Nature is amazing! Look closely at the world of insects, and you will find many interesting facts. Let's take butterflies as an example. They have beautiful, colourful wings and strong, fantastic flying skills. On summer days, you always see them flying freely over flower gardens and wild fields.
But do you know how a butterfly grows? It is one of the most fantastic wonders(奇观)of nature. First, a butterfly lays a small egg on a leaf of a plant.
It's hard to believe that the egg will become something completely different in a few days. It becomes a walking insect called a caterpillar. It now has legs, eyes and a large body. A new life begins. The caterpillar can eat, walk and see. But it is still not a butterfly.
After the caterpillar grows big, it makes a cover to protect itself. It stays inside this soft cover and goes to sleep. We call it the “pupa” stage(“成蛹”阶段).
After some days, the cover breaks open. A wet and weak(脆弱的) butterfly comes out. It has six legs, a mouth, eyes and wings. Soon, the wings become dry and strong. The beautiful butterfly spreads(伸展) its wings and flies away. A few weeks later, this butterfly lays its eggs, and the life cycle starts again.

Goshawks (苍鹰) are one of the UK’s most difficult-to-see birds. However, they are thriving (繁荣) once again in the New Forest, in the south of England.
People call the birds "phantoms (幽灵) of the forest". They nearly disappeared in the UK. Forests are home to goshawks, but people cut down too many trees so they lost their home.
In 2002, a pair of goshawks made their nest (巢) in the New Forest for the first time in more than 120 years. Since then, a team of scientists has been closely watching the goshawks. The team looks after around 1,500 forests and woodlands. The team says that the New Forest is now a good place for goshawks to live in. Later, they found 45 goshawk pairs. Scientists used a camera to watch one pair with three babies. They found that the birds ate different foods, such as squirrels, small birds, and other small animals. They also found how the father bird protected his babies from the hot sun by using his big wings.
The goshawk is at the top of the food chain (食物链). Usually, other animals don’t attack (袭击) them. Because of this, these birds tell us a lot about the health of this forest and the situation of wild animals in it.

六、范文
Many kinds of plants and animals are in danger now. We should try our best to protect them.
More and more plants and animals are dying out because they lose their living places or can't find enough food. People cut down trees or kill animals to make money. Some factories pollute the rivers and lakes. That's the reason why plants and animals are in danger.
I think we should do something now. We should plant more trees, stop killing animals and ask some factories not to pollute water to provide a better environment for them.
