(本题10分)In Malawi, a poor African country, a 19-year-old student Ernest Andrew, a native of Chinguwo Village, is making waves with his creative solution to the country’s energy challenges. He has drawn the attention of the world with his groundbreaking generation of electricity from an air-powered generator (发电机).
After seeing the struggles his community faced because they didn’t have enough electricity, Ernest knew he had to do something. He believed that with a bit of creativity and hard work, he could make a difference.
Armed with waste materials and a strong passion for invention, Ernest spent months experimenting in his simple workshop. Through trial and error, he improved his design, finally creating a model which was beyond expectation.
Ernest’s self-made air-powered generator, made from repurposed and old parts and locally sourced materials, operates on a very simple principle (原理). Pressed air is channeled through a series of turbines (涡轮) and generators, producing clean and renewable energy with little environmental impact.
Since displaying his invention, Ernest has become a local hero in Chinguwo Village, with his air-powered generator providing a lifeline to the community as far as electricity is concerned. Nine homes in his village are now lit up around the clock, which has left his villagers amazed and expecting that his invention could benefit them all. He hopes to make his invention reach even more communities in need across Malawi and beyond, with the support of local authorities and international organizations.
“Electricity is a basic necessity. My goal is to empower as many people as possible with clean and renewable energy,” Ernest stressed.
Ernest’s impressive story serves as an inspiration to other inventors around the world, proving that there is no age limit to having a meaningful effect. With strong determination and limitless creativity, Ernest has begun a transformation in energy generation that promises to shine for generations to come.

(本题10分)Every year, over 14 million tons of plastic waste end up in the world’s oceans, according to the UN Environment Programme. This waste kills millions of marine animals each year, pollutes fragile coastal ecosystems, and breaks down into microplastics that enter the food chain and reach the human body. Most of this plastic comes from single-use packaging, designed for days of use but able to persist in oceans for hundreds of years. Now, scientists and startups worldwide are turning to an unlikely solution to this global crisis: fungi.
At the heart of this innovation is mycelium (菌丝体), the root-like structure of fungi. Made of tiny thread-like filaments, mycelium grows by feeding on organic matter, binding into a strong, flexible, fully biodegradable material. To make fungal packaging, manufacturers use agricultural waste (wheat straw, rice husks, sawdust) as a growth medium, mix it with mycelium spores, place it into molds, and let it grow in a controlled environment for 5-7 days. It is then heat-treated to stop growth, forming a lightweight, durable packaging made without harmful chemicals, high temperatures or massive energy input.
Unlike plastic that never fully breaks down, fungal packaging is 100% biodegradable. It decomposes in soil in 30 days, and most importantly, fully breaks down in seawater within 3-6 months, leaving no microplastics or toxic residues. This makes it an ideal replacement for plastic packaging used to transport seafood, cosmetics and electronics, major contributors to marine plastic pollution.
Major companies worldwide are adopting the technology. A Dutch startup FungiPack uses it for seafood shipping, while Chinese firm MycoGreen produces it for electronics, reporting a 70% reduction in carbon emissions compared to plastic production. It still faces challenges: higher cost than mass-produced plastic, and poor water resistance. But with ongoing optimization, it will soon become a viable alternative to most ocean-bound plastic.
“Plastic was a miracle invention, but we forgot to design materials for the end of their life,” says Dr. Jane Zhao, a Tsinghua University materials scientist. “Mycelium works with nature, not against it. That’s the future of sustainable packaging.”
28.(2.5分)What is the biggest advantage of fungal packaging over traditional plastic?
A.It is cheaper to mass-produce. B.It can be reused many times.
C.It can fully degrade in seawater. D.It has a longer service life in wet areas.
29.(2.5分)What can we infer about the production of fungal packaging?
A.It has a lower carbon footprint than plastic.
B.It depends on high-quality farmland.
C.It requires a lot of fresh water and heat.
D.It is more complex than plastic production.
30.(2.5分)What does the underlined word “viable” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Rare and valuable. B.Cheap and abundant.
C.Complex and advanced. D.Practical and functional.
31.(2.5分)What is Dr. Zhao’s attitude towards mycelium packaging technology?
A.Neutral. B.Doubtful. C.Critical. D.Optimistic.
(本题10分)Superhighways of vessels (血管) beneath our skin transport blood and nutrients. These natural pathways expand like tree branches to help our body move food and oxygen to our organs. While our bodies naturally produce vessels, bioengineers are now crafting them in labs, using an unexpected material: ice.
The idea was inspired by the ice magic in the Disney movie Frozen, says Burak Ozdoganlar, a mechanical engineer at Carnegie Mellon University, “Frozen’s ice queen commands ice and snow — maybe we can too.” To make the vessels, the engineer first needed a template (模板) to build the tissue. “Originally, we were trying to do this with wax (蜡),” Ozdoganlar says. “But wax proved too soft. And it’s not necessarily biocompatible, or suitable for use in the body.” Then they thought of Elsa’s magic. Ice seemed like a good alternative for many reasons. It costs little and is readily available. And most importantly, since it’s nonpoisonous, the body won’t reject it.
Printing the ice template is simple. Engineers program the desired shape into a 3-D printer, which then drops water onto a -35℃ surface to freeze it instantly. This process is repeated until the vessel’s shape is complete. Overall, it takes less than 30 seconds. Then the template is wrapped in gelatin, which becomes solid under ultraviolet light as the ice melts, leaving behind realistic-looking blood channels.
The team has tested the channels with lining cells of blood vessels. Those cells survived for two weeks, a promising sign for future transplantation into humans. The new vessels might be tested with a drug being developed for use in people. Such tests could show how your body might react to the drug. “This is really a game-changer,” says Ozdoganlar.
“The new research is quite interesting and exciting,” says Warren Grayson, a biomedical engineer at Johns Hopkins University. “But it also has limitations. You can see that all these structures are pretty small. Their size is limited by the need for extreme cold. Larger structures would not stay cold enough due to heat transfer. This method may not transform the tissue engineering field, but it does provide another perspective for creating structures.”
32.(2.5分)What key advantage does ice offer over wax for the engineers’ project?
A.It’s cost-effective. B.It’s harmless to our body.
C.It’s easy to obtain. D.It’s environmentally friendly.
33.(2.5分)What happens to the ice template during the process of vessel making?
A.It solidifies the encasing gelatin. B.It is reshaped after its completion.
C.It becomes a part of the final vessel. D.It melts away with the channels remaining.
34.(2.5分)What does Warren Grayson think of the ice-vessel approach?
A.It marks a dramatic change. B.It provides a new outlook.
C.It serves as a practical solution. D.It represents a notable innovation.

Gabriel had always been fascinated by robots. His mother, however, did not think much of it. She often criticized him, urging him to focus on his schoolwork instead of those“ useless machines”, as she called them. She wanted him to spend more time on his books, and less time lost in the world of robotics. He, however, always worked quietly on parts, trying to create inventions that could solve everyday problems.
One day, Gabriel came back from school, bursting through the front door, holding a shining award in his hand. The gas detection robot he had built for months had just won first place in the regional competition. His heart raced as he imagined his mother would be proud this time.
“Mom! Look! I won!” he cried. His mother, standing at the kitchen counter, looked briefly. She sighed, “That’s nice, Gabriel, but I still don’t see what good it will do you. It’s not going to help you with your grades or get you into college. You need to focus on something more practical.” Her voice showed no interest. Gabriel remained quiet, determined to prove that what he was doing had value.
One evening, as the delicious smell of dinner floated through the house, an unexpected danger was quietly closing. Gabriel’s mother had been busy in the kitchen but had forgotten to turn off the gas. Unaware of the coming threat, she had wandered into the living room, settling down comfortably in front of the TV. The gas continued to escape, silently filling the air. The house was on the edge of a disaster.

35.(2.5分)Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

The debate kicked off with two teams presenting their arguments. The pro side emphasized that AI enhances learning efficiency and provides convenient solutions for study. 六、书面表达
67.(本题25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】Suddenly, a loud alarm rang through the house. Gabriel’s gas detection robot had sensed the leak and sprung into action. The shrill sound jolted his mother from her TV reverie, her heart pounding as she realized the danger they were in. Quickly, she rushed to the kitchen, turned off the gas, and opened all the windows to let the fresh air disperse the dangerous fumes. As the alarm ceased, she stood there, breathing a sigh of relief, suddenly understanding the significance of Gabriel’s invention. It wasn’t just a toy or a useless machine; it was a lifesaver.
Gabriel’s mother held the robot gently in her arms, waiting for Gabriel to get back from school. She couldn’t wait to tell him how his creation had prevented a potential tragedy. When Gabriel finally walked through the door, his mother greeted him with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. “Gabriel, you were right,” she said, hugging him tightly. “This robot isn’t just a hobby; it’s something that can protect us, make our lives safer. I’m sorry I didn’t see it before.” Gabriel’s heart swelled with pride and joy. From that day on, his mother became his biggest supporter, encouraging him to pursue his passion for robotics and recognizing the value of his inventions in making the world a better, safer place.
