A Bamboo Craftsman's Lesson
During a rural service trip in Hechi, several vocational students visited a bamboo workshop. The workshop was small, but baskets, chairs and lamps were placed neatly along the wall. An old craftsman welcomed the students and showed them how to cut bamboo into thin pieces. He also explained that each piece should be smooth before weaving began.
At first, many students thought the work looked easy. After trying for ten minutes, they found their fingers moved too slowly. Some pieces were uneven, and one basket almost broke. The craftsman smiled and said, “A good product needs patient hands. If you hurry only for speed, the bamboo will tell the truth.” His words made the students quiet.
In the afternoon, the craftsman told them that he had taught young people for more than twenty years. He did not want the skill to disappear. A student named Wei Hao asked why he still worked every day at his age. The craftsman answered, “Because every useful skill can serve life.” Wei Hao wrote this sentence in his notebook. After returning home, he practised more carefully in his training room. He also understood that a role model may not speak loudly, but his work can teach a lasting lesson.
26. Where did the students visit during the trip?
A. A fruit market.
B. A bamboo workshop.
C. A city hospital.
D. A railway station.
27. What did students find after trying the work?
A. The baskets were too cheap.
B. The chairs were too high.
C. The workshop was closed.
D. Their fingers moved too slowly.
28. What does the sentence “the bamboo will tell the truth” mean?
A. Careless work can be seen in the product.
B. Bamboo can speak to workers.
C. Fast work is always the best.
D. Truth is not important in skills.
29. Why did the craftsman teach young people for years?
A. To sell more lamps online.
B. To travel with students.
C. To keep the skill alive.
D. To make the workshop larger.
30. What can we learn from the passage?
A. A quiet worker can also be a role model.
B. Students should avoid handwork.
C. Old workshops are always unsafe.
D. Bamboo skills need no practice.
【答案】26. B 27. D 28. A 29. C 30. A

Why Young People Need Role Models
Young people often ask what kind of person they should become. A role model can give them a living answer. Unlike a rule written on paper, a real example shows how values work in daily choices, difficult tasks and service to others. When students see such examples again and again, they can understand responsibility in a concrete way. This is useful for vocational students, because they need to connect classroom learning with future work.
Role models help in three ways. First, they give direction. When students read about a scientist who keeps trying after many failures, they may understand that success needs patience. Second, they build confidence. If a skilled worker from an ordinary family can become excellent through practice, a student may believe that effort can change his or her future. Third, they connect personal dreams with social needs. A student who likes machines may decide to repair farming tools. This connection is important because a dream becomes more meaningful when it can solve problems for other people.
However, choosing a role model also needs thinking. Young people should not admire someone only for fame or money. They should look at actions, qualities and long-term contributions. A good role model may be a famous doctor, but it may also be a bus driver who keeps passengers safe every day. Teachers can guide students to ask simple questions: What problem did the person solve? What quality did the person show? What can I do now? The best way to respect a role model is not to copy everything, but to learn the spirit behind the actions and use it in one's own life.
31. What does the underlined word “values” mean in Paragraph 1?
A. Prices of things.
B. Places for work.
C. Ideas about what is important and right.
D. Names of different jobs.
32. How many ways do role models help young people according to Paragraph 2?
A. Two.
B. Three.
C. Four.
D. Five.
33. What may students understand from a scientist who keeps trying?
A. Success needs patience.
B. Fame is the most important.
C. Rules are useless.
D. Money changes everything.
34. What should young people look at when choosing a role model?
A. Only money and fame.
B. Actions, qualities and long-term contributions.
C. Clothes and hobbies.
D. The number of online fans.
35. What is the best way to respect a role model?
A. Copy everything the model does.
B. Only collect photos of the model.
C. Learn the spirit and use it in one's own life.
D. Talk about the model without action.
【答案】31. C 32. B 33. A 34. B 35. C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,围绕榜样主题展开,重点考查学生细节定位、语义理解、简单推断和主旨概括能力。
【详解】31. 词义猜测题。根据“daily choices, difficult tasks and service to others”可知,values指关于重要与正确之事的观念。
【详解】32. 细节理解题。第二段明确写道“Role models help in three ways.”,随后用First、Second、Third分述三点。
【详解】33. 细节理解题。根据“they may understand that success needs patience”可知,学生可理解成功需要耐心。
【详解】34. 细节理解题。根据“They should look at actions, qualities and long-term contributions.”可知,应关注行动、品质和长期贡献。
【详解】35. 细节理解题。根据末句可知,尊重榜样最好的方式是学习行动背后的精神并用于自己的生活。

B. Places for work.
