How does our memory work? In fact, our brain has two different kinds of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory.

Short-term memory helps us remember information for a short time. For example, when you look up a phone number and dial it right away, you use your short-term memory. It can only hold a small amount of information, and it will disappear quickly if you don't repeat it.

Long-term memory stores information for a long time, even for the whole life. When you remember a poem you learned in primary school, or the way to your grandma's home, that is long-term memory at work.

Is it possible to turn short-term memory into long-term memory? Yes. The key is repetition and understanding. If you review new knowledge in time and understand it well, the information will slowly move into your long-term memory.

Last month, Zhang Lin got an A in the English vocabulary test. She finally realized that good memory does not depend on hard work alone. Scientific methods make memorizing much easier and more lasting.
