They are also great helpers for primary school students after school.
Mopping robots (扫地机器人) are popular with people who are too busy to do housework. They are more popular with office ladies. They can help people clean dirt, dust and hair easily. With the help of them, people don’t need to spend time on housework. They can enjoy a more relaxing life after work.
As for old people, an electric foot basin (电动洗脚盆) is the best invention. It is a good choice to buy one for your grandparents. How much paper do you use every year? Probably you can’t answer this question quickly. In 2022, the world’s use of paper was about fifty-eight kilograms for each person in a year. It’s reported that the amount (数量) of paper a country uses shows how advanced the country is.
The Chinese first made paper about 2, 000 years ago. At that time Chinese paper was not made from the wood of trees. It was made from the hair (植物叶茎上的茸毛)—like parts of certain plants. Today in Finland, which makes the best paper in the world, the paper industry (制造业) is the biggest in the land. The biggest machine can make a piece of paper 8,300 meters long and 6 meters wide in one minute.
Each year, more and more things are made of paper. But only half of the paper that is made is used for books and newspapers. There are many other uses. We have had paper cups, plates, and dishes for a long time. But now we hear that chairs, tables, and even beds can be made of paper. With paper boots and shoes, you can wear paper hats, paper dresses, and paper raincoats. When you have used them once, you throw them away and buy new ones. Paper is also good for keeping you warm. The latest use in paper seems to be paper houses. They are not small houses for children to play in, but real big houses for people to live in. You can buy a house with three main rooms for about ¥500. You can put it up yourself in a few hours, and you can use it for about five years. People have made paper boats, but they have not yet made paper airplanes or cars. Just wait—they probably will.

The Dead Sea is located (位于) in the Jordan Rift Valley in southwest Asia. It is about 50 kilometres long and 15 kilometers wide at its widest point. It sits at about 430 meters below sea level, making it the lowest point on Earth’s land.
What’s interesting is that the Dead Sea isn’t ____41____ a sea. It’s a lake with a salt concentration (含盐度) of more than 30 percent, which is about eight times saltier than typical seawater. This makes it one of the ____42____ bodies of water on Earth.

The high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea allows anyone to float (漂浮) well, ____47____ the need for life buoys (救生圈). In fact, many people visit the Dead Sea every year on vacation. A Chinese 2D animated (动画的) film called Nobody has become a big hit this summer. It was made by Shanghai Animation Film Studio and came out on August 2, 2025. By August 11, it had made 574 million yuan. This broke the record for Chinese 2D animated films — it went past the 565 million yuan of Big Fish & Begonia (《大鱼海棠》). It also got a score of 8.6 on Douban, and both children and grown-ups love it.
The film tells a warm story. It is based on a short film from Chinese Tales. The story is about these little monsters (怪物): a pig, a toad (蛤蟆), a weasel (黄鼠狼), and a gorilla (猩猩). They used to work for a mountain king, but they lost their jobs by chance. To live, they pretend (假装) to be Tang Monk and his group from Journey to the West and start a trip to the west. On the way, they change — at first they only look for food, but later they save villagers. There is a famous sentence in the film: “We may be nobodies in society, but we are pillars (支柱) at home.” This sentence makes people think about life. Its English name Nobody tells us: even small and common people can be heroes.
The film’s success has also made its related (相关的) products popular. More than 300 products, from soft toys to school things like pens and notebooks, sell very fast. Nobody is not just a movie. It brings happiness to people and teaches us that everyone can be a hero.

Many people do not know what to do in face of a decision, big or small. Most decisions aren’t life- changers. But often, the decision isn’t between this or that, it’s between acting or not. If this challenges you, here is some advice.
Jog (慢跑) or ride a bike to nowhere. Just start moving in hopes of leaving the familiar (熟悉的). Walk down every street you can find until you lose your way. Try to lose yourself more often. It’ll make you better at making a decision.
Sit outside without any technology for an hour. Let yourself get bored. Can you hear the birds singing? The wind blowing? Try to do this once a week, then every other day, then every day. Do something that scares you. People who have trouble making decisions fear mistakes. Tell someone you love them. Laugh out loud in a public place. Give a speech to a stranger. And when you do this, remember how you feel. When you’re scared by a risky (危险的) situation the next time, tell yourself that you didn’t die. And try to trust the process in the future.
Some of these things may seem silly, but the more you do them, the more you’ll control yourself.
53. The passage tells three pieces of ________ on how to make a ________.
54. Just start moving to ________ the familiar and get ________, which will make you better at making a decision.
55. Sit outside with ________ technology for an hour or do something to make yourself ________.

例文
Dear Peter,
I understand your feelings. In my family, I must finish homework before watching TV. I agree with it because it helps me study better and makes me focus on schoolwork every day. If I disagree with a rule, I will talk to my parents politely and share my true ideas calmly. I think family rules are important. They help us form good habits and keep us safe in daily life. Although rules seem strict, they show parents’ deep love. I hope you can understand your parents better and communicate with your parents often. Try to understand your family.
Yours,
Li Ping
