Besides, try to teach your study topics to other people. It’s good for you because it makes you think about your learning materials more deeply.
★ Go to sleep after learning
Research shows that going to sleep shortly after a study period will improve your recall of the materials you just studied. That is because when you sleep, your brain turns facts from short-term memory into long-term memory. So if you need to learn something challenging, do it a few hours before you go to sleep. If you can’t sleep during the day, review your notes before going to bed.

Asking for directions is the first thing we do when we arrive in a new place or even when we are just trying to find a place. Knowing how to ask for them can make our life much easier!
Use greetings (问候语) and polite expressions. Starting the conversation with a greeting is necessary. If you want to get a nice answer, begin by saying “hello” first. And some words like “may” “can” and “could” will help you express yourself better.
Build your words. You should know the basic words when asking for directions. It may be useful to remember some famous places. Then try to use the right words when asking for a direction.
Get to know the transportation system (交通系统). Sometimes, it can happen that you are still far from your place. Which kind of public transportation should you choose? You might ask like this, “Is it far? Do I need to take the bus or the subway there?”
Don’t be afraid of using symbols. Every city in the world has its own symbols. You can decrease search time if you know what the most important symbols are in the city. Your place might be around the symbols.
Don’t be too shy to ask. Learn to relax if you get lost somewhere. We all do that now and then, especially when visiting a new city. But always make sure you can ask others for help!
36. What expression can’t help you when asking for directions?
A. Tell me the way to the library.
B. May I ask you the way to the library?

D. Could you please tell me the way to the library?
37. Which of the following may the writer disagree with according to the text?
A. It may be useless to remember some famous places.

As is well known, saying “no” is not easy at all. But sometimes we have to learn to say “no”. To learn to say “no”, we should first understand what’s stopping us from doing so. There are some common reasons why people find it hard to say “no”.
You want to help others. You are a kind person. You don’t want to turn the person away and you want to help when possible, even if it may take up your time.
Wanting to be agreeable. At times, you find you are not in agreement. You don’t want to keep yourself away from the group, so you agree to accept others’ requests.
Afraid of being impolite. I was brought up under the idea that saying “no”, especially to people who are older, is rude. This thinking is common in Asian culture, where face-saving is important. It means not making others look bad or lose face.
Fear of conflict (冲突). The person might be angry if you refuse him. This might lead to an ugly conflict. Even if there isn’t, there might be disagreement which might lead to bad influence in the future.
Fear of losing opportunities (机会). Sometimes, saying “no” means closing doors or losing opportunities. It may make you feel worried. For example, one of my friends was asked to work in another department (部门) in her company. Since she liked her team, she didn’t want to go. My Creative English Homework
Doing English homework helps us review and use what we have learned in class. Creative homework makes us more interested in learning English.
Once our English teacher asked us to write an e-mail to a foreign pen pal. We needed to introduce the Spring Festival in the letter. It improved my writing skills and offered a good chance to share our traditional culture.
In my opinion, we can also draw mind maps or learn English songs. These activities help us master knowledge and develop hobbies. I hope we will get more creative English homework later.

Do you have a good memory? Are you good at remembering things? To help yourself remember what you’ve learned, you are encouraged to use some useful ways to study. Try these suggestions, and you will be surprised how easy it is to remember things.
★ Write down things you need to keep in mind
Research has shown that within two days of getting new information, you forget 60% of it. But if you write down the information, you can remember more. So write down the key information in your textbooks. You can also make a mind map, place the main idea in the centre and use lines to connect related (相关) information.
★ Read and share what you are learning
Saying words out loud can be helpful. According to the research at the University of Waterloo, you are more likely to remember information that you have read aloud to yourself.

35. What is the writer mainly trying to do in the text?
A. To compare different study methods.

第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
However, she didn’t want to say “no” as she felt it would affect her promotion (晋升) opportunities in the future.
