Passage A
Which kind of animals do you like best? Dogs, cats, lions or another kind? How much do you know about the animals that live with us in the world? 1
Animals are much more than food or pets for humans. Animals are smart. Some of them do very unusual things. 2 For example, chimpanzees (黑猩猩) use sticks to get white ants out of the ground. They even teach each other how to use tools.
Scientists find that animals have their own ways to communicate. Did you know dolphins use ultrasound (超声波) to communicate? 3 They also learn to tell the difference between the sound of their own group and that of other groups.
Animals have societies, too. Let’s take ants as an example. 4 Some ants are strong enough to fight against enemies (敌人). Some take care of babies. Others go out to look for food. They have organizations that make the group work well.
5 Long ago, people used pigeons (鸽子) to send mail over long distances. Dogs have been best friends to humans since ancient times. Nowadays some dogs are even trained to guide blind people. Dogs also use their noses to search out drugs for the police.
A.Birds learn to sing from their parents.
B.Animals can help humans in many ways.
C.An ant family usually has millions of ants.
D.There are about 16,000 kinds of ants in the world.
E.Research shows that animals can use tools (工具).
F.Do you know that the earth is home to millions of animals?
G.Take a look here and you will find amazing stories about them.
They also learn to tell the difference between the sound of their own group and that of other groups.
They also learn to tell the difference。between the sound of their own group and that of other groups 是介词短语作定语,修饰 difference。 tell the difference between A and B 意为“区分A和B”。
Some ants are strong enough to fight against enemies.
Some ants are strong enough,to fight against enemies adj./adv. + enough + to do 是固定句型,意为“足够…… fight against 意为“与……
They have organizations that make the group work well.
They have organizations, that make the group work well 是定语从句修饰 organizations。定语从句中,make the group work well 是 make + 宾语 + 动词原形(作宾补) 结构,意为“使……做……”,work 前省略了 to。

PassageB
Fish Memory: More Than Seven Seconds
It’s a popular belief that a fish’s memory lasts for only seven seconds. It may seem that they don’t remember what they’ve eaten or where they’ve been, and they don’t recognize you or any of their friends—every moment in their life would be like seeing the world for the first time.
But a new study has found that fish have a much better memory than we used to think. Actually, certain species of fish can even remember events from as long as 12 days ago. In the study, researchers from MacEwan University in Canada trained a kind of fish called African cichlids to go to a certain area of their tank to get food. They then waited for 12 days before putting them back in the tank again. Researchers used computer software to monitor the fish’s movements. They found that after such a long time the fish still went to the same place where they first got food. This showed that they could remember their past experiences.
In fact, scientists had been thinking for a long time that African cichlids might have a good memory. An earlier study showed that they behaved aggressively in front of certain fish, perhaps because they remembered their past “fights”. But until the latest findings, there was no clear evidence before.
Just as a good memory can make our lives easier, it also plays an important part when a fish is trying to live in the wild. “If fish are able to remember a certain area with safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives at risk,” lead researcher Trevor Hamilton told Live Science.
For a long time fish were placed far below chimpanzees, dolphins, elephants, monkeys, dogs and mice on the list of smart animals. But this study has given scientists a new understanding of their intelligence.
1.According to the article, people commonly believe that ________.
A.fish don’t recognize any of their friends B.a fish’s memory lasts for only seven minutes
C.fish can only remember part of their past experiences D.fish can remember things that happened long time ago
2.What does the underlined word “monitor” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Create. B.Change. C.Control. D.Check.
3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Only African cichlids have a good memory. B.African cichlids always treat others aggressively.
C.African cichlids may remember things for 12 days. D.African cichlids belonged to the list of smart animals.
4.How can fish benefit most from a good memory?
A.They can remember their enemies and fight. B.They can remember where to get food and live.
C.They can remember their friends and help each other. D.They can remember where to escape when in danger.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.Fish Are Not as Smart as Chimpanzees B.The Seven-Second Memory Myth of Fish
C.How to Train Fish to Remember Food D.A Study on African Cichlids’ Behavior
1.原句:(第一段第二句)It may seem that they don't remember what they've eaten or where they've been, and they don't recognize you or any of their friends—every moment in their life would be like seeing the world for the first time.
分析:It seems that... for the first time 意为“第一次”。
They found that after such a long time the fish still went to the same place where they first got food.
分析:主干是 They found that...,that 引导宾语从句。从句中,after such a long time 作时间状语,the fish still went to the same place 是主句,where they first got food 是定语从句修饰 the same place。 such a long time 中 such 修饰名词短语。
If fish are able to remember a certain area with safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives at risk.
分析:If 引导条件状语从句,主句是 they will be able to go back to that area。without putting their lives at risk be able to 表示“能够”,强调能力。 put... at risk 意为“使……

Passage1
Scientists are creating robots that can be used in many different areas of life. Recently a new kind of robot which looks like a penguin has been developed. The penguin robot helps scientists get closer to emperor penguins (帝企鹅) to know more about their behaviour (行为).
Emperor penguins are famous as shy animals. They usually feel nervous and run away when scientists go towards them. This will cause problems to their hearts. To solve it, a team of scientists created a remote control vehicle (遥控车). This vehicle allowed the scientists to study the penguins from over 200 metres away. It could move up to the penguins slowly and quietly without making them run away. It was also used to help make the documentary (纪录片) March of the Penguins.
The scientists still wanted to watch emperor penguins much closer. After trying many times, they developed their latest robot which was like a little grey penguin. It had four black wheels, two black arms and a black-and-white painted face. The wheels were prepared for the robot to walk on the thick snow easily. This new robot didn’t scare (惊吓) the penguins. They even sang songs to welcome the robot and listened for a response. But the penguins were very unhappy when there was no answer. The scientists didn’t programme (编写程序) the penguin robot to make a sound. Next time they will have the robot sing songs.
Thanks to the robots, scientists could do much more research on emperor penguins.
1.Why was the penguin robot developed?
A.To know about scientists’ heart problems.
B.To help scientists walk on the thick snow.
C.To learn about emperor penguins’ behaviour.
D.To help emperor penguins look for more food.
2.How do emperor penguins feel when scientists go towards them?
A.Sad. B.Angry. C.Excited. D.Nervous.
3.What does the word “response” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Plan. B.Answer. C.Lesson. D.Reason.
4.What will the penguin robot do next time according to the passage?
A.Sing songs. B.Swim in the sea.
C.Take photos. D.Dance on the snow.
5.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Penguins in the film. B.Penguins in the zoo.
C.Robots for daily housework. D.Robots for studying penguins.
Recently a new kind of robot which looks like a penguin has been developed.
分析:主干是 a new kind of robot has been developed。which looks like a penguin 是定语从句,修饰先行词 robot。
This vehicle allowed the scientists to study the penguins from over 200 metres away.
This vehicle allowed the scientists to study the penguins, from over 200 metres away allow sb. to do sth. from... away 表示“从……
After trying many times, they developed their latest robot which was like a little grey penguin.
分析: After trying many times 是介词短语作时间状语,主干是 they developed their latest robot, which was like a little grey penguin 是非限制性定语从句修饰 robot(限制性定语从句也成立,此处用逗号隔开表示补充说明)。

Passage2
(2025·四川省遂宁市)In science museums, you usually see animal specimens (标本) lying silently. Now they are not quiet anymore. Thanks to AI, visitors to a museum in England can talk to them now.
The museum works with an AI company so that it is possible for people and the natural world to communicate with each other. It brings 13 of its specimens back to life.
Visitors only need to use their smartphones to scan the QR codes (二维码) next to the specimens to begin talking with them—either by text or voice. The animals will reply as if they’re still alive.
This is a new way for people to learn about animals. The museum wants to see how this can help people connect with nature better.
“This is just a try using AI technology in nature science. Will it help people know more about the specimen animals? Will it influence people’s opinions about them? For example, will people like the mouse better after hearing its voice? We are not sure.” said Jack Ashby, a worker of the museum.
And you don’t have to speak English, by the way—the animals are multilingual. So no matter what languages you speak, the animals can talk to you in a way that’s easy for you to understand.
The project engineers hope to make people care more about the biodiversity crisis According to the most recent research, wildlife populations dropped by 69% between 1970 and 2018. And animals are dying out at a faster speed.
Let’s hope the new technology will be both fun and helpful.
1.What does AI do in the science museum?
A.It helps the animals to live longer. B.It helps the museum to make more money.
C.It helps visitors to talk with the specimens. D.It helps the scientists to make specimens.
2.How does writer express his opinion in paragraph 5?
A.By listing numbers. B.By comparing facts.
C.By explaining reasons. D.By asking questions.
3.What does the underlined sentence “the animals are multilingual” mean in paragraph 6?
A.The animals can’t speak any languages. B.The animals can speak only one language.
C.The animals can speak two languages. D.The animals can speak several different languages.
4.Why does the museum work with the AI company?
A.Because the museum hopes to make the number of animals increase.
B.Because the museum wishes visitors to learn more about animals.
C.Because the museum would like to help visitors communicate with each other.
D.Because the museum wants to teach visitors how to use smartphones in the museum.
5.What does the writer hope new technology will be like?
A.Interesting and useful. B.Cheap and smart.
C.Smooth and safe. D.Convenient and fast.
The museum works with an AI company so that it is possible for people and the natural world to communicate with each other.
The museum works with an AI company,so that 引导目的状语从句。从句中,it is possible for... to communicate 是 it 作形式主语的句型,真正的主语是 for people and the natural world to communicate with each other。so that 引导目的状语从句,意为“以便、为了”,从句中常用 can/could/may/might 等情态动词。it is possible for sb. to do
Visitors only need to use their smartphones to scan the QR codes next to the specimens to begin talking with them—either by text or voice.
Visitors need to use their smartphones。to scan the QR codes 是不定式作目的状语,next to the specimens 是介词短语作后置定语修饰 the QR codes,to begin talking with them 是不定式作目的状语。
So no matter what languages you speak, the animals can talk to you in a way that's easy for you to understand.
分析:no matter what languages you speak 是让步状语从句,主干是 the animals can talk to you in a way, that's easy for you to understand 是定语从句修饰 a way。 定语从句 that's easy for you to understand 中,easy for you to understand 是“形容词 + 不定式”结构,不定式与主语 that(指代 a way)之间存在动宾关系。

(2026·黑龙江省绥化市)In 1902, British explorer Robert Falcon Scott saw many big black-and-white birds at Ross Island, Antarctica (南极洲罗斯岛). It was the first home of emperor penguins (帝企鹅) ever found. Now, only 124 years after that place was discovered, emperor penguins have been listed as endangered wild animals. What makes them in such danger?
Emperor penguins rely on “fast” ice—sea ice strongly connected to the land—for nine months of the year. It’s where the little penguins are born and grow until they have waterproof feathers It’s also a safe place for adults to moult (脱毛) every year. They stay on the ice while their swimming feathers grow back.
But global warming has led to record-low levels of Antarctic sea ice since 2016. When sea ice breaks up early, the whole area can fall into the water. The little penguins that aren’t fully grown may have difficulty swimming out. Even if some penguins get out of the water, they’re completely wet and will freeze to death.
The decrease in Antarctic sea ice has put emperor penguins in great danger. Between 2009 and 2018, the number of emperor penguins fell by 10%. Scientists say they could die out by the end of this century—unless we take action now. To better protect them, we must stop burning fossil fuels (化石燃料) as they produce a large amount of CO2.
The sad story of emperor penguins is a clear warning: A warming world cannot be saved tomorrow. We must act now before it’s too late.
1.How does the writer begin the passage?
A.By listing endangered wild animals.
B.By telling emperor penguins’ past and present.
C.By comparing emperor penguins to other animals.
2.Why do emperor penguins need “fast” ice?
A.To swim in the water safely.
B.To travel to Ross Island, Antarctica.
C.To raise babies and change feathers.
3.Which of the following will happen when sea ice breaks up early?
A.Adult penguins will grow new feathers.
B.Little penguins will be in danger in water.
C.Young penguins will learn to swim faster.
4.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C.
5.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Act now to save emperor penguins.
B.Less sea ice puts penguins in great danger.
C.Emperor penguins may die out this century.
Passage 2
Humpback whales (座头鲸) live in the sea. They can weigh as much as ninety thousand pounds. That’s as heavy as thirty cars. These whales can live for fifty years. Scientists can tell a whale’s age by looking in its ears.
The most surprising thing is that male (雄性) humpback whales sing songs! Their songs start with a hum. The noises become louder and might last up to 20 minutes. You can hear whale songs 20 miles away. If you dive underwater, you can hear the noises from 100 miles away. Scientists don’t know why the whales sing. Some think they are trying to keep in touch with others. But many people say the whale songs could bring them joy.
Whales sometimes catch food in groups. Humpback whales join up underwater. When they come upon a group of fish, one whale swims in a circle. Then, it blows a lot of bubbles (气泡). The bubbles cause the fish to swim to the surface. Then, the whales swim up and quickly eat a big meal.
Being huge does not keep these whales safe. The sea has become less safe for humpback whales in the past thirty years. Ships give out oil in the sea, which can make the whales sick. People also throw rubbish in the sea. It is hard for the whales to avoid oil. Humpback whales need help from both scientists and common people.
Scientists enjoy studying these whales and their songs. Besides, they’ve got good reasons for keeping whales safe. Today, the humpback whales and their environment are protected by law.

Passage 3
Plains wanderers (平原漫游鸟) are small, rare (罕见的) birds that live in grasslands. Unlike most birds, female plains wanderers (雌鸟) are larger and stronger than males (雄鸟). Females take the lead in protecting their nests and babies from animals like foxes, while males often sit on the eggs to keep them warm. These birds are hard to find because their feathers (羽毛) mix with the grass, making them look like part of the landscape (风景). Sadly, their numbers have been dropping because people are taking over their grassland homes for farms and cities.
To save them, scientists are using AI. The key is the birds’ calls. Mother wanderers make soft sounds to talk to their babies and warn about danger. These calls are quiet and easy to miss, but AI can hear them clearly. Scientists put microphones in the grasslands to record sounds all day and night. Then they put these recordings into a computer program. The AI learns to tell the wanderers’ calls apart from other noises, like the wind blowing or insects chirping (鸣叫). This helps scientists find where the mother birds are and how many babies they have.
“AI helps us monitor these birds without disturbing (打扰) them,” says Dr. Lee, who leads the project. “We can find the most important areas for them and work to protect those places.” Once, the AI helped scientists find a hidden nest with three baby birds. Without AI, they might not have found it. Thanks to this technology, there is new hope for these rare birds, showing that AI can be a powerful tool in saving wildlife.
1.What do we know about plains wanderers?
A.Males are larger than females.
B.They live in many different areas.
C.They are easy to find in grasslands.
D.Mother birds are bigger and protect babies.
2.What does “monitor” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.watch B.catch C.feed D.play with
3.How do scientists use AI to find plains wanderers?
A.By watching where they fly. B.By studying calls from mother birds.
C.By taking photos of their nests. D.By counting their eggs in the grass.
4.What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A.AI disturbs the life of plains wanderers a lot.
B.Male plains wanderers never look after eggs.
C.Human activities are bad for plains wanderers.
D.People have completely saved plains wanderers with AI.
5.What is the passage mainly about?
A.What AI can do in daily life.
B.Why plains wanderers are rare.
C.How mother wanderers protect their chicks.
D.How scientists use AI to protect plains wanderers.

Passage A
Which kind of animals do you like best?
They have organizations, that make the group work well 是定语从句修饰 organizations。定语从句中,make the group work well 是 make + 宾语 + 动词原形(作宾补) 结构,意为“使……做……”,work 前省略了 to。
【答案】1.G 2.E 3.A 4.C 5.B
根据前文“Which kind of animals do you like best? Dogs, cats, lions or another kind? How much do you know about the animals that live with us in the world?”
2.根据后文“For example, chimpanzees (黑猩猩) use sticks to get white ants out of the ground.”
3.根据前文“Did you know dolphins use ultrasound (超声波) to communicate?” 故选A。
4.根据前文“Animals have societies, too. Let’s take ants as an example.”
5.根据后文“Long ago, people used pigeons (鸽子) to send mail over long distances. Dogs have been best friends to humans since ancient times. Nowadays some dogs are even trained to guide blind people. Dogs also use their noses to search out drugs for the police.”

【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.B 5.B
根据第一段“It’s a popular belief that a fish’s memory lasts for only seven seconds…they don’t recognize you or any of their friends—every moment in their life would be like seeing the world for the first time.”
2.根据第二段“Researchers used computer software to monitor the fish’s movements. They found that after such a long time the fish still went to the same place where they first got food.”
3.根据第二段“Actually, certain species of fish can even remember events from as long as 12 days ago…They found that after such a long time the fish still went to the same place where they first got food. This showed that they could remember their past experiences.”
4.根据第四段“‘If fish are able to remember a certain area with safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives at risk,’ lead researcher Trevor Hamilton told Live Science.”

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.D 4.B 5.A

Passage 1
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.B 4.C 5.A
2.根据第二段第二、三句“It’s where the little penguins are born and grow... It’s also a safe place for adults to moult…”
3.根据第三段“When sea ice breaks up early...The little penguins that aren’t fully grown may have difficulty swimming out...freeze to death.”
5.根据最后一段最后一句“We must act now before it’s too late.”

根据第一段最后一句“Scientists can tell a whale’s age by looking in its ears.”
在水下聚集);接着“one whale swims in a circle”(c. 一只鲸鱼转圈);然后“blows a lot of bubbles... cause the fish to swim to the surface”(d. 气泡使鱼浮到水面);最后“whales swim up and quickly eat”(a.
4.根据第四段“The sea has become less safe... in the past thirty years”以及“need help”可推断,环境恶化导致过去三十年座头鲸的数量可能减少了,生存受到威胁。
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 4.C 5.D
根据第一段第二第三句“Unlike most birds, female plains wanderers are larger and stronger than males. Females take the lead in protecting their nests and babies...”可知,雌鸟体型更大且负责保护幼鸟,对应D选项“Mother birds are bigger and protect babies.”。A选项与原文相反;B选项原文仅提到它们生活在草地(grasslands);C选项原文明确说明“These birds are hard to find”。
2.根据最后一段“AI helps us monitor these birds without disturbing them... We can find the most important areas for them and work to protect those places.” catch(捕捉)、feed(喂养)、play with(玩耍)均不符合语境。
3.根据第二段中“The key is the birds’ calls. Mother wanderers make soft sounds... AI can hear them clearly.”以及“AI learns to tell the wanderers’ calls apart from other noises”可知,科学家是通过录制并分析母鸟的叫声来发现它们的踪迹,与B选项“By studying calls from mother birds.”
4.根据第一段最后一句“Sadly, their numbers have been dropping because people are taking over their grassland homes for farms and cities.” A选项与原文“witho ut disturbing”矛盾;B选项与原文“males often sit on the eggs”矛盾;D选项原文只提到“new hope”,并未表示已经完全拯救。
(How scientists use AI to protect plains wanderers.)。
