My mom received a large box of cookies from her property management company for
Christmas. It was a lovely deed, but neither she nor I eat cookies so we decided to pass along the
gift to someone who would really enjoy it.It ended up being a fun exercise of figuring out who
to give the cookies to!
Airports are absolutely a busy place during the holidays;I figured, why not give them to a
busy airport worker?I put them in with my stuff and brought them to the airport.I waited in line
at the check-in counter for my flight home.
I had plenty of time to observe the line of airport workers, and I started wondering who
would serve me and unknowingly become my gift receiver. When it became my turn,I
approached the worker with my bag.He was pleasant but I could tell he was a bit tired from the
holiday queues. He took my bag and gave me my boarding pass.
“Do you like cookies?”I asked.“Of course!Who doesn't?”he said.
"Here,Merry Christmas!"I said as I put down the already-wrapped cookie box on the
counter.
He smiled and said "Thank you!Merry Christmas indeed!"and began to process the next
passenger.I smiled and went on my way to the security line.
What could have been a boring, dull wait in a check-in line turned into an exciting wait to
give something small to someone who could use a treat.I was content knowing that he had a box
of cookies to look forward to after a long day at work.
