Orion Jean, a young boy in the United States, has a big goal. He wants to spread kindness to as many people as he can.
It all started in August 2020. Jean received $500 in prize money after winning the U. S. National Kindness Speech Contest. He could have spent the money on Legos, but he quickly realized that it was not enough to just talk about being kind. The boy set up the “Race to Kindness” project.
Jean started off by helping children in the hospital. Because of the pandemic, these children were unable to see their family members very often. Jean wanted to bring smiles to their faces. He used his money to buy as many toys as he could while calling on people to do the same. In only a month, he had collected 619 toys. The boy sent them to a local children’s hospital. “It’s one of the best experiences of my life,” he said at the time.
Not long after, in October 2020, Jean set the ambitious goal of donating 100,000 free Thanksgiving meals to poor families. With the help of a local charity, he was able to not only reach his goal but to go beyond it.
As a book lover, Jean knows how reading can change a person’s life. After he discovered that two out of three kids from poor families had no books of their own, the boy decided to collect 500,000 books for them. Will he take a break after this? “Who knows? Maybe we’ll do something even bigger,” Jean says. “Maybe we’ll do a ‘race’ to a million.”

Xunpu is a small fishing village in Fujian Province. Last year, a few ladies took pictures there and shared them online. In the photos, their hair was tied into buns (圆发髻), and they wore a wreath (花冠). There were fresh, plastic and silk flowers on the wreath. It is called Zanhuawei. The tradition is also seen at happy events such as weddings. The locals send out invitation cards along with flowers. In turn, their female guests wear the flowers to the events.

Shennongjia, a large forested area in Hubei Province, China, is very famous for its rich biodiversity (生物多样性) and one of China’s most lasting natural mysteries— the legend of “wild men”. For centuries, locals and explorers have reported sightings of tall, hairy human-like creatures living deep in the woods.
These reports share common details: the “wild men” are said to be over two meters tall, covered in thick fur, and able to move quickly through the forests. Some witnesses (目击者) say have seen them eating plants or fruits, while others say they heard strange roars (咆哮) in the distance. Ancient books even mention similar creatures, adding to the mystery’s depth.
What makes the legend intriguing (令人感兴趣的) is that it is short of decisive evidence (证据) . Despite (尽管) decades of searches, no one has found a living “wild man” or decisive evidence like bones or hair samples. Some scientists suggest the sightings might be misidentifications (误认) of bears or monkeys, while others believe they could be a yet-undiscovered primate (灵长目动物) species.
The thick forests of Shennongjia make exploration challenging. Tall trees, thick underbrush, and far locations hide many secrets. Even with modern technology, researchers struggle to cover every corner of the large area.
Today, Shennongjia’s “wild men” remain a mystery that attracts curious minds. Whether they are real creatures or just myths, they remind us of nature’s endless wonders and the many things we have yet to discover about our planet.
68. What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A. The “wild men” can move quickly through forests.
B. Ancient books mention creatures like the “wild men”
C. The “wild men” in Shennongjia are over two meters tall.
D. Witnesses have described the “wild men” with similar details.
69. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The witnesses. B. The scientists.
C. The “wild men”. D. The bones and hair samples.
70. Why is it hard to explore Shennongjia’s “wild men”?
A. No one has ever reported seeing them. B. Scientists are not interested in the legend.
C. The forest environment is too thick and far. D. The “wild men” are too small to be noticed.
71. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Shennongjia’s natural environment is rich and complex.
B. Researchers have fully explored every part of Shennongjia.
C. Ancient books provide decisive evidence of the “wild men”.
D. The “wild men” in Shennongjia have been proven (证明) to be bears.
72. What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

A. The “wild men” can move quickly through forests.
