣物。故选C项。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“The Earth is home to many places with extraordinary and often extreme climates.(地球上有许多地方有着奇特且往往极端的气候。)” 故选A项。

Earthquake rescue robots have finished their final tests in Beijing. Their designers say that with these robots, rescuers can get more time to save lives when an earthquake happens.
One of the robots looks like a helicopter. People call it the detector-bot. It is about 4 meters long, and it took about 4 years to make this model. Its main jobs are two things: first, to collect information from the air; second, to send things (up to 30 kilos) to people trapped in an earthquake. This robot has a high-quality 360-degree panoramic camera. It can work day and night, and it can also send the newest photos from the earthquake area.
Dr. Qi Juntong from the Chinese Academy of Science said, “The most important thing is that this robot doesn’t need a remote control. We just set the destination information on it, and then it takes off and lands by itself. It can fly as high as 3,000 meters and as fast as 100 kilometers per hour.”
Another kind of robot has a different function — it can change when the environment changes. Its main job is to look for signs of life in places where human rescuers can’t go. This robot is 40 centimeters long. It has two parts: a detector and a camera. The detector can find trapped people and check for poisonous gas. The camera can work in the dark.
There is also a supply bot for rescuers. It has a 10-meter-long pipe. With this pipe, people trapped in the ruins can get supplies like oxygen and drinks.
Experts said that these robots will start being produced soon. They may become part of the national earthquake rescue team as early as next year.
32.What can we get about the detector-bot from the first three paragraphs?
A.It can carry medical supplies weighing up to 50 kilos to trapped people.
B.It can send real-time images from the disaster area.
C.Its maximum flight altitude is 2,000 meters.
D.It is used for communication purposes.
33.Why is the detector-bot special. according to Dr. Qi Juntong?
A.It is 10 meters long.
B.It has a very long pipe.
C.It can work only during the day.
D.It doesn’t need a remote control.
34.What is the use of the supply-bot’s 10-meter-long pipe?
A.To send oxygen and drinks to trapped people.
B.To take photos in the dark.
C.To find trapped people.
D.To detect poisonous gas.
35.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.The Science Behind Earthquakes

How to Stay Safe During a Thunderstorm
During the summer months, people spend more time outdoors, but the summer brings more than just hot weather, it is also lightning season. Lightning is not something to be taken lightly. 36 . However, there are ways that you can stay safe during a thunderstorm. Here are some tips on how to reduce your risk of being struck by lightning.
Go inside as soon as possible
Staying outside during a thunderstorm is very dangerous. You must be in a building where all the sides are enclosed. Even being in a car is safer than being outside. 37 .
Stay low to the ground
If you cannot get to a shelter, stay as low as possible, so that you are not the tallest thing around in a storm. 38 . Avoid places like fields, or hilltops and stay away from tall, isolated trees.
39
When your mother told you not to run water during a thunderstorm, she was right. Water is a dangerous conductor of electricity, which can travel through it in the pipes and enter your home.
Don’t ignore thunder
If you are close enough to hear thunder, you are close enough to get struck by lighting so take cover immediately. Lightning can actually strike 10 to 15 miles away from the core of the thunderstorm. Some lightning can strike an area where it is not raining yet. 40 .
A.Avoid using running water
B.Don’t touch anything connected to the outdoors
C.If you are hiking on a mountain, go down and not up
D.In fact, lightning is dangerous and can strike without warning
E.So don’t stay in the pool or play an extra game until the rain starts
F.Lightning can still strike even after the storm seems to have passed
G.The metal shell of it spreads the lightning around you and to the ground

Caught in a flood
Mary and her parents were downstairs in the living room. Mary was looking through the windows at the endless rain outside. It had been raining non-stop for three days. She had never seen a storm this bad. It was making her nervous. The wind roared and the rain beat on the roof and windows. Dad was listening to a weather report on the radio, while Mum was putting their important documents and disaster supplies into a bag.
“Mum, Dad,” said Mary suddenly, “I think we should leave here right away!”
“No,” said Dad. “It’s too late! The radio says the city has already been flooded.”
“We can drive our car through the floodwater! Let’s just leave! I’m really scared!” cried Mary.
“We can’t do that, honey,” explained Mum, “otherwise the moving water could wash the car away!”
Mary walked to the door. She was curious to see how much water there was outside. “Don’t open the door!” shouted Mum and Dad at the same time, “The water may flood in!”
Dad moved the dinner table against the door, in case the floodwater forced the door open. Mum waved to Mary to sit on the sofa. “Mary, don’t worry. Everything’s going to be OK,” she said softly, trying her best to comfort Mary. Her voice was calm, but Mary could tell she was worried too.
Without saying a single word, Dad walked to the sofa, sat down and hugged his wife and daughter. The sudden silence in the house seemed to make the wind and rain more frightening outside. What could they do?

【答案】例文
Paragraph1:
After a brief discussion, Mum and Dad made a decision. They decided to move to the second floor with their prepared supplies, because the flood was certain to rise soon. They carried the bag of documents and food upstairs quickly. Dad kept turning a bright flashlight on and off to send rescue signals. Mary held Mum’s hand tightly, and the three of them sat by the window, comforting each other through the frightening waiting. Before long, muddy water filled the whole first floor, which proved their decision right.
Paragraph2:
Finally, the rain stopped. The flood stopped rising as well, and their house stayed solid. Minutes later, Mary spotted a rescue boat passing by her neighborhood. She shouted and waved wildly to catch attention, and rescuers saw their flashlight signals immediately. The whole family got on the boat safely and were taken to a safe shelter. After this disaster, Mary learned that calmness and family bond could help people get through any danger.

A.July 23, 2025. B.July 30, 2025.

22.Which of the following is true about the Australian wildfires?
A.12 people went missing. B.The fires lasted for one day.
C.More than 5,000 people had died. D.Over 500 people had to leave their homes.
23.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Why Turkey has many earthquakes.
B.The bad effects of Australian wildfires.
C.Three serious natural disasters in 2025.
D.How Typhoon Dante hit the Philippines.
B

B.Dr. Qi Juntong: A Great Scientist
C.Earthquake Rescue and Human Heroes
D.Advanced Robots Assisting In Earthquake Rescue

第二节 (满分25分)
【答案】

25.What does the underlined word “deafening” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Very loud. B.Quite familiar. C.Perfectly clear. D.Really strange.
26.Why could Maggie know where the main water valve was?
A.She learned it from her school textbook.
B.She found it by accident in the basement.
C.Her dad had shown her before the earthquake.
D.Her mom told her on the phone during the earthquake.
27.How did Maggie feel when she woke up?
A.Excited and shocked. B.Sad and disappointed.
C.Grateful and lucky. D.Frightened and angry.

B.Dr. Qi Juntong: A Great Scientist
C.Earthquake Rescue and Human Heroes
D.Advanced Robots Assisting In Earthquake Rescue
