Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure. This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
We must not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Failure can’t be avoided in our life. Edison failed 10, 000 times before he invented the light bulb (灯泡). When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn’t failed 10, 000 times but had learned 10, 000 things which didn’t work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.
Losing is not very disgraceful. We must accept our failure and learn to take advantage of it. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we’ll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others work out problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistakes in the future.
We should face our failure when we lose. There is only one winner in every competition. Some win, while some lose. That is a usual way of life. If we offer our congratulations to the winners and share in their happiness, we won’t feel sorry for our failure.
In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the start, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.
25. In the writer’s eyes, why did Edison achieve success?
A. He got help from others. B. He happened to make it.
C. He avoided possible mistakes. D. He saw the bright side of losing.
26. What does the underlined word “disgraceful” most probably mean?
A. Terrible. B. Personal. C. Dangerous. D. Interesting.
27. What does the writer advise the losers to do in a competition?
A. Share in the winners’ enjoyment. B. Express the regret to others.
C. Join in another competition. D. Set good examples to others.
28. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Ideas about How to Avoid Mistakes
B. Experience in Dealing with Problems
C. Advice on How to Be a Good Loser
D. Advantages of Both Success and Failure
C
①A lot of people take up dancing as a hobby in their free time. In fact, many people have found that dancing can make them feel better both physically and mentally. Why is dancing so helpful?
②When we dance, we move our bodies to different kinds of music. This movement helps our bodies produce more endorphins, a chemical that makes us feel relaxed and happy. It’s like our body’s own “feel-good” medicine.
③Dancing is a mix of music and sports. While simply listening to music or doing sports can cheer us up, mixing them together gives better results. In a study, a group of German scientists carefully chose a number of patients with different levels of depression (沮丧). They tested these patients under three conditions: a group dancing with music, a group just listening to music, and a group riding bikes without music. The results showed that the first group was the least depressed.
④Dancing can bring people together, too. Tango, Latin dance or other social dancing requires us to move with others, which can improve our sense of social connection, according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific foundation.
⑤Studies have found that depression often has to do with sadness about the past or worry about the future. However, dancing helps you focus on the present, connect with your body and free your mind for a while. In this way, it helps us forget bad feelings.
⑥Lauren Helper, a social worker in the US, said that dancing can be any form. You can dance at home when you listen to your favorite song, or you can go out and dance with friends. The most important thing is to have fun no matter who you are. Dancing is a wonderful way to improve your feelings and live a happier life.
29. How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraph 3?
A. By introducing the history of dancing.
B. By giving examples of different dance styles.
C. By presenting the results of a scientific study.
D. By comparing different types of music used in dancing.
30. Which would be the best structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
31. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce different types of dances.
B. To encourage people to join dance classes.
C. To explain why dancing makes people feel better.
D. To share the results of a scientific study on dancing.
32. Which of the following is Lauren Helper’s opinion?
A. People dancing at home can get the best results.
B. Only professional dancers can enjoy the benefits of dancing.
C. Dancing can’t help people who have serious mental problems
D. Dancing in any form can be a good way to make people feel better.

Have you ever watched the famous Disney movie Tangled (《魔发奇缘》), which tells the story of Princess Rapunzel with long hair? Elsie Kennedy, 14, from Australia loved Princess Rapunzel very much, so she grew her hair down to her waist from childhood. However, her reason for keeping her long hair has changed recently. She decided to give it away to make a wig (假发) for a child with cancer (癌症) .
She got her haircut at her school, the Scone Grammar School, in 2024. She later gave away her hair to Wigs 4 Kids, a program run by Kids with Cancer Foundation in Australia.
“I’ve never had a real haircut. My first haircut was when I was 7, and it was just a small trim (修剪),” Elsie said. “I’m excited to get a new look, but I’m also very happy that my hair will go to a good cause.” What’s more, Elsie tried to raise money for other kids with cancer. To do that, she asked her school for help to get the money and let more students know about the Kids with Cancer program. That was the reason why she had her hair cut at the school.
Students were then encouraged to wear purple or donate some money to show support. Elsie chose the color purple as the theme because it was Rapunzel’s color. She always wears a beautiful long purple dress in the film Tangled.
Aiming to raise 14,000, she had reached just over 10,000 by January 2025. “Knowing that my fundraising (筹集资金) will help kids and families go through a really hard time is amazing,” Elsie said.
33. Why did the writer mention the Disney movie Tangled in the first paragraph?
A. To compare Elsie with Princess Rapunzel.
B. To introduce a famous movie to the readers.
C. To explain why Elsie started to grow long hair.
D. To show the popularity of the movie among teenagers.
34. What is Elsie like according to the passage?
A. Shy and quiet B. Kind-hearted and helpful.
C. Talented and proud. D. Hard-working and clever.
35. Why did Elsie cut her hair at the school?
A. Because her school asked students to have short hair
B. Because she wanted more students to notice her new look.
C. Because her school provided cheaper hair cutting service.
D. Because she wanted to raise money for kids with cancer.
36. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. Elsie’s Love for Tangled B. The Magic of Rapunzel’s Hair
C. Wigs 4 Kids: A Great Program D. A Special Haircut with a Big Heart

When we get old, we may forget many things from the past ____37____
Sarah Sauve, a music scientist at the University of Lincoln in the UK, did a study on this. She invited 121 people to take part in it. They were between 18 and 86 years old. Sarah first asked them to listen to three musical clips (片段). ____38____ They needed to make a note whenever they heard the music.
To her surprise, the older people were just as good at remembering the clips as the younger ones were. “This shows our musical memory doesn’t change as we grow old. Other parts of the brain also work to keep this ‘important’ information. So our memory of the music can last for a long time,” Sarah says. ____39____ Doctors may use this to treat illnesses that hurt people’s memory. Music may help these people remember things.
____40____ As we all know, music has the power to make us excited or relaxed. Experts believe music can make people, even babies, more creative, smarter and happier. Now, we may find ourselves in a convenient world of words. We use cellphones to send lots of messages every day. Then the problem appears. Sometimes, when we pick up a pen to write a word, we perhaps forget how to write it. As Chinese, we shouldn’t forget Chinese words and the beauty of Chinese calligraphy (书法).
China has a rich history of calligraphy. Chinese calligraphy is an important treasure because it has been a way of the expression of Chinese culture. Calligraphy came out over 3,000 years ago. The earliest examples are Jiaguwen in the Shang Dynasty. Then the picture-like characters gradually developed into Zhuanshu in the Qin Dynasty. During the Han Dynasty, Lishu began to be widely used. This started a new age in the history of Chinese calligraphy. Kaishu was first used in the late Han Dynasty, before becoming a standard style for official records and other formal written works in the Tang Dynasty. Caoshu also appeared in the Han Dynasty. It was hard to read. Xingshu appeared at the end of the Han Dynasty. It was written faster and more freely than kaishu. As a result, it was considered to be the most popular form of handwriting.
Calligraphy masters have created plenty of masterpieces, which have been passed from generation to generation. They express their feelings and thoughts through the changes of strokes and the arrangement of characters, showing special beauty. They have inspired (鼓舞) Chinese people to the learning of calligraphy.
Wang Xizhi is known as “Shusheng”. He lived during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. He learnt different styles to create his own style. It is shown in his masterpiece The Orchid Pavilion Preface (《兰亭集序》), which is praised as the “First Calligraphy in the World”. Many calligraphy learners regard it as important learning material.
Chinese calligraphy has also spread to other countries. Now in Europe and America, more and more schools and universities are offering Chinese calligraphy classes. It is not just about practicing handwriting; it is more about connecting with a traditional Chinese art form.
Where there is Chinese language, there is Chinese calligraphy, and where there is calligraphy, there is beauty. It is of high artistic and historical value, for it is more than just writing; it is a living heritage.

【答案】33. C 34. B 35. D 36. D

When we listen to music, the amygdala (杏仁体) in our brain ‘lights up’. This makes our brain think of music as something important.
Some experts suggest playing slow music to help us pay attention when we study. It’s said music can also improve listening skills and language abilities.
A. In her eyes, the result is useful.
B. Then, she told them to go to a concert.

四、阅读与表答 (共4小题, 第61~63题, 每小题2分; 第64小题4分; 满分10分)
阅读短文, 然后根据内容回答问题。

Let’s join together to say no to waste! Thank you!
【答案】例文:
Dear fellow students,
The problem of wasting food has recently attracted people’s attention. As we all know, food is precious, and wasting it not only harms our environment but also goes against our traditional virtue of thrift.
Firstly, we should stop wasting food because millions of people worldwide still suffer from hunger. By reducing waste, we can fight against food shortage and make a difference to those in need. Secondly, food production consumes vast resources like water and energy. Wasting food means wasting these valuable resources.
To join the Empty Plate Campaign, here’s what we can do:
1. Order or take only what we can eat up.
2. Ask for smaller portions if necessary.
3. Share extra food with others instead of throwing it away.
