Dear Editor,
I live in a beautiful community with a large park. Many families visit the park on weekends. There are many lovely squirrels here.
The squirrels mostly live in the trees around the central square. Visitors often feed them snacks like chips and cookies. However, they don’t realize that these foods are harmful to the squirrels’ health. Some squirrels have become sick; a few have even died after eating the wrong food. I am sure most visitors really like these animals, but they don’t realize they may be harming them. The behaviour of feeding unsuitable food must be stopped.
Perhaps we can set up small stations near the park to sell proper squirrel food. For every one of us, it is our duty to care for these lovely creatures and protect their well-being.
Yours,
Liu Yang

Do you find yourself more productive in the morning or at night? Recent studies suggest that our biological clocks greatly influence our daily performance. Understanding your own rhythm can help you schedule tasks more effectively.
Most people reach peak alertness late in the morning. This is because body temperature gradually rises throughout the day. Taking a cool shower in the morning may slow this process, while a warm shower can help speed it up.
“Morning larks” wake up early and perform best in the early hours. “Night owls” work better later in the day, often peaking in the evening. Research indicates that physical performance is strongest between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., making late afternoon ideal for sports and exercise.
Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., many people experience a “post-lunch dip” in attention. This natural decline in alertness explains why some cultures embrace an afternoon rest. Studies confirm that our brains become less sharp after a heavy meal.
Finally, experts recommend eating meals during active periods. This allows the body to process calories more efficiently and helps maintain stable blood sugar levels.
11. What can tell us the best time of day for our performance?
A. Our morning routine B. Our shower temperature
C. Our body temperature D. Our biological clock
12. “Morning larks” tend to _______.
A. work better in the late evening B. work better early in the day
C. sleep late every night D. only work in the afternoon
13. When is physical performance at its best?
A. Between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. B. Between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
C. Between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. D. Between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.
14. Why is it better to eat when we are active?
A. Because our brain works faster then B. Because our body burns calories more efficiently
C. Because we feel hungrier then D. Because blood sugar levels drop
15. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to improve work efficiency B. The best time to exercise
C. The influence of biological rhythms D. How to stay healthy

Have you ever noticed the length of your phone number? In China, mobile phone numbers have 11 digits. 1 ______ China has one of the longest mobile phone number systems in the world. The 11 digits can be divided into three sections. 2 ______ The first three digits indicate the mobile service provider — for example, 130 is for China Unicom, while 189 is for China Telecom. The fourth through seventh digits show the registration region. The last four digits are randomly assigned.
The primary reason for using 11 digits is China’s enormous population. 3 ______ However, as the population grew, the existing 10-digit numbers proved insufficient. 4 ______ Eleven digits can generate tens of billions of possible combinations, enough for every citizen to have multiple numbers. Moreover, numbers can be recycled after being cancelled.
Typically, a cancelled number is reassigned after three to six months. 六、书面表达(参考范文)
My views on watching TV
TV offers a wide variety of programmes, including news, documentaries, talk shows, and sports events. People of all ages enjoy watching TV for different reasons.
On the positive side, watching TV helps us relax after a long day. It also keeps us informed about current events and broadens our knowledge. However, there are also drawbacks. Spending too much time in front of the screen can damage our eyes and waste valuable time that could be spent on more productive activities.
In my opinion, we should watch TV in moderation. Choose educational and meaningful programmes, and set a time limit. By doing so, we can enjoy the benefits of TV without letting it take over our lives.
