Text 3
The Chinese zodiac is more than a way to mark years. It is a cultural language that helps people talk about time, wishes and personal qualities. Each animal sign carries a symbolic meaning. For example, Ox reminds people of hard work, Rabbit of carefulness, and Dog of trustiness. These meanings are easy to remember because they come from long-time observation of animals and daily life.
In daily communication, zodiac signs can make a conversation warmer. When people ask about someone's animal sign, they are often trying to start a friendly talk rather than asking age directly. Of course, the question should be asked politely, especially when people do not know each other well. A smile and a short explanation can make the talk comfortable.
Zodiac culture is also useful in creative activities. Young people may draw animal signs, make paper-cuts, design postcards or tell legends in English. These tasks help them put culture into practice. When a student explains why Dragon is a symbol of strength and good wishes, the listener learns both a word and a cultural idea. In this way, traditional culture can enter modern study, community service and even future tourism work.
31. What does Ox remind people of?
A. Changeability.
B. Carefulness.
C. Peace.
D. Hard work.
32. Why may people ask about someone's animal sign?
A. To sell postcards.
B. To start a friendly talk.
C. To decide a test score.
D. To stop a meeting.
33. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The symbolic meanings.
B. The animal pictures.
C. The creative tasks.
D. The tourism workers.
34. Which creative activity is mentioned in the passage?
A. Repairing machines.
B. Taking a bus.
C. Making paper-cuts.
D. Planting rice.
35. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To ask people to remember every animal story.
B. To compare all calendars in the world.
C. To tell students not to ask questions.
D. To explain the meanings and uses of zodiac culture.
【答案】31. D 32. B 33. A 34. C 35. D

C. Peace.
