Over the last few centuries, there have been many changes in our lives. To start with, people were not able to travel such a long distance in such a short time in the past. Planes were not very popular at that time because they used to be a very expensive way to travel. Nowadays, we have fast, comfortable vehicles, such as cars and high-speed trains. Secondly, in the past, people had to work much harder because they did not have the tools that we have today. Today, most of the difficult and dangerous work is done by computers and machines. Thirdly, in the past, the living conditions were not as good as they are now. There were no bathrooms or running water in many houses, and many people could not buy things like fridges, TV sets or washing machines. Now, most families have several of these things. Lastly, communications have become much easier than before. In the past, we kept in touch with others by writing letters or sending faxes, but now we have many other ways to choose from, such as making a phone call, sending emails or messages and chatting online. Moreover, we can even see the people we care about when making a phone call through mobile phones, and we can see each other while chatting online. The most surprising thing is that we can make a phone call with the astronauts and see them when they are in space. What a magical thing! Thanks to technology, especially the Internet, our lives have become much easier and happier than before. I’m sure they will become more wonderful in the future. Don’t you think so? 1.Why were planes not so popular many years ago? A.Because they were not able to fly long distances. B.Because they were very expensive. C.Because they were not fast enough. 2.What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us? A.Many families have TV sets and washing machines nowadays. B.There were no bathrooms or running water before. C.Living conditions have been improved. 3.The writer’s last example for great changes in people’s lives is about ________. A.traveling B.living conditions C.communication 4.What’s the best title for this passage? A.Great Changes in Our LivesB.Fast Development of Science C.We Live a Happy Life Now 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.C 4.A 【导语】本文从交通、工作、生活条件、通讯等方面介绍了近几个世纪以来人们生活中发生的巨大变化,展现了科技发展带来的便利。 1.第二段提到“Planes were not very popular at that time because they used to be a very expensive way to travel”,说明多年前飞机不受欢迎的原因是价格昂贵。 2. 3.第五段提到“Lastly, communications have become much easier than before...”,作者最后列举的例子属于通讯方面的变化。 4. How do we know the time? A clock, a watch or a mobile phone can help us. However, many years ago there were no clocks and knowing the time was not so easy. Over the centuries people have developed different ways of telling the time. About 5,500 years ago, the Egyptians invented the sun clock. This was a tall stone building. Its shadow (影子) showed the movement of the sun. So people were able to know midday. The Egyptians made a sundial (日晷) about 3,500 years ago. It was smaller than the sun clock and could let people know the time for half a day. On cloudy days or at night it was impossible to tell the time with a sun clock or a sundial. Water clocks were the first clocks not to use the sun. The idea is simple. Water flows (流动), and it shows the hours. The Egyptians used water clocks about 3,400 years ago. These clocks were popular in the Middle East and China. But they failed to make people know the exact time. In the 13th century, the mechanical (机械的) clock was invented. This was more exact, but it was expensive to make one. Over the next few centuries, springs (发条) were added around 1500. This made people be able to get the correct time and allowed clocks to be smaller. In 1927, the first quartz clock was developed. It was also cheaper for ordinary people to own a clock. People began depending on them more and more to run businesses, markets and so on. More recently, in 1956, the digital clock came. And nowadays satellites (卫星) send our mobile phones the time to the exact second. There has been a lot of progress in timekeeping. Clocks are always changing but some things never change. Many of us still have trouble getting out of bed on time and not being late for school or work. 1.According to the passage, we can’t use a ________ to tell the time on a rainy day. A.water clock B.sun clock C.digital clock D.mechanical clock 2.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “ordinary” in the third paragraph? 3.How many kinds of clocks are mentioned in the passage? A.Five. B.Six. C.Seven. D.Eight. 4.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage?(①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2 …) A. B. C. D. 5.What does the passage mainly talk about? A.The importance of time. B.The kinds of clocks. C.The inventions of clocks. D.The development of timekeeping. 根据“On cloudy days or at night it was impossible to tell the time with a sun clock or a sundial.” 根据“In 1927, the first quartz clock was developed. It was also cheaper for ordinary people to own a clock.” 根据“the Egyptians invented the sun clock...The Egyptians made a sundial about 3,500 years ago...Water clocks were the first clocks not to use the sun...In the 13th century, the mechanical (机械的) clock was invented...In 1927, the first quartz clock was developed...More recently, in 1956, the digital clock came.” 故选A。 5. D。 People in our village lived by planting fruit trees when I was very young. My grandmother always took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because we were short of water there. One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals (水渠) and other projects began to be built in my village. “Who are they?” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied. Shortly after, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother. One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project (水利工程) was completed, a policy was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river. Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside. Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city. However, we should not forget our hometowns, where we are from. 1.What was it that troubled the villagers most? A.They had too much work. B.They could only grow fruit trees. C.It was not convenient to go up the hill. D.There wasn’t enough water in the orchard. 2.Which is closest in meaning to the underlined phrase “devoted themselves to”? A.prepared much for B.gave money to C.put a lot of effort into D.looked forward to it 3.What is the right order of the things that happened according to the passage? ①The writer moved to the city for his junior high school. ②The villagers had to carry water from the river to water the trees. ③With the people’s effort, the countryside changed a lot in many ways. ④In order to solve the shortage of water, people started to build the water conservation project. A.②①④③ B.②④①③ C.①③④② D.①④③② 4.What can we infer from the passage? A.The grandmother doesn’t like to live in the city. B.The village is a place of interest for tourists now. C.There will be more fruit production in the village. D.More people like to work in the country nowadays. 根据第1段“...the production level of fruit was still low because we were short of water there.” 根据第5段“Thank those good men who have devoted themselves to the development of our countryside.” 根据第4段奶奶的话“after the water conservation project...a policy was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water...” C。 With the development of China, more and more foreigners come to China to visit, to study, to work or to live. French rider Valentin Debise crossed the finish line on a Chinese motorcycle called ZXMOTO 820RR-RS. He won the race with a lead of nearly 4 seconds! This was a historic moment because it was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand had ever won at the World Superbike Championship. The man behind this victory is Zhang Xue. His story is like a real-life racing movie. Born in a small village in Hunan Province in 1987, Zhang Xue had a difficult childhood. He was so poor that he had to drop out of school at age 14. He became a motorcycle repair apprentice, sleeping in a small room above the repair shop. His hands were always covered in oil, but his heart was full of dreams. At 19, Zhang saw a TV program about motorcycle racing. He was so excited that he rode 100 kilometers in heavy rain to catch up with the TV crew, just to ask for a chance to work in racing. People laughed at him, but he didn’t give up. For the next 20 years, Zhang worked day and night. He taught himself engineering and design. In 2024, he started his own company, naming it “ZXMOTO” after himself. Many people thought he was crazy to compete with big international brands like Yamaha and Ducati. But Zhang believed in himself. “When my effort is ten times that of my opponents, why shouldn’t I win?” he often said. When the race ended in Portugal, Zhang was watching the live broadcast in Chongqing, China. He jumped up, waved the national flag, and burst into tears. “We’ve done it!” he shouted. “This is not just my dream. It’s a win for Chinese manufacturing!” The ZXMOTO motorcycle that won the race was completely designed and built in China. It proved that “Made in China” can be the best in the world. 1.How does the writer begin the story? A.By asking the readers a question. B.By describing a historic racing event. C.By introducing Zhang Xue’s childhood. D.By introducing the “World Superbike Championship”. 2.Which is the correct order of the following events in Zhang Xue’s life? a. He dropped out of school and became a repair apprentice. b. He started his own company named “ZXMOTO” in 2024. c. He rode 100 kilometers in heavy rain to catch up with a TV crew. d. A French rider won the WSBK race on a ZXMOTO motorcycle. A.a→b→c→d B.b→a→c→d C.a→c→b→d D.c→a→b→d 3.What does the writer mean by saying “His story is like a real-life racing movie.”? A.It means Zhang Xue worked as an actor in racing movies. B.It means his life is encouraging like exciting movie plots. C.It means his story has been made into a racing movie. D.It means he enjoys watching racing movies every day. 4.What can we learn from Zhang Xue’s experience? A.Hard work helps people achieve success from any starting point. B.A rich family background leads to success in business every time. C.Dropping out of school helps students learn practical skills. D.Winning world championships depends mainly on luck and chance. 1.根据文章第一段“On March 28, 2026, history was made in Portimão, Portugal. French rider Valentin Debise crossed the finish line... He won the race...” 2.根据第二段“drop out of school at age 14. He became a motorcycle repair apprentice,”可知,事件a(他辍学后成为了一名维修学徒)最早;根据第三段“At 19, Zhang saw a TV program about motorcycle racing. He was so excited that he rode 100 kilometers in heavy rain to”可知,事件c(他冒着大雨骑了100公里,只为赶上电视摄制组。)其次;根据第四段“In 2024, he started his own company, naming it ‘ZXMOTO’ after himself.”可知,事件b(他于2024年创办了自己的公司,名为“张雪机车”。)再次;根据第一段“On March 28, 2026, history was made in Portimão, Portugal. French rider Valentin Debise crossed the finish line on a Chinese motorcycle called ZXMOTO 820RR-RS. He won the race... This was a historic moment because it was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand had ever won at the World Superbike Championship.”可知,事件d(一名法国车手驾驶张雪摩托车赢得了WSBK赛事冠军。) 4.通读全文可知,张雪出身贫寒(had a difficult childhood),但通过二十年如一日的努力(my effort is ten times)和坚持,最终让中国品牌赢得世界冠军。 Imagine someone who could explain one culture to another, write stories loved by people across the world, and even invent a machine to help people understand different languages. That person was Lin Yutang. He was a writer, translator, and inventor all in one. His life was filled with curiosity and creativity, bringing East and West closer together. As a child, Lin loved reading and often asked questions about life. He wanted to understand how the world worked, and that curiosity stayed with him throughout his life. He studied in Shanghai, then went to Harvard University, and later earned his PhD (博士学位) in Germany. Living in both China and the West, he learned different languages and ways of thinking. This helped him become a cultural bridge between East and West. Lin worked hard to share Chinese culture with the world. His writing was clear and easy to read. In books like My Country and My People, he introduced Chinese ideas and daily life to Western readers. He also wrote novels such as Moment in Peking, showing how Chinese people stayed strong during wartime. Besides writing, he helped create a Chinese-English dictionary, making it easier for people around the world to understand Chinese words. Lin also introduced Western culture to China. In 1924, he brought the idea of “humor” to the country. The Chinese word “幽默” was born from the English word. Lin believed that having a sense of humor showed a kind, open, and wise attitude (态度) toward life. His creativity didn’t stop with writing and translation. Lin was also an inventor. Chinese characters made typing difficult, so he spent years designing a Chinese typewriter (打字机). In 1947, his MingKwai typewriter finally came out. Teachers, publishers, and researchers all found it very useful. 1.What can we know about Lin Yutang from the passage? A.He was better at inventing machines than writing stories. B.He became famous mainly because of his Chinese typewriter. C.He used his experiences in both China and the West in his work. D.He devoted most of his time to translating Chinese novels into English. 2.Why does the writer mention Lin Yutang’s typewriter in the last paragraph? A.To show that Lin was also successful in science. B.To prove that Chinese characters were hard to type. C.To explain why teachers and researchers liked his work. D.To give an example of Lin’s creativity in different fields. 3.Which of the following is the best choice to work as the ending of the passage? A.Lin Yutang’s curiosity and creativity helped bring two worlds together. B.Today, many people still read Lin Yutang’s books and enjoy his sense of humor. C.Lin Yutang once said that life is a journey, and we should enjoy every moment of it. D.The MingKwai typewriter was later improved by other inventors and became more popular. 1.根据第二段中“Living in both China and the West, he learned different languages and ways of thinking. This helped him become a cultural bridge between East and West.” 2.最后一段首句提到“His creativity didn’t stop with writing and translation. Lin was also an inventor.”,随后介绍了中文打字机的发明。 In 1926, Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim across the English Channel—but the journey to get there was anything but easy. Born in New York to German parents, Ederle learned to swim as a child and quickly fell in love with the water. By the age of 17, she had already won a gold medal and two bronze medals at the 1924 Paris Olympics. But she wanted more than Olympic glory. She set her sights on the English Channel, a 34 kilometer stretch of water that had been crossed by only five men at the time. Her first attempt in 1925 ended in failure. After seven hours of swimming, her coach ordered her to stop, fearing for her safety. But Ederle refused to give up. She trained even harder for the next year, this time with a new coach who believed in her. On August 6, 1926, Ederle entered the water from Cape Gris-Nez, France. The weather was terrible—strong winds and high waves made the crossing extremely difficult. For much of the journey, she was accompanied by boats to guide her and provide her with food and drink. After 14 hours and 34 minutes, she finally reached the shore of Kingsdown, England, becoming not only the first woman but also the fastest person ever to swim the Channel at that time. When she returned to New York, she was honored with a ticker-tape parade—a celebration usually reserved for war heroes and world leaders. More than two million people lined the streets to welcome her home. Ederle’s achievement was more than a sports record. She proved that a woman could do anything a man could do, and she did it by simply refusing to stop swimming. 1.What happened to Gertrude Ederle in 1924? A.She won medals at the Olympics. B.She first attempted to swim the English Channel. C.She set a new world record. D.She gave up swimming completely. 2.Why did Ederle’s first attempt in 1925 fail? A.She got lost in the water. B.She was too young to finish the swim. C.Her coach stopped her for safety reasons. D.She was not physically prepared. 3.What does the underlined word “accompanied” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? A.Carried. B.Stopped. C.Followed. D.Guided. 4.According to the text, what made Gertrude Ederle’s achievement so meaningful? A.She was the youngest to swim across the English Channel. A.traveling B.living conditions C.communication 4.What’s the best title for this passage? A.Great Changes in Our LivesB.Fast Development of Science C.We Live a Happy Life Now How do we know the time? B.The kinds of clocks. C.The inventions of clocks. D.The development of timekeeping. People in our village lived by planting fruit trees when I was very young. Imagine someone who could explain one culture to another, write stories loved by people across the world, and even invent a machine to help people understand different languages. In 1926, Gertrude Ederle became the first woman to swim across the English Channel—but the journey to get there was anything but easy. The 12-meter rocket which had a thrust (推力) of 20 tons, reached a height of 3.7 kilometers, setting a new local record. His 5-person team designed and built it in just 15 days, using mostly civilian parts to cut costs by over 90%. Lu’s story tells us that nothing is impossible if we have courage and persistence (毅力).
