Passage 1
My cousin Andrew is crazy about DIY. He loves to make or repair things around his house by himself. However, he is not a born handyman!
Once, he tried to put in a brighter light in his bedroom, but he made a mistake, and his whole house had a power cut. Another time, he wanted to put up a picture on the wall, but he hit a water pipe (管道) and the room was filled with water.
Andrew thought he was just unlucky. He didn’t stop trying to fix things on his own. Instead, he bought many books about DIY and took an online DIY course as well. Now he knows his way around all kinds of DIY.
One day, he found my room in a mess, with books all over my bed. “You’d better have a shelf for them,” he said. Then he got some boards and soon made a shelf for me. Now my room looks great, and it is easy for me to find my books!
Last Saturday, I visited his home. A floor lamp there caught my eyes. It looked so cool! I was surprised to know that he made it himself!
My cousin enjoys DIY, and now no DIY job seems impossible to him. He thinks DIY is a good way to have fun and save money.

Passage 2
Last Sunday was Mom’s 40th birthday. I wanted to give her a special gift, not a store bought one. Dad suggested a necklace (项链), but I said, “No—I’ll make it myself. It has more love.” So I decided to make a photo frame (相框) with our family photo from last summer.
I found materials at home: thin wood from the garage (Dad used it for a shelf), white glue, colorful paper, scissors, markers, and rose stickers—Mom loves roses.
At first, I tried cutting the wood into a 20cm square with small scissors, but it slipped. I got angry, then remembered Mom’s words: “Be more patient.” I asked Dad for a small saw. He taught me to use it safely, and we cut the square. I sanded the edges (边缘), so Mom wouldn’t hurt her hands.
Then I decorated it: I glued colorful paper on the frame, drew small flowers with markers, stuck rose stickers on the corners, and wrote “I love you, Mom!” in big letters. I also learned to fold three paper hearts and glued them on. It took two hours—my hands were sticky, but I didn’t care.
When Mom came home, I gave her the frame. She held it, looked for a long time, then cried happy tears. She hugged me tight: “This is the most beautiful gift! I’ll put it on my desk.” Later, she sent a photo of it to Grandma.
DIY gifts aren’t easy—you make mistakes and spend time, but they’re special because of your heart. Try one for your family’s birthday; it just needs to show care. I’m already thinking about Dad’s birthday gift now!

Some parents think children should play a lot in their childhood. However, some parents think children should learn more useful things. They teach their children to do chores by themselves early. What are chores? Chores are things we need to do every day, like washing the dishes and sweeping the floor. Here are some advantages that helping out with chores will bring to children.
First, doing chores teaches children life skills. Children will need to do many hard things by themselves one day, so they should learn more life skills as early as possible. Doing chores like cooking, feeding pets and cleaning the house can help them become more independent and teach them how to solve problems by themselves.
Second, doing chores helps children learn to respect others. If children are asked to clean up the house, they may know better about the mess they make. And they will respect others’ work more.
Third, doing chores helps children be better at making plans and organizing their time. There are a lot of things to do every day, and it’s hard to fit them all in. Children need to do their homework, do housework and make friends. Learning to do these well helps them know what the most important thing is and how to organize their time well.

A.By asking questions. B.By comparing ideas.

15.What does the writer want to tell us?
A.To teach children how to do chores.
B.To show why kids should respect others.
C.To teach parents how to make plans for kids.
D.To show parents how chores are beneficial to kids.

Passage 3
